  1. I'm a linux engineer so I'm biased, but have you guys ever tried Fedora ? Its one of the best distros out there and has come a long way from when I first started using Slackware back in the late 90's I dualboot F10 and XP on my asus EEE. the F10 is so much faster, so I use it whenever I don't need to - sadly some things only come with windows drivers so it doesnt have the same level of support as windows, but for a lot of folks its at the stage where they can use it. And its FREE. And if you don't like unix-like operating systems, there is always the Haiku OS It's based on BeOS which was a serious player in the multimedia section up until Be Inc folded late 2001 after a disasterous focus shift to 'Internet Appliances' (basically cloud computing and lightweight hardware - they were 8 years too early unfortunately). Haiku is built from the ground up, is pervasively multithreaded, object oriented and open source (and hence Free). It has the ease of use of MacOS but at this stage is still declared 'alpha' quality but only because the code hasn't been tested on all hardware. So far its pretty much rock solid in everything it does, and very very lean on resources. I remember when BeOS came out and they had p2-400's and voodoo2 videocards... one of the early demos was to run an openGL cube and superimpose a unique movie file on each face while the cube was rotating... it used I think around 20% cpu due to the super efficient way BeOS deals with media streams...it was way ahead of its time, and while Haiku is a replication of this technology and so doesn't have many 'modern' features, I'm confident the 2nd release of Haiku will be world class. Try it out, even if only on a VMware console and give it a go. -D
  2. Heh Designer label bird poop on your front bar ruby, does it help the stag fly? -D
  3. Spotted white r32 GTR with aftermarket BOV in Broadview today... was that u cronic? -D
  4. Cool. I think if you're going to tell people to ignore others, then perhaps you should start with SLED. After all, he replied, and he is a mod, is he not? I don't care if people don't follow my opinion, and I've never reported anyone, so thats a moot point. Back to business. -D
  5. Over policing doesn't work. Warn me if you like, but I don't agree with your 'pork chop' comment. The more you tighten your grip, the more falls from between your fingers -D
  6. Sleds way more popular than you, and does more for us than you care to. I suggest you head back to ns.com where you can enjoy your trolling with other like minded children -D
  7. Same diff. For you it works, but uploads should never be metered as part as an advertised 'download' policy, which they did for a fair while (until they had a nudge from the accc and changed their 'download policy' to 'acceptable usage policy' ala telstra. its a scummy approach, but there you have it - ISP's actually earn money from customer generated uploads, so unless adams had all of their upstream bandwidth saturated by p2p users, I really don't see why they would bother capping uploads. -D
  8. Easily. You might have to flash it with aftermarket firmware so u can amplify the signal strength. My WRT54G is only 802.11g as opposed to Draft N... N has 3 times the range even without modifying antennae or transmission strength I can get signal strength all over our 1/4 acre property and the WRT is in the dead centre. 802.11g is rated for up to 100 metres inside, 802.11n is rated for up to 300 metres inside. Outside the distances are longer since theres less stuff for the signal to bounce off and degrade (less noise, more signal, better SNR ratio) Also, it depends on the wireless hardware in your laptop/pc. Unless your laptop supports Draft N then you'll be stuck in 802.11g mode. (Back before 802.11g we used to use 5watt Senao cards - up to a kilometer in range if you had the right antennae). Just remember, omnidirecitonal antenna have a signal spread which resembles a donut. A small dead spot in the middle and then a circle around it where the signal is strongest. If you change antennae then you get a bigger/smaller fatter/thinner donut shape which can help in some scenarios but the current draft N/mino routers have their antennae internal - not sure if theres any benefit in modifying those antennae as they might be tuned to each other, relative to their frequency) If you get stuck, you can buy a stock 802.11g router and change one of the antenna to a directional yagi/cantenna/dish to focus it into a particular area, but in short, I think a stock linksyswrt600/610 should do u fine -D
  9. at those sorta speeds i'd suggest the car was stolen hes just driving it like its hot -D
  10. Thats just stupid. Haven't people ever heard of a docking station? Plug the laptop into a docking station, use a full size keyboard, monitor and mouse. Much better than having a behemoth like that. Oh and Adam ADSL charge your UPLOAD traffic as well. Tel$tra and other scummy internet companies do it to. Quite disappointing from Adam really. +1 for internode not charging upload quotas. -D
  11. Cant make it today Dudes. Car is getting some panelbeating done. Pls note my apologies. -D
  12. 40 gigs. Internode costs us around $60 per month for 40 gigs and thats on adsl2+. we dont pay for uploads like telstra clients do. Linksys WRT600, 610, 650. Good hardware -D
  13. Same. The only way I could get a house in this market is to borrow from my parents or become guarantors. Would love to know how you get offered half a mil -D
  14. Get an ASUS EEE 901 Go. 9" Screen, 4 hrs practical battery life (more if u run it with power saving) dual 1.6ghz clock, 1 gig of ram (upgradable to 2) and 12 gigs of storage on the XP model (which can be upgraded to a bigger & faster SSD). The GO model has inbuilt Next G modem so you can get a simcard and put it inside the laptop and get broadband that way. I got a standard 901 which uses my mobile phone for next G data (via bluetooth). It rocks -D
  15. Yeah Same! Got a mate keen as for a 31 wagon.. -D
  16. We dont need to. Thats what magistrates are for... Besides he shot a milkman in the eye dude, cant justify that anyhow -D
