  1. "According to SA Law for the charge of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving, Penalties for this offence are very harsh and even a first offence can carry a maximum sentence of 15 years imprisonment. If the offence is found to be an aggravated offence* it can carry a term of life imprisonment. The penalty for this offence will also involve a disqualification of at least 10 years, or possibly longer, if a court orders. Even where a death or serious harm is not caused to any person it is possible to receive a penalty of up to 5 years imprisonment and a disqualification of at least 1 year." from some website i just googled... -D
  2. lol when the driver aint having delusions of being ayrton senna -D
  3. further truth would be even to say that perhaps the next upgrade just would not be worth it for its purpose. how often does a daily need 300kw in any case? -D
  4. well this is what ive gathered from the nistune forums and a few other sources I'd be the first to admit I dont know what Im talking about, which is why imma spend the next 18 months figuring out what I want to do when the time comes - I want to do the brakes/rims/rubbers/suspension and interior over the next year and a bit - performance is not a concern atm that said, when it does become a priority, it would be good to know wtf is and wtf isnt. simply telling me that ive been fed rubbish isnt helpful tho. -D
  5. I'll get him to send you pics of his dump pipes. 3 inches wide in what I believe they call 'lobster tail style' with full depth welds tucked close to the body pan oh yeah, you best believe it. its the shiznit. -D
  6. a) 2860's can be ran at stock gtr boost without controller and have same epa results due to the similar trim and AR ratio - camgears are more of a concern b) you only need a tuned ecu when passing above stock boost so if u swap the ecu and remove the ebc then it all works as stock. c) you've missed my point. have you ever seen a nisstune? my guess is no, because its a tiny little chip which fits inside the stock ecu. you could remove the kick panel and see a nissan ecu housing. But hey, PFC owners have been housing PFC's inside nissan housings for the last decade, so who am i to judge.. d) hks buy garrett turbos and do their own aftermarket bolloks (allegedly) which supposedly gives u +20 kw and + 20% the cost e) Writeoff has an exhaust system that would make u cream ur gstring. Its unreal. He has the graphs, pm him direct for them. -D
  7. the 33n1s in the first graph are what I have - steel turbine in the stock 33 gtr housing. aka N1's (compared to spec and what not). No mention of difference in 2860 trims, esp in a parallel TT configuration - cant draw any conclusions -D
  8. Well, theres a certificate to make regency accept >any< 2860 series. Thats a fact. Nisstune - well, they'd have to A) be suspicious of the ecu and B) find the modification which would involve disassembly of the ECU. Oh, and I also have an unmolested ECU just in case ;D -5s are the shiznit it seems however - i thought the 7s were a bigger turbo - more power, more lag? writeoff has the SS kit and hes doing 340kw or so but thats HKS and not garret that said, in ur opinion, is HKS vs garrett a big deal? -D
  9. Not just any garrets Pete. Any 2860 series turbo, regardless of trim is legal according to the certification given out by MTQ and other turbo suppliers. You're ignoring the nisstune I already have which tbh might be technically illegal, but if regency can find and call it, I would be very surprised. Tbh the 2860 series nomenclature of their '-5 -7 -10' shits me off because its totally random. I havent done any research because I know u lads will set me upon the right path when the time comes. And that time won't come for at least 18 months. I have many other mods I need to do. I just want a legal set of turbos that give me max power at minimal turbo lag and maximum response. Not aiming for figures at all, however the more the merrier as the saying goes... The n1's are frigging great - but the exhaust turbine size holds them back, as does the sleeve bearing. Lets see what a set of street legal 2860's can do, regardless of trim! -D
  10. the skirts and front bar are getting removed for painting, ive already got the clips from nissan to keep them attached properly needs touch ups and a few mechanical things done but its getting there -D
  11. cross cranes? never seen em on thomas st? i know of cross keys paint n panel and road n track on thomas, and boostworx being the next st over... -D Edit - looked on google maps, no wonder u see my car, its 3 doors down from ur work most of the time ;P
  12. oh you're part of the work thats being done on tha vacant patch of land behind thomas st? whats going on there anyhow? I work for a company in technology park so I'm not far at all - my primary mechanic is road n track in thomas st, tho i use boostworx for troubleshooting and tuning of the gtr -D
  13. definately. if you're running a streeter then maybe u should cross notes with me, cause its been my MO for the last 4 yrs since I bought the R and somethings have worked well and others havent. max performance but only when legal is the MO. putting braking and handling before any engine mods mind you, I've done a load of things that I've had planned for yrs. It comes down to practicality and the amount of $ u got to get rid of. -D
  14. it'd be cheap - and they'd be street legal and have under 10k kms worth of use :0 -D
  15. around 4k on full boost - it hits max boost very very quickly. if you're happy with ur current setup then u should buy my n1's when i upgrade heh -D
  16. are u serious? tt application? I thought -5's were less laggy than the -7s ? Maybe I should stick with the n1's.. they are so goddam awesome to plant the throttle and just hold on for dear life -D
  17. Yep. $2500 from most places but I know a joint that does em for $2k on our current exchange rate, including 14 psi actuators. I'm still running the stock gtr actuators and a profec B If they can get an engineers cert that theyre a legal swap in replacement, I'd hit it within a heartbeat. But I cant afford nonsense with the authorities so Ill aim to get the 2860-5s in 2 yrs unless those ones u quoted can be accepted -D
  18. And that is the dilemma. I've seen 2860-5 kits for $2k atm including the 14psi actuator, which means I can sell my N1's and actuator for around $1500 (which is what I paid and considering the car has been offroad for 6 months since I fit those n1's, they're barely run in.) The exhaust housings and sleeve bearings of n1's arent tops for performance, but they are legal. Just need to find someone who'd be happy with the close-to-300kw setup (i reckon they could get to 290kw with proper split dumps and front pipes), As it is, theyre doing 275 on a 21 yr old engine. 2860 -5 should be fine, unless the -7's are responsive enough. I just dont know. -D
  19. yeah i bet that all costs a bogload. and some daisy blue will defect me for it i reckon the 2860-5 is the best option for my situation. 90% street driving (hence response wanted, as well as legality being a priority) 10% driver training at lala (330kw from the -5 is supposedly easy to get, that is >plenty< for me) -D Edit - And to put in proportion, 330kw is what the last Ferrari Testarossa put out - I was a child of the 80s and base my power figures upon said cars
  20. legality is put before performance in my case (sadly) the 2860 series are certified as after factory replacements and can get thru regency with ease thats the other bonus - what makes those other turbos more special than the 2860s or the hks equivalents? -D Edit - this is my dyno sheet from last dyno day. Since then the head gasket has been replaced and all the associated plumbing (along with a good $1600 of troubleshooting at boostworx after the engine was reassembled - not just engine mind, entire fuel system and 4wd... long story, dont ask...)
  21. boostworx's dyno dynamics. i did 250kw at the last willall dyno day with a reported 670nm torque at the engine which i was told would be 400 odd my car is very much stock as I have to keep it legal for the sake of it being my daily. i dont hold any delusions of being a wicked track driver/drifter, I just like the way it runs esp when i do a nice spirited hills run. thats the main reason im after response really... cant care about track times or dyno figures at the end of the day. at most id be using the car for advanced driver training to make me suck less. cause lets face it, nobodys perfect > -D
  22. nice but how hard would it be to fit in a gtr? shits already at a premium in that engine bay for rizzl -D
  23. i dunno eh, these buggers spool from 3k and im getting 275kw/420nm torque at the wheels.... some fine tuning to the boost controller remains as well as cam gears but eh, its more than enough for a non-rambo daily driver like me I'd like to compare his powercurve to mine. Single vs double with only 100cc engine capacity difference. Would be interesting... -D
  24. true. but the response i have atm is wicked - really dont want to lose it for the sake of a number -D
  25. Thats precisely what I'm running, could you either pm me ur setup or list it here? I'm keen to know what other gear people are running Is there much overhead for more power or are u aiming for response? I am... tho it seems the N1's don't breathe as well as 2860-5's so I think thats what I'll put there once I do the bottom end (2 yrs time) -D
