  1. Ravenoak, that must be some little power monster with that set up, those TR8's must wiegh about 900 kg. I've finally made my mind up to also go 308 after talking to my mechanic friend. I'm now looking for a VN 308 that I'm going to put a carb manifold on and change the dizzy and hopefully get the 5 speed with it. If not my mates got a Borgwarner 5 speed( supposedly out of a V8) or I'll also have to use Supra. I'm also interested in earlier 308s' black or red providing it's front sumped. I've been qouted $800 to make mounts (engine and g/box) and to fit both. If anyones got a bargain lying around, let me know.
  2. Your right there Nigel, supra box would be the way to go should I go 308. They're tough as. I'm going to tidy up the bay while motor is out and have a long think about it. Engineering will be done and I'm going to talk to a guy in my area who's converted heaps of old holden with v8s' and V6 supercharged. Hoping not to have to change out my drums for discs. The RB30de idea Ilike and had thought about this path a while ago.I can purchase a RB30 and 5 speed currrently for $680, it's tempting but I keep thinking about all the computer and injection shit that goes with it. Carby V8 easier.
  3. I know I should just dry my eyes and harden the F#$%k up, but it's a very sad day for me today. I''ve just sold my motor and as much as I should be happy, I feel (cliche) so empty. I've had a long association with this motor, about 12 years all up and it's only cost me a set of rings and timing chain. It would be the most reliable motor I've ever owned, even with triple webers. Fuel up the bowl, turn the key and away it went. What have I done? (reaching for another tissue and skull of the sphincter of the universe, gulp!) Now that you understand my grief I'll continue to get to the point, that being " I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT TO PUT IN iT'S PLACE". I am a lover of V8's, had 3 in the past, and I think it will be a relatively straight forward swap. It'll be carburetored so I dont have to bother with efi, computer and so forth. 308 and celica box is my preference, BUT I aslo like the idea of RB30et, as at the end of the day it's about HP@ tw I'm after.Somewhere in the 230HP. I sent emails off to Castlemain Rod Shop and Dower about having a custom housing made to mesh the Lseries and 308 together, hopefully they can assist. Maybe the box won't handle this power, I do have three all up and one maybe a Z box. If anyone has parts at home to make my conversion easier, maybe you have a complete setup you want to get rid of and doesn't necssarily have to be one of the above engines, let me know. If you've got a suggestion or good ideas( don't say ddon't sell your L28) I'm all ears. I just want to have it on the road within the next 6 months. More the sphincter of the universe refill I think.Ricky
  4. I'd like to say a really BIG thankyou to John who thankfully got in and got parts for me before those F wits demolished that car. John really went out of his way to help and this is much appreciated, onya John. Ricky
  5. Yeah I will paint those white bits and it's in 2 pac. Off to Bali tomorrow so the buff and bits will wait till my return.
  6. Still needs a buff and the new rear flared guard put on. But the paint certainly improves it. I'll get the front springs cut to lower it a bit more soon. Oh and of course put the bumper back on. It's not a show car paint job, once buffed it'll look heaps better as it has a few blemishes here and there but it was noly $2500 and a lot of new steel went in to replace the rust and my patch ups. Overall I'm pretty happy with the outcome and it is the first car my mates painted in about 8 years.
  7. As said above ( under Datsun Skyline)
  8. Um, wouldn't mind the two rear little windows also, if I'm not pushing my luck.
  9. Your a champ Drew, I'll still take mounts anyway if your prepared to pull them. Knowing myself tomorrow it'll be a SR20. Are you looking at it before saturday? it's just that i'm away to Bali for 6 nights Sat onwards.
  10. Andrew, I actually have a friend who is trying to sell me a L28 turbo set up.54/P90 Microtech computer, sequential injection, brand new ball bearing turbo( large), motor is fully rebuilt, and comes with plumbing but to suit a Z. It's 8.5 compression and running low boost. Has already had 240hp@TW and is apparently good for up to 280 + some. Problem is the price, he wants my motor and another 8 grand, this is the installed price but it's just a bit exy. Would be nice to stick with a high HP old school motor. Todat I'm going to compression test that 308, he wants $800 for it.
  11. So Gordie are you saying the RB30 5 speed and possibly the RB30et box will need no special Gbox X member, the L series will bolt up to it with NO alteration? The L series drive shaft yoke will plumb nicely into the RB Gbox? So in this pic, I'm looking at ( this is the one at Jollys') the Rb30 engine mount and the rubber is also RB30. Now the main piece attached to the chassis is ? C210 or RB
  12. WOULD ANYONE BE INTERESTED IN RETRIEVING PARTS OFF THIS FOR ME. I WILL PAY BY THE HOUR< SAY $50PH. The convenience of just having engine mounts and Gbox mounts pre made out ways cost, epecially when you've got to cart things back and forth to engineers. There's also some other bits and pieces I'd like also.
  13. Hi Drew, yeah I still want to swap something into it. I just know the L28 isn't going to give me the HP I want. It has to be boost or V8. V8 seems the easiest as there's no injection to set up and I have the go ahead from the Dep of Planning and Infrastructure here in W.A. I love V8s' and love me coupe, so? That 210 at Jollys' has the RB30 in it, now if I could get the relevant bits and pieces, mounts, gbox crossmember, I'm assuming it's had a RB box in it and that's why it's gone. Plus any special looms that have been made up, this could alter my thinking. I just want easy or easiest. ANYBODY WANT TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT FOR ME? I pay by the hour. Message me if doable please.
  14. Wonderin if any of you have decided to go as a group to this event in September? I personally won't be driving over but will instead go by train with car on board. It's still a while off,but maybe some have already vowed to make this pilgramage.
  15. Who's going to buy it? if it's cheap enough I wouldn't mind it. Shame they were closed today, couldn't get any answers.
  16. The job so far. Also all other bits like flared guards, light surrounds and garnish are gloss black. Pick it up on Tuesday and should be assembled by Thursday. Then it's off to Bali, me that is for 6 nights.
  17. I'm still keen on going, but only if there will be a decent amount of OLD SCHOOL. Really don't want to rock up to a R32-R34 convention. I'll go by train with car on board. What accomodation did you tee up D, somewhere close to the action?
  18. IT'S BONDI BLEACH. CHRYSLER COLOUR
  19. Thought I'd post a couple of pics. My car has now had all visible rust removed with lots of new steel put in it's place. These pics are at guide coat stage, and it is smoooooth. Near all imperfections gone. New steel welded in around the boot, that strip that holds the boot rubber in place.Should be finished in two weeks. New colour: Bondi Bleach. New number plates: BLEACHED AS
  20. CHeers.I'll search a little more. One more question, is there a list of the exact components required. Do I have to run aftermarket computer if I use 25DE head as apposed to DET ?
  21. I want to do the Rb30/25 in my Datsun C210 Skyline . I have been reading the threads about this hybrid and just want abdolute convincing that I can use the stock non turbo RB30E block and put the RB25 DE on then add turbo manifolds, Are there some turbo oil lines that are suppose to return oil to the sump, and if so how do they attach? would like to see some pics if possible. Excuse my noobieness but I've only ever run carbs and i'm out of my zone. I have a block on offer to me and would like to buy it soon if usable.Ricky
  22. D, my friend just called me and he has one, Diff and the little axles for $200. Try your luck over there first and you can always get back to me if required. Rick
