  1. usually any car with a broad brimmed hat sitting on the parcel shelf, seems to be the logo of the Incompetent Drivers Club.
  2. lol id say that top gear blurs the lines quite often when it comes to straight motoring journalism, they all have perfectly matching personalities for starters.
  3. bathurst 1991 haha ;p mad max for sure, the fact that all the stunts are real and not computer generated is awesome, not to mention the cars themselves! I always thought the fast and the furious movies are brilliant comedies, but thats about it!
  4. just another note onto this, I got pulled over by the local TMU car for a "random" check last night, the cop shone his torch on the microtech dash, the wheels and the exhaust and proceeded to ask if it was a "real GT", and whether I was behaving myself in it. Got off with a warning for a smashed headlight cover (hit a kangaroo). I was pretty pleased that they didnt use the oppurtunity to defect me for everything under the sun!
  5. I don't mind his topics usually, but yeah the market research angle really seemed to come out in his last few threads, as someone else pointed out, at least he keeps the forum moving along instead of just lurking
  6. Any HDT designed cars (yes that includes the VL Director) VL Walkinshaw (I don't care what you lot say, its one of the few commodores of that era designed with aerodynamic benefit in mind, interesting styling too) R32 Skyline A31 Cefiro R31 GTS-R
  7. The 1970's ads for the Torana's including the'When you're hot you're hot' ones referring to the bathurst victories, and the whole Hatch Hutch thing
  8. I had a cop try and impound me for having the diff lock in my commo when doing a u turn, ended up copping a no seatbelt fine to get out of having my car towed... this was at 5am on my way to work, I even said to the cop that had i been attempting to do a burnout that they would have heard engine noise/seen smoke or a mark on the road, but apparently not. Dosen't really improve my view of Victoria Police.
  9. To the OP, I really like the idea of this thread, i very nearly bought a 15k special R32 GT-R but then when i asked a few mates and looked them up, the parts and maintenence costs were absolutely hideous compared to a GTS-t, I ended up taking the middle road and going with the GTS-4, one of the best decisions I've made for a long time! I'm still doing an apprenticeship, and own another car, so I'll have to hang off a couple of years until I can get a GT-R, but then I'll have the means to look after it properly. Car make/type/model : Nissan Skyline HNR32 GTS-4 Year : 1990 Overall condition of car: 8/10 How is the car treated:6/10 (its usually putted around in, but i'm not scared to take it out to redline and give it a strap, usually drive my V8 to work now because it's more economical and cheaper to service!) Maintenance level: so far 5/10, I use midrange oil/parts in it, the best I can afford Modifications: RB25DET, aftermarket turbo, engine manangment system, splitfire coilpacks + the usual basic mods Insurance: still getting quotes Estimaged power: got a CRD dyno sheet for 241kw not sure if its AWKW or RWKW Estimated $ per month, around $800 including a basic service (which I do myself), fuel and loan payments In the end its more expensive than my Commodore in terms of loan payments fuel, and services/parts but for the amount of power and enjoyment of having it, I think it's worth it.
  10. Yeah it's a matter of personal opinion, I can live with the Skyline being quiet, but the V8 just sounds... wrong imo, ironically I got defected only once and that was for having a headlight out of all things, living in NSW and driving mainly in VIC helps with that - twice the paperwork! Btw i hate my redneck neighbours so I dont really care if I wake them up every morning On the same topic, a mate who drives a HR31 Passage with a NEO motor in it has been harassed and had the car searched by the police after some wanker had been ringing them up telling them he'd been 'drifting' around the town and that his car was heavily modified, they interrogated him over the power to weight ratio and abused him but couldn't find anything wrong with the car but threatened to really come down on him if they kept hearing complaints, was quite unfair considering he drives around like a granny. Prior to this a R34 GT-T got searched in the local autobarn carpark for drugs 'randomly', dont know if the same person was behind both, of course some moron in a R33 had to go screaming past at 100km/h + in a 60 zone at the same time just to make us all look really bad. apparently anyone can dob in people to this hotline? I still drive around a lot, but it makes me kinda paranoid!
  11. interesting thread.. well here at least, I hop in the R32 with some rather obviously non standard bits on it (nothing dangerous mind you), and cops dont even look at me, I get waved thru breatho's, the biggest hassle is V6 Commodore bogans trying to race me at every single set of traffic lights, or people staring at me like i'm an idiot because my car can take a corner so much quicker than theirs. I take the SS for a spin, and i get cops giving dirty looks, V6 bogans trying to race me at every set of lights as well as Ford drivers, LS1 drivers and otherr Holden v8 drivers, and the neighbours complaining to my old man about the noise of it. I also notice a lot of import drivers I know suddenly start snobbing me. I think driving style plays a part, but I think noise is a big deal as well - my v8 runs a straight through exhaust whereas the skyline is legally quiet and the suspension is set bang on 10cm off the ground, the main thing I notice is that Joe Public and police seem to think that loud/lowered cars of any type = hoon, anything quiet and not stupidly low ok, unless it has P plates or 3000w of stereo full ball lol.
  12. hmm id go an import (all 2 doors and anything starting with HR31 on the buildplates) personally, got a few mates with GTS and Passages, nice cars but show their age a bit now, all down to your budget i guess, a manual silohuette would be the pick of the aussie models? Try asking on www.r31skylineclub.com
  13. hmm any offers anyone? i know this is a skyline forum, but i'm sure someone must know someone who's after a V8!
  14. Up for sale is my Holden Commodore VN Executive 5 litre, I'm selling this due being over driving a V8 and buying a Skyline as a replacement. 1989 VN Executive V8 Engine: 280 xxx km (engine was rebuilt at 201 000km, have reciept for the labour, unfortunately lost the one with the cam specs, but its some type of mild non factory camshaft, the harmonic balancer, auto and radiator were replaced with the engine, as well as it being chemically cleaned and the heads polished) Pacemaker extractors into a 2.5in straight through exhaust with hotdog muffler NGK Iridium spark plugs K&N air filter new Delkor 520CCA battery Unknown memcal (chip), it's not stock though the above setup was good for 160rwkw 550nm, I think i've lost my dyno sheet, but will ask my mechanic for another one if buyer is keen. Just serviced the engine and automatic last week as well as installed a new throttle position switch. Suspension: Standard height (legal) king springs all around, 3 months old with Koni rear shocks and Monroe fronts (most of the bushes have been replaced, as well as the tie rod ends, and steering rack boots) Wheels: 17" ROH Fury wheels, with 235/45 tyres all around with 80 % tread on Brakes: Slotted DBA front rotors, standard rears with Bendix Ultimate pads. Stereo: Sony CD player with Clarion front speakers, Alpine 6x9s in a custom parcel shelf and Rockford Fosgate sub/amp. Interior: Momo woodgrain steering wheel HSV Level 3 dash (only thing missing is cruise control) Statesman velour/leather front seats, Calais back seat Roof lining does not sag like most VN's. New ignition barrel fitted last week Misc: This has been my daily driver for the past 3 years, and has not missed a beat apart from the usual wear and tear of various bits and pieces, it hasn't had the life thrashed out of it doing burnouts like many have. For what it is it's reasonably fast, it can outpace a mildly modded LS1! Car has been resprayed metallic red with an orange pearl at some point in its life, no rust, body is 100% straight. The main flaws that I can honestly find with it are : the boot has had spoiler holes bogged up as you can see in one of the pictures, this has never bothered me personally. Some of the window seals are perished, but car does not leak from the rain or being washed! There are a few cigarette burns in the seats from the previous owner. Car is located in Wentworth, NSW, about 30km from Mildura, will supply NSW roadworthy and the rest of the rego (November 08) with the car. NO SWAPS PLEASE!! I'm selling this to consolidate my debts and because I don't want two cars, so money only, and though I'm open to negotiation on price, don't offer me anything stupidly low Contact Details Best bet would be PM on here or emailing me direct [email protected], or sending a text to 0405458123 - phone reception is patchy out here so might take a while to reply! Cheers, Ashe.
  15. really? well I filled up the resiviour today, it took about 100ml, but the residual which was in there was quite dark coloured, seemed to fix the problem so far, apart from the odd grind 5th-4th, pedal feels a lot lighter, but I'll keep checking in case it's one of the cylinders or a line leaking, thats a little perturbing that yours was leaking underneath the carpet BlindElk :S
  16. that GT-R looks awesome, and I've no idea how you can call it a dinosaur, maybe the original VL Group A cars (the carby fed HDT ones with the funny bonnet scoop), but not the Godzilla! Watching the old bathurst footage was what made me realise that pushrod V8s were not the only way of making a sports car! Nice pics of the F50 as well. Driving a R33 around here is hardly a rebellion against 'aussies', meh, but if you prefer the styling of the R33 thats your thing lol, i find the R32 to have a much more sporty look to it personally. Personally I'd love to see a resurgence of Group A racing, imagine the V35 against HSV/FPV
  17. well at least he's not taking the springs out entirely like some morons around here I've seen. And about the comment on anything making a VN handle better - even a set of standard height King Springs worked wonders on mine so you'd be quite right there, but then when i only had a commo, suspension mods rarely went past superlow's and Monroe shocks lol.
  18. I've got a RB25 Stagea gearbox in my R32, now I'm having trouble getting it into gears at all - often taking off first will clunk and not go in - I've got to clutch it several times to go in, 5th-4th crunches often, and sometimes when going into other gears, I had a look at what I think is the hydralic fluid resivour, its near empty, and had a look around the pedal - nothing appears to be broken like the pedal box? I might try filling up the resivour, can anyone tell me what type of fluid goes into it?
  19. Ok I have the EXACT same problem with a Microtech LT10S running a RB25DET (also the VCT is unplugged and microtech tech support were quite unhelpful on how I go about enabling it, or whether the ECU comes with the bit needed for it) I'd also be looking at some way to run just the Microtech with ATTESSA - It's got plugs on the loom to piggyback the standard GTS4 ECU, but then I'd have to sit it on the passenger side floor :S I don't have the ABS light coming on though so I assume that works, and I have a HICAS lock bar (light only comes on occasionally when driving at 110km/h on freeways)
  20. I might just point out again that they are Americans - I believe Skylines are like hen's teeth there? That Integra is still a gaymobile though.
  21. Well its big. open and well lit, across the road from a 24 hour BP, its next to the highway where everyone races and bogans try to 'drift' the roundabout, often knocking down light poles to much hilarity, it doesn't have a time limit on parking, i can't think of a better place to hang out
  22. I'm bagging R33's in particular, they don't really have anything going for them other than the RB25 imo, you can't even give one away pretty much these days! I do drive a Skyline and love it, that doesn't have to mean I've got to like every single model, you'd also find I'm not the only person who dislikes them on this forum.
  23. this thread reminds me of the conversations my mates and I have at the local Autobarn carpark most friday nights, I feel it could continue forever... and yes obvious troll is obvious but I find them the most entertaining kind, he does have a point about some Skyline drivers being supremely arrogant though, I copped a lot of flak from them when i was driving my SS on a regular basis, course as soon as I get my Skyline they found it hard to wrap their heads around the concept that a 'bogan' would buy such a car! Mind you if I had a W427 I'd be thinking myself rather cool, imagine one of those with a turbo or two Also meant to add, its not just bogans who buy HSV's, a lot of muzza's here own clubsports, typhoons etc, there'd be a LOT of interest from them in this particular car, cause to them its all about who's fastest in a straight line, or who's spent the most on mods etc, its a continual game of oneupmanship, and to say that one has a 7 litre, well that'd take a bit to take down!
  24. If you'd watched that review all the way through you would have noticed that Clarkson loved the R8 apart from its "moronic" styling, and it was in fact reasonably quick around their test track even - when he put the time on the list, I'm pretty sure it was just below the Porsche 911 Turbo! Having technological innovation is all well and good, but if its pure wank factor stuff like seat and diff settings, is it really worth the extra price, or even having it standard fitment in the car in the first place? To those who are whinging about upping displacement in the motors etc, the 6 litre was made standard across the range because it met more stringent emissions targets than the 5.7 litre, I believe it's also more fuel efficient (and a whole lot more so than the old 5 litre), those of us who drive RB powered cars can't really say anything about fuel consumption, they are hardly econobox motors either. As for the troll, you did mention a rally there, and an EVO Lancer, which are wait for it, built for HANDLING as well as that type of motorsport, not to mention the V35 GT-R is still a pretty new thing in the racing scene. You also drive the Skyline's retarded half cousin the VL Turbo, possibly one of the worst and cheaply made Commodores ever! Maybe you should start a similar thread on the Calais Turbo forums, you might find some agreement on your opinion there
  25. oh dude.. i've been trying to convince a few mates who own R32's to drop an LS1 into one for ages! I reckon that would be awesome! Not to mention it would be really puzzling for people
