  1. agree, REALLY hanging out for it to be preorderable on Steam, otherwise I'm going to have to suck it up and buy it on Origin (f**k waiting incidentally)
  2. old topic brah, but agree, gaming laptops are too heavy to be practical, and too slow to be a true replacement. OTOH, if you move often or travel overseas at least it is portable.
  3. had a lot of bad times with my 4830 all driver related, did overclock the shit out of it in the end though hahaha. Catalyst always seems to break shit; we run ATi in our Dell Optiplex fleet due to there being a lack of a Nvidia option, and the only issues we have are again drivers. Kinda fanboyish I know, but I've never had a problem with compatability from owning a TNT2 onwards with Nvidia cards.
  4. ati cards always have driver / game issues, which is why I avoid and don't reccomend them to people (apart for use in HTPC or other non gaming). TBH if you're sticking with 7200rpm drives in a new build you should damn well make sure that you're buying the fastest one with the most cache etc you can afford. Got me stumped how people are willing to lash out on processors etc but leave their drives as the bottleneck! (unless your budget really is that tight) EDIT: furthermore to this, we are starting to exclusively rollout Vertex 2 spec SSDs in the next batches of workstations we are getting at work because it's become THAT much of a bottleneck.
  5. you bought a "magic" mouse?! *facepalm*
  6. we are already prepping a base image to do further testing; knowing apple it will fix all of snow leopard's bugs and introduce 1000 new ones. Kind of like each itineration of photoshop
  7. oh it was part of the release of lion; the refresh of the Mac Mini and MBA. pc users are hardly going over to OSX in their droves, and differently? half of these features have been in superior operating systems for years, the main trend with Lion I noticed was more of a crossover to an ios style desktop OS.
  8. hahaha inverting the scrolling is an awesome "feature" have it installed on our sandbox / admin mac here at work, does not seem different at all, typical of Apple to charge for what is really a service pack. Also lol @ the mac mini specs (esp the "higher end" one having dedicated video that's worse than the Intel HD graphics, and claims that with 2x SSD's it's faster than an Xserve with SAS disks!! )
  9. they are used as a decorative wall phagz; I still have ~100kg of SCSI disks to smash from all of the old servers meh. Yeah these disks are of the older variety, but still don't trust the brand, not a big fan of Seagate either due to RMA'ing a lot more of them than WD Blue's in the same batches of workstations. I personally would steer clear of WD Greens in a RAID though due to the abovementioned posts.
  10. we have literally 2 walls in our office lined with dead IBM / Hitachi drives that will ensure I will never buy another one!
  11. have read the same thing divveh, though most of my workmates are running RAID5 in their home servers with the Intel chipset softraid and 1, 2, 3tb Caviar Greens fine, just gotta wait for some 2950's to reach EOL so we can scavenge the pci-e PERC cards out of them Personally, I would avoid spindle drives made by anyone other than WD (ESPECIALLY Hitachi LOL), but that's just me. Run ESXi on yo stuff, it's what all the cool kids are using for teh VM's! (if you are planning on running Media Centre etc from one you may find it fairly fail though!).
  12. haha yes yes you do
  13. lol fark lapping it! maybe if it was really bad, but ive only seen 1-2 deg decreases, so not really worth it IMO. Can't wait to set up my new i5 2500 workstation w/ Vertex 3 in the next week or so, shit is going to be SO cash!
  14. have a mate running a stable 5ghz with a 2600k and Noctua NH-D14!
  15. so it only costs 200 bucks to become a complete idiot these days? BARGAIN!#%^*^$^$
  16. ugh what do you run, SEP is awesome for not being invasive while scanning!
  17. Don't know the specifics Ash, but it was a corporate MS anti virus, not a home client, just saying that I wouldn't trust MSE either lol
  18. haha well i know of one organisation who went to the MS AV prog that came in with TMG a while back, and it blocked sweet fark all (like crazy ass infestations), so think I'll stick with SEP seeing as I don't have to pay for it
  19. I use Symantec Endpoint Protection (would not touch any norton / symantec consumer product) and Malwarebytes. For a free AV, I've seen AVG let too many things in and alternately find too many false positives on computers I've fixed, don't mind Avira / Avast though.
  20. i think you mean market the features better than anyone else.
  21. played through more of the game today, have enjoyed it a lot more despite stupid things like having to use checkpoints and the bloody load times!
  22. got it today loving the references to the previous games and the humour, however they did consolise it WAY too much, feels like a port of a 360 game there are also huge discrepancies in the textures; some things look awesome (like the enemies and the chicks), and other things look blurred to the shithouse. Also not a fan of having to wait around during overly long cutscenes when restarting levels etc.
  23. tbh I'd probably go for the better processor next time so that I knew it would never be a bottleneck for my GFX
  24. Agree, and most of the "new features" in Lion are things that are either gimmicky, useless or are catching up with other operating systems; the launchpad "feature" in particular made me lol; you could do the same thing in Windows 95
  25. LOL they always are. Basically a service pack which they charge you for.
