  1. two on one boards are pointless, too hot and noisy, and the top end single cards in SLI / crossfire are faster anyway for the same price or less usually If upgrading from a POS now, go sandy bridge, otherwise wait for bulldozer / ivy bridge (mind you ivy bridge probably isn't until next year though!)
  2. even users with standard accounts can get infections lol. We use Symantec Endpoint Protection on our work stuff (inc macs), its just that the people who use macs are more likely to be complete herp derps who treat their computer like an appliance (i.e. a tv) OSX is an insecure POS to start with, I laff'd at Apple's usual method of denying anything was wrong then quietly issuing a fix for it; this almost brings them onto the level of MS from nearly 10 years ago!
  3. still waiting on my damn pre order :///
  4. something with plenty of cores and enough ram to feed everything, so think 16 gig + i7 2600k or something along those lines, I've only seen personal ones done in HyperV (though we use an ESX cluster at work, has lots of advantages over physical servers for *most* things). Disk would be another thing to consider, whether to go for a PERC / software RAID 5, SSD or 10k RPM SATA drives etc would depend on your needs; the great thing about VM's is how when they are unstable you simply reboot them without taking down everything else you have going on at the one time! Pretty sure that if you use Virtual Box / VMWare you can use OSX as a guest OS too.
  5. run something with some more grunt and operate seperate VM's for your seperate tasks, there's a possibility
  6. well why would you bother unless you're a fag who runs OSX at home? windows home server + full ATX case with CM drive bays is easier and cheaper tbh, or do you already have a rack installed at home?
  7. be competetive or go broke, your choice retailers. You're effing kidding yourselves if you think that we the consumers are going to pay higher prices so that you can make money, dosen't work like that in most cases. I agree with Ash; retailers in Australia and distributors need to lift their game or face extinction.
  8. you do realise that with our mobile "dollar caps" they just adjust the price per minute / text / kb to whatever the f**k they want right? Fairly sure that Telstra charge per 100kb on mobile data now, what complete and utter crap that is.
  9. haha wonder if any of the old 2850's we have lying around have some of these cards bwahahahhaaha
  10. that's fairly cheap given the price of a new RAID card, and damn I was hoping you were going to use the ICH so you could find out about things like sector aligning the drives lool. do you cards have internal or external connectors? Most of the ones on Ebay appear to have external SCSI connecters rather than internal SAS/SATA connectors
  11. haha how much is one of your PERC cards worth? software RAID can still be fairly quick for purely storage use! Will get a 16:10 monitor when I've got my R32 running right, ATM it's more of a priority than nice things for the PC, downside of being on trainee wages!
  12. its a pity how 16:10 used to be the norm, now you have to pay an effing premium for it
  13. its a test to see if you have aspergers fyi
  14. get a proper res 16:10 monitor, they look a lot sharper than your average 16:9
  15. used to be hilarious buying games at harvey norman or another retailer who sold bugger all stock so therefore discounted heavily, then trading in said games for more at EB a few weeks later also got rid of all my scratched to shit and imported games that didnt work through EB, mind you I used to ALWAYS check the disc when buying one! it's a moot point now, cause I buy regular games on steam for fark all, and collectors editions from sites like Mighty Ape
  16. you know how i know you're gay...
  17. haha had my balls of steel edition preordered for like 2 months, given that I have been waiting for this game for literally 13 years
  18. haha CM stacker FTW as a server. Ash: have fun configuring a RAID5 with a P67 ICH controller, much lulz has been had in our office the past few weeks with RAID5, P67 and Caviar Greens funky: nothing we have run here for the past 10 years has had 5400rpm drives, and about 5 years for laptops, also every single pc in our fleet has discrete graphics, glad I don't have to manage stuff like that - the limitations of having only one 7200rpm drive in a workstation are all to apparent these days... Unfortunately the Dell SSD option are STILL too much extra to start rolling SSD's into our fleet, that and in 3 years they will be stuffed, as we have seen on our trial run of laptops. I was looking at getting 2x Velociraptors as the pain of not having a 500mb r/w SSD is getting to me, but then it seems kind of pointless these days!
  19. looking into the exact same problem on my R32, however REALLY not keen to pull apart the dash again, has anyone wired up a seperate switch etc?
  20. ye several of the guys at work have put Ibis / Vertex 3 / Revodrives in their games rigs, I like those, but spending 650 odd dollars on 240gb of storage is too much for me when i could be spending it on my car! the only other real use for them I can see is as a replacement for laptop hard drives
  21. probably a better idea than making a huge loss on it tbh
  22. lol what kind of shite do you use at work?! was thinking moreso that for the price of a low end arse 60gb SSD and looow end video card that you could get some fairly decent stuff for not much more $$$! 5400rpm HDD what are you using, a fkn laptop!?
  23. lol which motor are you putting in it? hoping it's the original RB20DET-R
  24. one other thing; are you still selling this car?
  25. doubt you're going to see dramatic speed improvements on a 60gb SSD tbh
