R32 GT-R Wheels and Tyres.
lwells replied to lwells's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Fatz: they are about $75 a tyre more; 4 x $75 is not an insignificant amount. Anyway, tyres are on now. Thanks all for your help Please don't feel like I have ignored your advise: I have taken it all onboard. Cheers, Lucien. -

Duncan: I appreciate your advice, however I spoke to Leewah and one or two other people that run/have run ST-115s and you seem to be the odd one out. (That's not to discount what you are saying, however). Much as I would like to wait for them to order in 451s, I can't have my car sitting around for the two or three weeks it might take: I need tyres now Besides which, I am sick of tyres. Worse comes to worse and they prove to be terrible, I will replace them. LW. -
I could be pulling monkey's out of my arse, but what I posted above would be my best guess. Regarding your questions: * Why would it store data? Diagnostics mainly, I would imagine. * Just because the ECU is monitoring certain sensors and recording data, doesn't mean that it is reacting/changing its behaviour based upon that data. * Some sensors it would be reacting too: air temp, air flow, fuel quality are all important in determining how much timing the ECU would be pulling (or not pulling). I imagine that the reason people experience a boost when resetting the ECU is because, being a Japanese car, it probably starts with a base map that assume that fuel has a slightly higher RON than the muck we get. Again, all guesses. LW.

Urgh! Tempe is out of the 451s, but have offered the ST-115s at the same price. How do the 115s rate compared to the 451s? LW. -
He does have a moral obligation, arguably. Just not a legal obligation. You wouldn't either in the same situation (have a legal obligation, that is). Personally I don't think its all that amazing the sample got lost; these things do happen. I'm not sure anyone in the police service would loose it intentionally: why would they? It just makes them look bad. Moreover, it should be rather easy to track down which officer/etc was responsible for picking up the sample... LW.

Time to move in to the bluetooth headset market me thinks LW.

That not really 'learning' though, thats just reacting to air and fuel conditions which is nothing special, to put it mildly. There really isn't much reason to have a learning ECU on a car the vintage of an R33. Its a 'sports car', produced when fuel consumption and emissions wasn't such a huge issue, so I would expect it to run aggressively regardless of how the driver drives. LW.

your car coming into Oz..

Regarding the exemption. I think it took about a week to come through once I gave the customs agent the letter. If people are interested, the letter I wrote is here: http://users.bigpond.net.au/lwells/Degas_Letter.pdf I imagine if you are smart that you can avoid some of the fee by applying directly to the DEH, but they don't exactly make it clear how you go about that. Size of the tyre will depend on the exact specs of the rim. My car is basically ready pending tyres Lucien. -

Mr R32 M-Spec: unless you have an adjustable torque splitter, the rolling diameter must be the same at all four wheels. Obviously the easiest way to achieve that is to get the exact same tyre for each corner. I have decided to go with the Falken in 225/50/R16. Nathan said that 245/45 would have a little too much flex. At the end of the day, if they are crap, I will just replace them LW. -

NXTIME: Ouch. Condolences. LW. -
I don't think many (even most) people are actually questioning the information itself -- a lot of us have expected this for quite some time, and it makes sense given the recent ministerial changes and election; plus it confirms my own suspicions after being told my 1989 GT-R was being fitted with a compliance plate -- its the opinions that went along with it. DRIFTT is entitled to his opinions, but so are other people, and invariably people are going to discuss their opinions on a forum, after all, that's half the point of having one, right? LW.

Obviously, though, if one can afford a NUR anyway your going to be able to pick what colour you want. I wouldn't go for jade is all... LW. -

I wouldn't: the jade colour just looks dowdy and dirty to me. LW. -
[WLDCRD]: worn out clutches are not uncommon on stock standard cars too. Would you bother to replace the clutch, brake pads/rotors, tyres, etc, etc if you planned to sell a car? Well you might as a private sale in Australia, but with Japan's auction system few do it would seem. LW.

I agree with what SteveL has said. Personally I would be much more inclined to go for something like this: http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/au/st...sp?StockID=2654 It really depends on your thinking though. I am risk averse so tend to look for stock(ish) cars with service histories: this tends to mean you pay more for less as stock cars attract a premium and are by their nature don't have any significant aftermarket parts. Others are prepared to take more of a risk and doubtlessly save money on the outright purchase price and get (in some cases, lots of) nice mods/parts to boot. Just how much risk you are willing to take is a decision for you. LW.

Welcome to the community, but damn, some punctuation and spelling would help LW.

Painting intercooler? Installing Blitz LM kit.
lwells replied to Abo Bob's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Reverse painting looks suprisingly good. Ideally you don't need to just remove the large number plate support, but get a whole relocation kit so the Blitz logo is clearly visible LW. -

I managed to get a price on Hankook K104s in 225/50/R16: $185/ea. Only problem is I can't find a close dealer, which considering I need the tyres for blue skip purposes, is a PITA. LW. -
I knew this had to happen: my 1989 GT-R is actually being fitted with a compliance plate as part of a pilot program, so I guessed this was coming. Shame because I would love to get my hands on some of the cars that will now not be able to be brought in, and I think it puts far too much power in the hands of RAWS to extort customers unless there is a sudden explosion of RAWS approved workshops that will increase the number of plates available. LW.

Actually, the piston size has has much to do with the displacement requirements too. The high revving has a lot to do with pnuematic lifters.
