  1. My stock as a rock M35 300RX:
  2. Havn't met a Subaru turbo owner yet who hasn't had to spend $$$$ keeping the POS running (including myself). Poor reliability.
  3. Last time I was at the strip there were 3 to 4 GT-T Caldinas, they were running low 16's to high 15's on a rather slick track surface. Comparable times to the Soarer V8's. Not particularly impressive, the Stags that I did see run were sitting in the mid to high 15 second bracket, so I'd have to say that its quite an even match, hard to tell TBH.
  4. Talking about front end swaps on Stageas.... Can someone please do a V35 front end onto an M35? I think this would be awesome.
  5. Im friggin confused: Initially this thread was comparing a VE sports wagon with an M35 NOT a VE SS sportswagon! Forgive me if I'm wrong but I think an SS VE is a wee bit faster than a VE sportswagon in standard v8 trim.
  6. For Water and Laser cutting a template will not be good enough, they need a CAD drawing for the machine to read. It's all very techie, not simply an old dude with a plasma cutter, the resulting component is accurate to less than a tenth of a millimeter ( I've made a few intake manifold flanges using this method with good results). As far as a new gasket is concerned, I would just use high temp gasket silicone, it's not the PROFESSIONAL method but the number of times I've used RTV silicone on intake manifold gaskets I'll stand by that statement 100%
  7. Yes you could, anyone have a spare that they want to scan for us? If i do a CAD drawing, we could ask the mods to stick it up as a download in the tech section, all you'd need to do is download it and email it to your local laser / watercutters and specify what thickness you'd like.
  8. Umm guys concerning these head spacers. If someone who has bought one can scan it on a flatbed scanner and email me the PDF file, I can do a CAD drawing of it and we can get them watercut from aluminium in any thickness for around $30. It'll be JUST as good as the real item if not a little better as the aluminium spacer will expand at the same rate as the plenum. Just a though, could make 6mm, 10mm, 12mm or even 20 - 25mm spacers to experiment
  9. ^ What he said, I had it done, only costs $20 per injector usually.
  10. I think the difference between the Carb cleaner and the Poobaru cleaner is that you dont need to disassemble too much to use the latter. Just spray it in the intake with the air filter removed while the cars running.Carb cleaner is more of a strip the intake and clean each part deal. (I did this last service, it was most average and took a couple of hours)
  11. Sorry for bringing this thread back to life but I've stumbled onto a winner for all owners of Direct Injected Nissans! 'Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner' you heard me, effectively it's the stuff that was mentioned previously, it gets sprayed into the intake as the car is running and it removes ALL carbon buildup and varnishing from the intake manifold, valves and combustion chamber. Cans of this stuff is supplied with new Subaru service kits as a reccomended service item. All Subaru dealerships in Australia and NZ hold stocks of this stuff and it'll cost about $20 per can give or take a couple of squid. It's designed to take the intake tract of the motor back as close as possible to how it was when it rolled out of the factory. Probably not reccomended for HIGH millage cars in which case the carbon deposits are the only barrier stoppng the rings from passing oil. Well I'm doing the dance.
  12. I grease my tracks with a tub of high performance Teflon based CV grease, it's high temp so doesnt cook off on those hot days, lasts long and it's red like my paint work
  13. LOL it's an Opel / Holden Vectra, 1994. And yes it is faster than it looks on paper
  14. LOL my stag is RWD only bud. Keeps me bright eyed and bushy tailed on wet mornings Cheers for the info Kiwi, might check out Jaycar.
  15. I snaggled it off an R32 Vspec, its just a carbon fibre tube with a pleated Stainless mesh race filter and aluminium end caps with 3" entry and exit. IMO this is the very best way to fit a pod, 0% heat soak and maximum high speed cold air. 'Simota' do kits exactly like this: http://www.simota.com.au/ Click the 'air filter kits' tab and scroll down.
  16. The heat sheild i use on my Track hack is pretty awesome, it's a full Carbon fiber enclosure with 3" entry and exit piping. Keeps the charge nice and cold! Can just be seen on the Left of this pic:
  17. Thanks guys, so if i do this my wheels will be spinning 10.7% faster, so if my speedo says I'm doing 100Kph I'd actually be doing 89Km/hr not including the standard factory over read of about 7Kph. Maybe I'll give it a miss, don't want to be the slowest thing on the highway!
  18. I have a pretty general question about tires, currently my stag is running a set of 215 x 55 Bridgestones on the stock 7j 17" rims, the tires have quite a few screws stuck in them and they make a pretty crap noise when cornering . I have a full set of wet weather TOYO tires that were fitted to my track car, I think these will go really well on the stag. Problem is that the tires are 215 x 40 profile, I was wondering what affect going from 55 to 40 profile will have on my speedo? Doable or not?
  19. Now I get the same 'looks like a VOLVO' crap in NZ and the more I look at the car the LESS it looks like a VOLVO! I mean, show me an OVLOV that has a teardrop roof line and a volumptuous body line with smooth bulging arches, not to mention the smoth yet masculine front end. The only thing that makes it remotely similar to the rounded off brick that is a VOLVO wagon is the tall tail lights. People must be either blind or completely unable to recognise geometric shapes. I parked next to a V70 the other day and the shape was completely different.
  20. Yuh and theres a whole heap of VQ's on the roads running factory oil and blowing it all out the exaust before the next service. yup they use oil! If you don't get the viscosity just right, it's a bit of a design fault in a perfect engine.
  21. Got some Fuchs Titan GT 10W-30 Fully synthetic. Damn good oil. Reccomended for VQ's Sorted.
  22. I just pulled the cover off the airbox and removed the bonnet seal directly in fornt of the airbox, then I wound up the bonnet stopper just a bit. With the cold air rushing in there at speed there shouldn't be any warm air getting in.
  23. You can almost see the evolution to the M35 in the front of your stag, very nice.
  24. Dammit! I put it back on days ago and those little rubber mount buggers ain't fun
  25. Fail! Women is blocking the car! Seriously though, car looks sureal. Nice choice of location.
