    Track Day

Thanks woolls, didn't end up making it to this event but will be keeping an eye out for them in future. Is it mostly mini's that end up going to these events, or is there a fair spread of cars that turn up to these kind of days?

    Track Day

Is this track day still going ahead? I was assuming it was but haven't heard anything here for a while so now I'm beginning to assume the opposite, let me know either way Thanks, Jay
  3. I went for the RJays Striker ll, second cheapest for $170 but seems very comfy. Didn't want to break the bank for my first day on the track, will see if I definitely want to continue on with it and then start spending more I reckon. Arai though, well known brand, which model are you looking at? The RJays also had a separate set of awesome packaged up with it, as the brand name is actually my initial and name. I might have to grab a permanent marker and change it to "R.Jay's" to mark it like the primary school kid I am on the inside. Lets face it, it's much more hygienic than some of the other options of marking your helmet. Jay
  4. I didn't see any, but I also wasn't really looking either. I'm looking into some R33 GTR seats which I know fit a mate of mine perfectly who was probably about your size, fantastically comfortable and hold you much better than the standard GTS25T seats. You probably don't want these if it's just for a track car, but if they're for a daily I reckon they're pretty much a perfect balance between comfort and slight street performance. I had no idea there was an upstairs... I was in there again yesterday picking up a fire extinguisher and whatnot, where the hell is the staircase? I'm personally of the belief that either you're lieing, or there's a teleporter built into one of the corners in the room. Most likely the second option, technology these days...
  5. Hey Guys, Ended up picking one up from Revolution Racegear this afternoon, really friendly and great service. Will definitely be making another trip there soon to look at all the goodies they have Thanks for the tips Jay
  6. Hey guys, sorry for not replying sooner, just got back from a weekend up in Weldborough with some mates. Sounds like I'll have to pay Hamish at Revolution Racegear a visit over the next week, thanks for the tips Jay
  7. Clean as a whistle and I overtook him at normal walking pace (granted he was at the lights), looking in good shape mate
  8. Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new helmet, I've taken a good look around online and the prices seem to vary a lot, but without seeing them and trying any on I can't be even close to sure of what I want (or what size my head actually is). I've taken a look at a few general threads on here, but I was wondering if there were any good shops around hobart where I could actually go in try them on and whatnot. There doesn't seem to be anyone against any brand in particular as far as I've seen, but if you've had a bad experience with one I'd be interested to hear about that also. Thanks, Jay P.S. This may be a stupid question but is a motorbike helmet okay for car motorsport? Would it be a good idea to go to a motorbike retailer for this?
  9. Spotto'd tuarismo33's old r33 and a White series 2 r33 on Murray St today while walking back to my r33. They're goddamn everywhere today.
  10. I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread over the next year or so, looks very helpful I was looking for some details on the 'Come & Try Day' at Baskerville, but it appears that the CAMS site hates the link (probably to do with the use of '&' in the query string, which normally denotes separate parameters, but anyway..) so I keep getting 'Bad Request'. This sounds like the perfect kind of first day for newbies like me, but since I can't get to the information I was wondering if anyone knew some basic details about it? (start times, usual crowd, prices etc) I realise time is running pretty short and I'm not certain the car is up for it yet, but will have to give it a go to find out Thanks, Jay
  11. I grew up in the north east (in the bush near derby) and had asthma pretty badly back then, but luckily grew out of it and haven't had an attack since I was about 12-13. Don't be fooled too much by nice little old country areas as a lot of the houses are older and people will be using wood heaters rather than electric in the winters, and in valleys this can sometimes just sit around. I'm pretty certain the west coast of Tassie is considered to have the cleanest air, as it comes straight in from the roaring fourties, but jobs will probably be harder to find. I would avoid launceston because as pipster11 said it holds the smog in it's little bowl, if you're planning on making frequent city trips Hobart is possibly a better choice. I lived down the huon valley region for a couple of years and we had no problems What is/are your trade(s)? Tassie can sometimes limit your options outside the city pretty quickly if your trade isn't considered blue (or sometimes pink, social worker etc) collar work.
  12. Yesterday started out pretty stressfully, had my car in getting one of the wheels re-rolled since Tuesday and had checked on it the 3 days prior to the cruise, being told it would be ready the next day each time. Turned up on Saturday and it had probably been completed but left in the workshop, so ended up running around franticly to get a set of wheels from home and turning up late with near zero grip tyres on 300zx wheels on the front of my car and sticky new tyres on the back (only the smaller front wheels could pass as possibly being legal, otherwise I would have opted for less rear grip). After that start I still had an epic day, beautiful weather and some awesome cars. Was surprised to only really be slowed down too much by a single tourist campervan that refused to pull over on the twisties, other than that it was clean sailing. Saw an old corona had been pulled by the cops, but everyone seemed to pretty much behave themselves (even had people just cruising with a few p platers at 80 for a while on the way back down the coast road to Hobart). I was able to stalkishly put a few faces to names from the cars people were driving too which was nice, though I've forgotten already... What happened to the guy on the bike? I didn't hear anything about it?
  13. I don't like the sound of people getting broken into in firthside... I haven't had any issues but she's normally out of sight from the road and doesn't really draw a great amount of attention luckily. I had heaps of problems when I lived down in Bellerive beach, but you can't expect too much when you're living in a housing estate. I was kind of hoping there wasn't any issues in firthside as I've seen some nice cars sitting on the street which haven't been touched. I may need to up my security over the next little while, nothing like building a few technological theft deterrents. Jay
  14. There's a heap of cars going with one person mate, if you can't find anyone/don't know anyone I'll have space somewhere in the car (front may be taken but as yet all 3 rear seats are free). It's all for a good cause and should be fun, the more people the better. Drop me a PM if you want a lift Jay
  15. Thanks guys, I'm not exactly sure how I didn't know about my105 before, seems to be some awesome deals and a decent amount appear to have reg still (which I wasn't expecting). Will definitely be keeping an eye on the site over the next few years, though I can't really justify any price until I'm solidly into track days and driving half decently at speed. I was reading up on another track day post (which I somehow missed previously) and one of the hints was to not put your handbrake on when stopped after a couple of laps. This seems obvious now that I've heard it, but I hadn't even thought of it, and definitely would have just chucked my handbrake on. Is there anything that you guys have broken/would avoid doing which may seem obvious to you now but missed on the first day? Thanks, Jay
  16. Oh damn... I was hoping for some sort of romantic connection or something oh well, a man can dream. I might send some pics of my peni... car.. a bit later on. (There's about being on a forum which automatically makes me take the piss, sorry mate ) Really looking forward to this event, I think I've talked some mates into it but most are put off by the highway drive at first or simply have prior events. Jay
  17. I don't think I have any with my clothes on... lets just say I'm a bit like a cross between brad pitt crossed with jack black. That's a general invite to everyone btw, nothing worse than being in a crowd of hundreds of people and not knowing anyone, the best way to pick me out is there's a massive key mark across the front of my white series 1.5 r33, with a decent amount of paint chips on the front too, unfortunately my love of driving gravel roads is not the best for my car For serious, I'm 23, about 6 foot, shortish brown/blonde hair. I like long walks on th... wrong site. Jay
  18. Spotto'ed Kermit driving through Kingston on my way to grab some shopping, either I'm imagining it or there's a hell of a lot more stickers than last time I saw it?
  19. ~240 Attending ~390 Maybe Attending This thing has gone nuts recently.. By the way as far as I know I don't know anyone else going on this cruise, so if you see me hanging around my car come over and have a chat
  20. I'll be there, been waiting for a decent cruise for a while Jay
  21. @Scando & Funz Thanks guys, I'll take a look on the weekend and see what I can find. Not too certain what the wife will think of a fire extinguisher blocking her leg space, but I should be able to hook it up in a way that's pretty easily removable hopefully. @zoidbergmerc The long term plan (10 or so years) was to get into Targa at some point, probably just the southern stages to begin with but hopefully the whole thing eventually. I couldn't bare the thought of crashing the 33, so before I get serious and try to push any limits I will need to buy a (most likely cheap) car to do this with that I don't care as much about but still is slightly competitive, WRX came to mind because I like the concept of AWD for a track car and they come up cheap at times.
  22. Hi Guys, thanks for all the replies, really helpful and makes me even more keen to get into it @jangles We'll have to catch up at an event or something! If I plan out which day I'll let you know the date and what's going so you can come along too if you want, I have a couple of mates who have been meaning to do this for a while as well so I'm tempted to see how many I can coax out. @mlr Thanks for the info mate, I had actually always heard of Supersprints and knew the style of racing but had never put two and two together somehow. Good list of requirements, I'll be making a checklist over the next day or two to make sure I don't leave anything out (slightly paranoid I'll turn up and realise I've forgotten something crucial, like the car). @zoidbergmerc I'm going to try to stay out of drifting for a couple of years at least, I turn up to watch most rounds but don't think I could justify the costs in maintenance and tyre's at the moment I sometimes come along to the practice days, and I'm very keen to see what other people have done with their R33's, so if you're going to come down drop me a message and I'll come along for sure. I was actually thinking of going the reverse to you (getting a cheap WRX for track days, as I love my R33 too much to crash it) but that will be in the very, very long term. Do you suggest against WRX's? @Funz I'm pretty keen to get out on a track rather than do hill climbs to begin with, I don't like the idea of being too close to a bank/edge on my first run. I've seen enough Targa Tasmania growing up (and held back tears in Love The Beast) to know what can happen to my beautiful car on these roads I'm damned sure of staying on my side of the road and generally within the speed limit, having never run against the clock I'm pretty certain this would be a completely different style of driving to anything I have experienced on the road If you're heading out in the next few weeks I'm keen as anything for a drive, though I'm run off my feet at work for the moment so weekdays are unfortunately out for the next month or so. Another small question, what constitutes a "properly mounted" fire extinguisher, and is there any type that I should be getting over others? Thanks again for all your help everyone Jay
  23. Hi Guys, I set a new years resolution to take part in at least one track day before the end of the year, it's something I've wanted to do for years and seems to be something I'm able to put off indefinitely. I've had a couple of runs in a mates pro kart and absolutely loved it, but don't have the storage space for a kart at the moment and want to get my car out there. I've been looking into places, times and preparation required, but I'm coming up short on a few chunks of information. There seems to be a number of people on here who frequent these kind of events, and since half of my questions are Tasmania based I thought this would be the best place to ask. Things I'd like to know are: - Are there any track events coming up this year which would suit a first time, and where the hell do you find this information? (I'm in the south, but am willing to travel if need be) - What sort of preparation would I need to do? My car (R33 gtst) is pretty much stock and I'm planning on keeping it like that for the moment, but things like bleeding the brakes, changing the oil, perhaps installing a few braces, tyres etc. - Is there anything I need that I might be missing? (i.e. helmet, racing suit, fire extinguisher, driving skill) - Will I need to buy a cams licence or similar for the day, if so is it best to buy on the day? When I say track events, I'm happy to do basically anything car based (hill climbs, motokhana, etc.) as long as it's noob friendly and there's a good crowd of people. Also, if there is anyone else who's in for the first time I'd love to have someone equally nervous and petrified on the day to hang with, so drop me a message and we'll catch up. There's a slightly massive chance that I've completely over thought this, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jay
  24. Free bump as I saw this car in the flesh on the huon highway just out of Kingston, beautiful looking car and seems to be in fantastic condition. I have the same bodykit sitting in the spare room which I'll hopefully get around to fitting to my series 1.5 at some point soon Good luck with the sale! Jay
  25. How much would you want for the spoiler/spoiler & bootlid?
