  1. No more ripping bongs whilst cruising on the freeway! Will have to bake up some cookies instead lol.
  2. Common problem is I cannot see if the other driver has seen me, due to their dark tint. Makes for some pretty dicey manouvres sometimes.
  3. teK--

    Tyre Stretch

They must have run out of 175s... I hate it when that happens.
  4. Foglights are not driving lights are not parker lights. Need some more info on the lights in your bumper bar before working out what the legal use of them is... If I got booked for fog light use when it was actually parker lights or daytime running lights etc then I would contest the fine. It's light spread, position, colour and wattage which determines what a light is.
  5. Pretty sure the rule is that you have to give way to your RHS in a roundabout regardless of if they are in your lane. Even turning into a main road I don't go unless I have two clear lanes. You just never know what idiot is going to change lanes into you just as you're pulling into the lane next to them.
  6. The person merging is in the wrong as they must give way or match speed to avoid slowing down freeway traffic. In saying that, it doesn't matter who is right or wrong if an accident is caused as it affects all parties concerned. I'm pretty wary of merging cars as you also were, and in that scenario I slow right down and slip in behind the car on my right. Alternatively if there is no space because of other cars I will accelerate enough to clear the slowass merging driver. If I get pulled over I would simply explain that an accident was imminent if I had not of taken such evasive action; this is a perfectly acceptable defence in court.
  7. I think you took his comments out of context. He was saying that if someone can't handle 140 then they shouldn't have their license, not that they couldn't get their license.
  8. Lol @ MSY. It's either MSY or CPL, which one is the lesser of two evils? I've found MSY generally to have much better customer service. Fair call re Crumpler they have some outrageous designs I stick to the more conservative colourways.
  9. I don't care about the extra fuel used or time saved. I know my car and brakes can handle 140+, however I just get bored out of my mind driving at 100 or even 110 for any decent period of time. I just drove back from Bright today, over 300kms and I was often daydreaming because it is such a slow pace. I have paid more attention on the track at 140+ then I ever have on an open road at 110.
  10. Crumpler are the best bags I have found, to suit all different kinds of use. Awesome durability and design... They make notebook bags in all sizes and they don't look like notebook bags from the outside which is a plus.
  11. If you wanna cheat a bit for your exam, adjust your passenger side mirror so that you can see the edge of the tyre when in normally seated position. This will save you from jumping the tyre up onto the curb which I'm pretty sure is a fail. Other than that make sure your car is totally parallel with the road as you reverse, then turn your wheel enough to get the rear swinging towards the kerb at about a 45deg angle (this will vary depending on how tight the space you are parking into is). Start straightening the wheel up so that the back gets close to but doesn't hit the kerb, your aim here is to get the car again parallel with the road. Tips: Take your time, don't rush it there is no time limit. Also have a good idea of when your wheel is pointing straight so that you don't undo your good work. Are you learning manual? in which case blip the throttle and feather a clutch to get the car moving a tiny bit at a time.
  12. +1. If motorbike riders did this they'd be dead. That's probably why so many cop speeding fines
  13. Here's a dare for the government, put some of the traffic enforcement revenue towards a subsidised new cars program to get bombs off the road! (Means test would apply, of course)
  14. I'd agree, that any major change is probably going to take a decade to implement/produce results. No government invests in a 10 year plan. It's all about short term plans to win the next election...
  15. It's about time someone with some real world experience on good driving skills, has brought out such a well publicised story. When I finished my driving exam I said to the testing offier "Is that it?" Which pretty much sums up how inadequate our licensing system is.
  16. p.s. has anyone who cancelled organised their refund yet? I can't seem to find an answer to my earlier post in this thread, nor PMs
  17. http://www.drivingfast.net/car-control/heel-toe-shifting.htm By double clutch heel toe you're basically matching the layshaft AND the engine to the speed of the lower gear. It's different for every car depending on your gear ratios, so you just gotta practise. If you dont' double clutch, and ONLY heel toe then you're only matching the speed of the engine which avoids the jerkiness but still beats up on the synchros.
  18. Yeah bad luck every car's different; on mine the two pedals are even height so when the brake is down it's about an inch lower than the acccelerator. Perhaps get one of those screw-on type pedal covers for your accelerator?
  19. Cheaper to just run a hydraulic handbrake. My transmission is made out of glass anyway
  20. IMHO unless running in a field of all cars of the same class and power levels, then just focus on improving your own times compared to own results. Granted, with the DECA points scoring system it is a bit difficult to gauge how you went, since it's all placing and not time based. In that case use the seat of pants gauge or setup an in-car camera so you can measure your own times
  21. Agreed, practice makes perfect really... when I was learning I took the long way to/from work just so I could get some more mileage through corners. Once accomplished Kez, aim to double clutch heel toe which will not only stop the jerky downshift, but will save your synchros a lot. This involves what Hamish described but you let the clutch out in neutral as you blip, then clutch back in before selecting the lower gear. Good guide I learnt from: http://www.drivingfast.net/car-control/rev-matching.htm
  22. Same problem in mine. It's frustrating being in 2nd and almost hitting the limiter but the next cone is not far enough to make it worthwhile changing up, so it's a constant pace to the next cone
  23. Fantastic photos everyone, I'm spewing that I missed this one since there was such a great mix of cars! August for shiz . Ryan, once the results are up would you be in a position to start processing refunds for cancellations? Thanks.
