Clutch Sliping With New Exhaust
legend01 replied to FLO's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Hi Flo I had a similar problem at the drags last week did a good second gear burnout and launched out the hole great enough to beat a wrx yet as soon as i pulled 2nd ,3rd or 4th gear its slipped badly ,on low boost it holds fine and on street tyres now the clutch is only 2500klm old so took it back the the supplier on the week end he checked the clutch hydrolic system by grabing hold of the clutch fork and pushing it in the oppisit direction to its travel . There was no pressure on the clutch system so said that was working fine hence full pressure was being applied to the clutch just on high boost and semi slicks its making to much power for the clutch plate to handle . I would assume since putting on the new exhaust its made enough power to push ur clutch over the edge now if you have got 12 months since you were told it was on its way out you've done well but its time to give it a well deserved burial Cheers Peter -

FATGTS-R the turbo started out as a hks t4 had it rebuilt and hiflowed but that proved not to flow enough so it went back in and had a .63 exhaust housing fitted but had to be machined to take the exhaust impeller wheel as the hks item was to big and was kept on there advice the compressor side of things have been hi-flowed it a 50ar housing been machined for a 59 inducer wheel all bolted up on a hks cast low mount manifold with a 35mm hks external waste gate Cheers Peter -

Hi Roy I agree with your statement that the rb20 will never have heaps of power down low and differing turbos will make different power though i do beleive that turbo positioning may also play a part in this though not to sure as there are the high mounts like yours the standard mid mount type and then there's the low mount type like mine with my to4e which even after the last turbo rebuild they still recon isnt flowing enough for the engine don't know how though its big enough anyway getting back onto subject yours is producing unreal hp with the mods you have i would have like to see what it would produce on and engine with cams and ported head adjustable cam gears 55occ injectors it could be a big hp producer as my last dyno graph no longer appears in this thread i'll repost it as you will see i think the hp with standard boost is really good so id have to say it has a lot to do with cams etc and still returning excellant fuel econamy just my thoughts anyway Cheers Peter -

Hi MrMayhem Being hydrolic there was no problem with shim clearences had the head done port and polish new standard valve springs and the cams just bolted straight in no problems with clearences with the lobs touching the head all lobs cleared fine though i must state that the hks cams 264 duration 9.0mm lift im using are heal and toe which means the take a little of the heal of the cam and add a little to the toe to get the lift required and had no trouble that im aware of with valve springs binding but only been reving it to 7500 rpm Cheers Peter -
I thought as much but id like to do a check on the cooling system and would like to know what degree's its suppose to run at the normal running temp if anyone knows Thanke Peter
-
Hi Guys Just wondering what water temp an rb20det should run at as my condensor fon comes on alot and water gauge runs at 3/4 of the way up Cheers Peter

Well just picked up from the latest tune getting there but not yet still getting hot at the moment guess i need to get that new radiator and still recons exhaust is restrictive but I like it the way it is so this is gonna have to do for now still its not to bad check out the graphs and opions welcome .Graphs show both high and low boost Cheers Peter -
Just curious why would you have to swap to the rb20det inlet manifold wouldnt you just have to swap the sensors over ???????
