  1. I found it in my folder - I drew it at night so it's not pretty R32 engine bay, hopefully my drawing and writing is understandable. It makes the box change really hard. Combine with the "hold" button and it's like driving a manualised auto. I don't know what this does long term (I haven't done it to my R33) but plenty of 300ZX people in the states have done it. Hopefully it doesn't break the box!
  2. They just pull a plug out of a connection near the enginebay fuse box...I have a picture of it somewhere, I'll see if I can dig it out. GW
  3. One thing you can do is fit a better oil cooler for it, and give it a good flush and new trans fluid. There is a "mod" that some R32 guys have done to make the changes harder (and there is debate on this...does it wear less with or without slushy shifting?) I haven't yet spent time to work out where the plug is on the R33 for this "mod"
  4. These cars seem pretty reliable as the kays climb. I've seen plenty of turbo Skylines over 120,000 km. Some things wear out like suspension, fuel pumps etc but they are not major things like engines! I think if they are kept serviced with regular oil changes then they should last years. My old R32 GTS-t was a bit crook towards the end (126,000) only because I fed it 91 octane all the time. My current R33 is going strong and about to hit 85,000...got it at 35,000 (I learned and now only feed it >95 fuel) Over here in NZ, Brenhan has a GTS-t that is still doing hard service at 200,000 km+, and Kai's GT-R (which has had more drag meets than I've had beers) finally got a new engine at approx 160,000 km. My sister's Ciefiro (RB20E) still runs sweet as a nut at 180,000km. Counter this with my last v8, needed a rebuild at 130,000km...and the one before that was rebuilt 3 times over it's 260,000 life (I hear it's still registered)
  5. From memory Nissan made about 47 R32's with the 25t motor, this was in the last month before the R33 was introduced. I've seen one myself, and was thinking about buying one a couple of weeks ago (workmate's brother has one...about NZ$5,500) I recon they would be a great ride. Other than that, the naturally aspirated R32 GTS25 is quite common here. They drive quite nice.
  6. I was having a look at a 25T head today and I was really impressed by the standard of the inlet ports - other than a few small casting marks which could be polished out, it was really good for a production head. A couple of years ago I had an engine rebuild where I asked for chamfering the oil holes in the crankshaft. I recon it was a good move and helped feed oil to the bearings especially on startup. Would you be able to get any before and after pictures of the head work? It would be interesting to see for sure. Cheers, GW
  7. Recon it will be related to your non-working speedo...HICAS needs vehicle speed to work, so I'm guessing it throws up an error. I'd sit tight until the speedo is working again, and then if it plays up still, try a diagnostic on the HICAS or visit a friendly Nissan dealer with a Consult unit...(though normally they look like donald duck with dollar signs for eyes when you say the magic words "could you plug your consult unit into my car please?") Cheers, GW
  8. Yip, no worries. I agree it needs some of the other extra bits in there like diff between series 1 and 2, etc. The FAQ is pretty easy to add to and I intend to sink a little more time into it once I get some time off work (says he at home with a SAP session running) There is another resource thats available thats is a bit different, The Sky is The Limit book. I quite like the tactile feel of paper and designed the book to be printed out and read. That has some stuff that doesn't really fit into the FAQ type structure. It's hosted in a couple of places: here and here Again that need a bit more time (got to finish off the history of Skylines in the ATCC and Bathurst...got to use that Jim Richards quote somehow!) GW
  9. Great idea! I've been maintaining a FAQ for the SDU NZ for a while - trouble is not everyone who asks questions reads it. I put a sticky post at the top of the technical forums giving the link to the FAQ and links to useful online resources. The FAQ I look after is here There are some great FAQ ideas on the net, one of the best is a vote to FAQ feature in forums. Anyway, food for thought. GW
  10. I'm afraid it's going to get more common this kind of thing - I've seen some police guidelines on vehicle noise from the USA and infringements can be for *any* noise source whether it be stereo or exhaust. I imagine that stuff like this will gradually creep into other countries. If you want to read more material http://www.nonoise.org/ is a interesting source. I found it while I was searching for info to try and combat the NZ police noise guidelines. Agree with Urmine - I got heaps of complaints about my v8's, never yet had one for my Skylines. GW
  11. Anything posted by an SDU (NZ) member on the MysFit Forums does not constitute the views of SDU (NZ). Jon (Arithon) is working hard to get everyone back in the same boat and will not rest until the problems whether technical or people are weeded out to make the SDU forums a better place. Jon is receptive to input on these issues, please leave him a message on the SDU forums if there is anything you can suggest. Everyone has pretty strong emotions and opinions as to the future direction the forums should take. I understand the NZ exec are having a meeting on Wednesday (5 June) to address the issue of the forums. I keenly await the outcome. My plea is that we should avoid pouring more petrol on the fire for the moment. I'd like to keep the option of a friendly and constructive relationship between the Australian and New Zealand camps...
  12. I have trouble with jpilot from behind the firewall at work. There is another web front end to undernet chat in the UK, it's called bluechat or something like that. Some users can use that from behind firewalls as the page is just PHP but it also gives me trouble from work. GW
  13. Duh! I forgot about bolts being stainless. I did once save my bacon with it when I dropped a nut from my aircleaner straight through the carb and into the inlet manifold on my old 302 XC. I guess I don't get to play with the Skyline as much and pull it to bits every weekend to keep it running as the XC :?
  14. Good list, especially the universal joint for the socket set (I sometimes have used two of them together) One tool I have is a long magnetic wand (18" long bendable shaft with a strong magnet on the end) It's great for getting those bolts that you drop down the back of the engine that land somewhere j-u-s-t out of reach.
  15. I've put a note and a link to the forums here in a sticky note in the forums I moderate over on the SDU site. I personally don't like the idea of the SDU forums being closed to non-members and I don't pretend to understand why that decision was made. I'm not in the exec and I guess I don't hold any sway. I can only hope that once the Australian Skyline club gets going, we can work together again. I for one, will continue to follow these forums and the development of the Australian club with interest. Cheers, Graeme
  16. I've slung a quick spreadsheet together that has tables and conversions between the various numbers our car produce... It's on the other forums as there isn't an upload ability here yet. http://forums.skylinesdownunder.co.nz/atta...=&postid=117657 convert between psi, bar, skyline gauge convert mph, kph, meters per second convert Nm, ft/lb convert HP, KW, PS Cheers, GW
  17. Try http://www.avast.com/ and http://www.free-av.com/ They both work on XP...and will give your modem a bit of a thrash to download
  18. Ryan try http://www.freebyte.com/antivirus/ for some free anti virus programs. Alternate try to find a copy of Nortons V4 for Windows in the software bargin bins in computer stores (the current updates work just fine with it) GW
  19. I'm pretty anal about virus warnings, but I've really been bombarded with the W32.Klez.H@mm virus (see http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/[email protected] for details. One thing it does do is mass mail outs, but it changes the "from" address to one of the other adresses in your address book. I've had people emailing me saying I've sent them the virus (one guy sent me the header which showed the email with my address actually came from someone in Italy) Fun eh? I'm clean of the virus (latest updates from Nortons etc) but also have set outlook not to download email > 100kb. Once I see it not downloading some messages I clean out the email on the server with a freeware utility called Email Remove - http://www.soft-ware.net/internet/email/ei...gang/p00485.asp Find the download buttons at the bottom of the screen. Keep safe everyone!
  20. Was you old Group 3 a VH / VK /VL? I've always been a bit partial to the VH group 3, and wouldn't mind if I had one with the HO pack sitting in the back shed I'll be a cop out and say all my cars have been the best - I liked them all. 1978 XC Fairmont (219kw), 1982 XE ESP (stock as a rock 302), 1989 GTS-t, and my current R33 25T. Next car? Hmmm. Oh the options.
  21. I think it's great that the Australian team are getting together formally as a club. Why? Because even though I'm a so called "Sheep rapist" etc, I'm pretty attached to my Aussie family in Queensland. Yes there is heaps to learn from the NZ SDU thing - I've never been involved in the exec side of the club but have watched it as a observer and member for a long time. All clubs make mistakes, have issues etc, that is why there is such a huge market for business books - learning from others experiances. Look at what SDU did last year - moving from a national club into regional bodies (I'm still not sure of the benefits of that) There are plenty of clubs around which work differently, some with mailing lists, some with just informational websites. I wonder how clubs existed before the net became popular? The trick now is to take the strong enthusiam shown here and turn it into something concrete ASAP. Pick up the ball and run with it. Go for it!
