  1. I've got the current ST and it has converted me to appreciate that a front wheel drive car can be fun. It's quick and very refined, but the Megane is finished better (costs more too).

The new Focus doesn't seem to be too much different to the current one. Mostly cosmetic and techno changes (except the AWD RS). Would like to steer the RS when it lands, as I reckon Ford would do a good job.

Torque steer is shit. Tries to kill you at higher speeds in WOT. i call bullshit on the fuel figures, no matter how well behaved I am & types of fuel I use, fuel economy doesn't go below 8.4/100 and I do mostly highway k's.

  2. PDR is pretty advanced these days.

My jeep grand was hit all sides a couple of years ago. They repaired it completely with PDR for less than $5k within 5 business days.

The repair was fantastic and you couldn't tell it was ever damaged.

  3. Anyone got personal experience with the Invo's and tyre noise? I'm trying to find something that's nice and quiet in a 235/45/17.

Yep got nitto invo on my car. Very quiet.

Not the best tyre but petty good for price at the time, just need a bit of warmth in them to stick. Might be ok on a heavy GTR (got them on focus ST).

wouldn't piss on KU 31, or 36. ( Tried both on my r32gtr) and there are much better options out there.

  4. I like it.

You've made a car with a unique DNA that only you can understand because of the decisions you've been forced to make. It has a story, history and personality (yours).

You will never get that from any R32 you may buy in the future, not from an engineering stand point, but from the journey you've taken to get there. My best memories are from being forced to be resourceful in times of need, and enjoying the results.

I reckon you'd regret replacing it with anything. just park it in the corner and keep it for history sake when times change....

    Awesome stuff. Keep going!

  5. What about pics of tool organisation?

I'm trying to come up with ideas of how best to setup my new tool shed.

Hang em all up? Put em in a tool drawer? What about bigger stuff? And the odd one off stuff/tools? How to store/ organise power tools?

  6. Go test drive one and I'm fairly certain you'll change your tune.

Put a fully specc'ed (and for $50 you can tick every box) Focus ST against any 10+ year old Beemer or Audi, and the Focus will kick the shit out of it in every way.

Hate to say that I reckon the ST was quicker in the twisties than my modded R32 GTR. It has more useable power down low due to being lighter. It surprised the hell outta me, being a RWD 6 cyl traditionalist.

  7. Had the same thoughts and ended up buying a Focus ST. It was under $40k and was a great understated performance car. It has 4 doors and it goes and handles really well. Being a RWD devotee it surprised me how well it handles. It's a tiny bit cramped but overall it's a good all round package. The only major downer is the torque steer, it really really really annoys me.

Drove the megane but back then it was a lot more expensive. These days the pricing is a LOT more competitive to match the Focus ST. down side is only 2 doors. Upside is LSD and a bit classier interior.

Personally I found the ST to be an easier car to drive, get thru gears and is a less harsh ride than the Megane. Cos I do lots of k's and have a new addition to the family the 4 doors and softer ride on the ST was a good compromise over the LSD on the Megane.

Oh, and apparently Ford are testing this stuff :

Spend the extra $10k budget and have a rocket....

  9. As I have been quoting for some parts it seems I can get all the bits I want from different shops for cheaper, initially I thought that if I could get them from one spot I would get a good discount for a job lot, sadly no.

Roll bar from MX5 Plus in Qld paid for, got a very good discount through MX5 Car Talk, should be here at the end of the week, will post pics when installed.

BC Coilovers are on the way, again, should be able to pickup by the end of the week.

And, I could only fit one in the 5, its a fixed Bride knock off from Just Jap, 100 x more comfy than the Sparco Sprint I was looking at, and cheaper, I had a Sprint before and it had nil support, this is sweet for a cheapie seat I'm very happy..

It only just fit in, it mounted to the standard MX5 seat rail, only needed to file out 2 holes about 5mm for a perfect fit, Ill get another for the passenger side when I head out to Just Jap to grab the coils..

    Happy Days

What did you do for seat rails? I'm using the wife's track car while I regain patience (and a bank balance) with the r33 boat. So I want to put a decent seat in her car.
  10. I sell Jeeps and we have had a few minor issues with the current version Grand Cherokee (fiddly little electrical dramas) but overall they are seriously a brilliant car. I can honestly say that the build quality of the new gerneration Grand Cherokee is brilliant. At this stage it's the only Jeep I would buy but in the next 2 years all Jeeps will revert to the new way of building cars and will be world class. There's a bit of junk in there at the moment which is a hangover from the "old Jeep"...

Value for money, quality, driveability and towability you honestly cannot go wrong with the Grand Cherokee. Tows like a truck (3500kgs) yet drives like a car.

    Completely unbiased rant over.....

I used to have the WG/J V8 and was in the 'old Jeep' category. Reckon (believe it or not) the Fiat ownership improved build quality immensely. The new one is a million times better.

  11. I paid just under $500 for a 60k service on my Jeep Grand wk2 (current shape, but doesn't have LED head lights). Oils and filters cost the most.

I can't complain about it's reliability. This is my second WK2(I do heaps of k's) and both have been very reliable and awesome fuel efficient tow car.

  12. ahhh I've been a bit slack updating this lately!

zero additional mods, the rims have been slow arriving and the secret squirrel change may not be possible which is a damn shame.

The car is driven daily and needs a charge every 2-3 days. I have a logger on the power circuit and this is what it is costing, average of $0.52 per day.

Also, the Leaf came first and second (Kel and I) in the June SAU motorkhana, so it is no slouch: http://saunsw.com.au/texikhana-10th-june-2013-times/

What kind of distances are you traveling? Terrain? Driving style (lead foot?).

Those 'fuel' like running costs are pretty impressive. Obviously excludes other running costs.
