Hey fellas, What do you guys think about the idea of selling our GTR and buying one of the two Evos below. We've listed the GTR for sale on our equivalent of ebay (trademe) to test the waters http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =376996079 Below are the two cars that have caught our eye. Mitsubishi Evo GT2/GT1 http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =375962251 GT1 650HP Mitsubishi Evo II http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =375839926 Our thinking is we want to go faster and to get the GTR to go even remotely fast we would need to spend $10,000s to get it close. The GTR will always be a lot heavier. We're thinking it would be safer to quit with the GTR now and buy something that someone else has spent $100,000s on already. We love the GTR and the pedigree it comes from but we really don't want to shell out tonnes of money constantly when we can take advantage of someone who already had. Some of you (probably most) will hate Evos but from a pure laptime / racecar perspective is it a good idea? What are you thoughts? Ollie.

Small update, no new pics sorry. Had the plugs out, re-gapped them as they were quite out. We bought a set of cheaper NGK plugs to take to the track to see if they sort the misfire issue before we shell out for a new set of platinums. Had a little spend up on some Ikeya bits also - Roll centre adjust pillow arm kit - Front upper link (non adjustable) - Rear camber adjuster upper arm set - Traction adjuster rod set We're hoping to move up to some 18x10.5 or 11" rims and run Michelin 27-68-18 slicks (if we can get them to fit) or something similar in Dunlop as we plan on running some large brakes soon. We've had the injectors out and them serviced

Thanks Jay, (I co-own the car with savant/ Willie) If that's all it will take then it's worth it for the price saving on buying slicks alone. So you reckon, just removing the plastic wheel arch liners is enough, no guard rolling needed? Does anyone know what dimension the tyres were on the Bathrust GTRs? Cheers mate, Ollie.
-
^^ Hi Ken, Thanks for you reply mate. The car is a circuit car only, so the negative camber will be no issue and are happy to roll the arches to accommodate the extra rim width. The reason we're hoping to run either a 10.5" or 11" is to be able to fit something along the lines of a 265mm or 270mm wide slick both front and rear. Will you be posting here when they arrive in your shop? Ollie.

Hey mate, What will a set of the SLs set me back in either 18x10.5" or 18x11" For an R32 GTR Do you have these sizes in stock, if not how long before they arrive? Cheers.

Schroth gets my vote, some nice features.

Not really an update as such chaps but a small problem that has started to develop My problem is a misifre which has become almost constant on our R32 GTR (track only car) Any time under hard acceleration and high revs the car has quite a severe miss just a fraction of a second after we change gears and give it full throttle again It only lasts for a fraction of a second too, just long enough to sort of throw your head back slightly then all is back to normal until the next gear change. It happens regardless of whether the car is full of fuel or not. I was at Hampton Downs track last Saturday and it happened after every gear change when I came out of the corners and gave it full throttle. So without spending money on replacing Coils, plugs, ignitor pack etc is there a sensible place I can start lads? Car is relatively standard with an Apexi Power FC, running just over 1 bar of boost. Unfortunately I've flown back to Wellington and didn't have time to check the spark plugs etc. but thought someone might be able to point me to the most obvious area to check first when I next fly home for the weekend.
-
Hey fellas, Hoping to get some more front camber and a touch less roll for the R32 GTR and was wondering what the likes of you motorsport guys use (Roy, Beer Baron, Marlin etc). I've done some searching but don't seem to be able to find any clear answers on good brands. There's a tonne of Japanese brands, whiteline etc but am hoping to get some feed back from guys who race/ take their cars out on the track. Cheers, Ollie.

I think I'd start watching Bathurst again (last enjoyed it in 1992) R32 GTRs, E30 M3s, Sierra Cosworths etc) The more manufacturers the better in my opinion, but it does go against the financial spinoffs that Holden and Ford see with the current layout. (please no New Zealander bashing )

Rightio lads, Small update, slowly working towards fixing the over oiling issues. New oil catch can is done, holds a lightweight odyssey battery which is new also. The can has a sight glass on the side and a small tap on the bottom to drain the oil (which we'll eventually remove the tap and run a return feed straight to the sump so it will just gravity drain. We're not quite at the removing the engine stage yet so we can't access the sump to weld return oil feeds from the catch can and the breather plug on the back of the block. We may just tap into the oil feed return line from the turbo to self drain the oil catch can for now. In the pipeline is - Cam baffles - Oil restrictors - Drain on the back of the head http://www.spoolimports.com/content/SPOOLR...OilDrainKit.asp [/img]

^ Thanks for the reply Dave, I'm hoping to get a genuine one as I'm happy to pay the people that put the time and research into designing it originally

Hi guys, Hoping some of the traders may read this or someone might be able to point me in the right direction. I'm after a cam cover baffle plate for an R32 GTR, I'm hoping someone can reply if they have one in stock (don't want to wait to get on ex-Japan) http://www.mines-wave.com/english/CATALOG/ENGINE/CAMCOVER_BAFFLE_PLATE.htm Cheers, Ollie

Here's a video of me driving (badly) at Hampton Downs (just outside of Auckland), constructive criticism welcomed Can someone show me how to embed this in my post so the preview shows rather than the link?

Bit of an update fellas as to where we currently stand with the car. The cage and interior are painted in a mat grey which is the same colour as the factory engine bay Had the car out to Hampton Downs 3 times this year (2nd, 7th and 12th Jan), brakes are terrible and the new N35s Endless pads seem to been having a good go at the stock discs which are starting to crack (see pics) Dodgy 3" brake ducting in place (temporary) Brake bias adjuster in place, can be moved about but this seems easily reachable when strapped in Steering wheel in place, we've retained the factory adjustments which is good (up and down, in and out) Drivers and passengers floor mats fixed in place with rivnuts Passengers floor mat, fire extinguisher and window breaker in place Helmet box mounted Door cards are on (temporary as we want some carbon or fibreglass doors) We tried the car with no electric windows but got so hot we had to cut a hole in the door card to poke the switch through Looking inside Engine bay currently Ranga Cusco 2L Oil catch can (seems to fill up after about 15km of hard track driving, quite boring to drain all the time) Gauge panel mockup 3 trackdays old stock brake discs with Endless N35s pads (already starting to craze) At Hampton Downs draining the oil catch can....................again :? Racing! (Willie driving) As it sits this morning until the next outing at Hampton Downs Saturday February 19th (Open day)

Time for some current happenings with the car. We've had it out to 3 open days at Hampton Downs this month (2nd, 7th and 12th January) Pretty happy with the car for where we're at with it, the brakes are terrible as we expected. We've got new stock discs, Goodridge braided lines, Motul RBF660 brake fluid and some dodgy 3" brake ducting. On our last outing we put in some new Endless N35s pads front and rear which were a lot better but seemed to be perhaps a bit aggressive for the stock rotors? We're getting a bit of a miss coming out of Turn 5 (the hairpin) (3rd Gear) and also coming up onto the main straight out of turn 6 (4th Gear). Is this fuel surge chaps?

*Thread dig* You still selling these mate? To suit RB26 -
Rightio lads, very small update unfortunately. Not much progress has happened although its now at the painters, hopefully being painted next week. We're hoping to have the car done by the end of next week in time for some trackdays over the summer break. (excuse some of the poor quality cellphone pics) Door card template (have now finished them, made from ABS plastic) Test fitting both seats and harnesses Quick release spigot welded onto the steering column Steering wheel test fit, still not sure if the off set will be correct Harness shoulder strap stays welded on ECU holder nearly finished Brake reservoir bracket welded in Wiper motor mounting point moved to the left slightly as the roll cage interfered with the old mounting point. Helmet box mounting brackets done Driver and passengers floor pan done Brake bias nob ready to attach to the roll cage
-
^ Ahhh, righto. That rule applies here too, but the angle of our should straps is well under 20 degrees.
-
^ We're in New Zealand mate, those rules won't affect us. However I am interested to to hear more about this 40 degree thing? (I'm guessing it's relating to the lap and crotch belts?)

Small update. We've been a bit slack lately. I'm stuck in Wellington on The Hobbit and Willie is about to head off to the U.S for four weeks. Anyhow, flew home on the weekend. Got the master cylinders temporarily plumbed up and the brakes bled. Bled the clutch, drilled out any unnecessary brackets that aren't needed anymore before painting. Test fitted the seats and harnesses and managed to make sense of the wiring and get the car going enough to take it for a lap around the block. Also have removed the suspension as it is being rebuilt this week. This weekend (Mrs permitting) will be change the brake pads and refit the suspension. Passengers side, had to chop the floor out a bit to make the seat work. Door bars in with gusseting, also the dash bar bracing is done (just in front of the gear stick) Poor quality cellphone pic of the dash bracing Close up of the door gusseting
-
Graham, the clutch pedal is Aluminium with a 3mm wall thickness, fully boxed. I'd be slightly concerned if we had to modify the brake pedal like this (against regulations here anyhow). But I think the clutch pedal will never see anywhere near the force the brake pedal would. I'm very confident it will be up to the task mate.
-
^ Tim, we tried sitting the seat in with the sparco seat brackets and nothing seemed to work. Maybe I'm abnormally tall or something but every option seemed to warrant the need for cutting a hole in the roof so my head wouldn't hit Obviously it's been done many times on this forum, has anyone here mounted a Sparco Pro ADV seat on sparco steel seat brackets before in an R32, if so I would love to know you height, and how you managed it.
-
Smallish update today. Roll cage is moving along, main hoop diagonal, harness bars, transmission tunnel bar and most of the passengers side door bars are done Chop chop!, seems this will be the only way to mount the passenger seat. Some dodgy plumbing of the clutch and brake lines from the master cylinders. Not entirely happy, will probably end up doing them in braided stainless with some banjo fittings over the next month or two. Currently what you can see runs into some bulkhead fittings in the firewall.

You're a hard bunch to please........... Anyhow, Small update on progress so far today Seat rails welded up, with mounting spuds Went and purchased a new Sparco steering wheel 350mm with a 65mm offset (offset might be too high but can exchange) A fair bit of dish Lifeline weld on quick release hub arrived. Fire extinguisher arrived also This little bit of kit should be arriving any day now.
