comparing us to germany which is a small rich country isn't really fair. I'm sure our roads have to cover a hell of a lot more distance than theirs do.

id like to know the legalities of them looking in your car too. I was pulled over once andone cop started talking to me near the back of the car and the other one went around and started going through my glovebox and centre console while I was talking to the first one. -
most laptop cd/dvd drives are cd-cdr-cdrw-dvd-dvdrw-blah blah these days. If you can get your hands on a slimline drive go for it. It would be really cool in the dash under the screen if you have a setup like Parish's in my opinion.
-
Yes that will be fine. The cd/dvd clicks into place in the drive tray. It could even be upside down

I want to know whether its faster. The flash memory is faster but whether the data will go through the usb faster, im not sure of. theoretically usb2 is 480mbits/sec which is about 50-60 mbytes/sec which will be faster than your ide hdd works in almost all cases. I'll do it on monday so we can get a definate answer. No one wants to wait extra seconds for the music to start (or the wanky show off bits ) when they get in their cars

Go the usb external harddrive option and boot from a usb pen drive. Get the operating system onto your 1-2gb usb pen drive, then buy these http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/12349 + http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/17313 then you put the external big (depending on how much you spend) hdd in an easy to get to place like the glove box. Pack it nicely with foam or somthing nice looking. This way you can remove it easily take it inside and add/delete whatever is on it. Its a laptop hdd so its small and its also designed to survive shocks. Should be fine even with that "orgasmic" suspension someone has

In SA as cops do their training they have a couple of levels driver training. The final bit (they get this well before they graduate police school) allows them to go any speed they like while on duty in proportion with how urgent the callout is. So if there is somthing serious going on they can be going as fast as is safe, but they would have a hard time justifying doing 130km in a 60km zone to catch a jaywalker.

saw a white S2 33 on my way back from Adelaide to Mt Gambier pulled over by the cops. I cant remember where exactly tho. (after tailem bend ?! ) I hope they were upholding the sensible skyline driving image
