  1. Jim said these failures are subject to warrantee I think he said one repair was 16k that was spread between 3 companies, his, the supplier of pressure plate and I am not sure who the third one was, also full Monty clutch covers are now custom machined out of a billet material.
  2. Does anyone know when this happened roughly ? Also I take your point, I've looked again about the npc and nismo failures but it was comment s in response to jb failure. I know Jim reads this forum including this thread but I'm sure all clutch companies have failures of some description. Albeit that one above is terrible and must have been very scary . I'm sure there must have been a reason if love to hear what the insurance company had to say about that one. My concern now is not really about exploding as Jim says the covers used now are much better than the batch that was recalled and dis guarded but rather weather a single plate is driveable at all on the street. Time will tell I guess my only other problem is due to this thread can I ever really race without fear of explosion? I will talk it over with wifey. Scott
  3. I will find link it was a reference to 10 nismo clutch failures no pics no evidence found in my hours of searching
  4. I hear you... I really do. But there are stories of nismo, npc and others letting go too, please don't think I havnt considered your suggestions but in talking to Jim he was happy to explain what happened and my tuner hasn't had any issues so I just decided to go with my original plan but actually the only horror stories are in sau in the wider google search nothing of note came up under my search queries anyway I hope u don't get to say I told you so buy time will tell
  5. Well I will let u know how I go, I've spoken to Jim again about the failures and to me seems fair enough , these things happen and I guess it's what insurance is for in the end, he seems very honest and open about the various subjects so I'm pretty sure mine will be fine. I'm sure other manufacturers have had clutch failures but we don't hear about them, anyways looking forward to 450kw at the strip
  6. Yep that's what he said, u guys have me suitably worried now... Is it true the excedy twin plate is same as nismo? There is one going for a good price I know of
  7. I've told him 1100 nm and for safety he suggested solid centre clutch not as good on street but less likely to have issues, I touched on exploding subject and he said its the centre bit can't remember exactly but the part in middle of clutch plate that usually fails and it can't in solid for some reason? But the failures reported on this forum are mostly pressure plate related it seems ? Anyway I will ask him straight out tomorrow
  8. Just spent last 2 hours researching jb failures pretty scary I will ask him straight out I think
  9. Mmm strange, i got mine from sss and when it didn't fit found out it was 33 then went the 32 from Jj no problems as its brand new genuine part, you got spark issues?
  10. Tricstar, was yours overhauled or new? Did he say what the issue was? Who paid for gear box? Scott
  11. Yes there definately is a difference it's in the length of the rear plugs the 32 is longer as it goes lower than the others . Been there done that unfortunately . Scott
  12. Yes me too and for sure I will be at a cruise once clutch is done, can I just give jez another shout out, I just waxed the car as it hasn't been done in 3 months and after sitting in his workshop all that time with all the work that was done there is no marks or damage that weren't there before .... Now that's professional!
  13. Ta, I think it's cause he still cares about what he does
  14. Hi guys I got my car back from jez after a heap of issues and 3 months and now the clutch slipping a bit a 350ish kw . Even with 90% tune and not being willing to launch or rev past 6k I had a amg cl63 turbo v8 wheel spun off the line I gave it a bit after easing out clutch and I smoked him to 100 and waved at him as he kept going( didn't want to push too hard) but what a rush can't wait to get clutch in finish tune and get to the creek. Thanks jez good work and the flames are am added bonus! Scott
  15. But once it's clamped or engaged does it really matter if its 3000 or 4000 lb? Surely it's only relevant if clutch is dumped ? Please explain your thoughts / experience before I make another mistake Ta
  16. Best of luck with your wife any news? Btw I thought u were a doctor too lol. The high level stuff still hurts a bit but hopefully will improve with time at least I'm not dead, seriously though life is tough this year has been a constant struggle in almost every level, on a basic level I havnt seen my Gtr in 3 months! I will hopefully get it back this week and start the clutch change :-( it's stuff like that it just keeps mounting, then staff leaving, being sick forces me to work 70 hours again which I really don't want to do but nobody wants to work hard anymore! Anyway as I said could be worse and terry I hope your wife gets the all clear. Scott
  17. In fairness I agree with Jim if you side step a Gtr say with semi slicks that don't break traction something has to give and if the clutch is upgraded then its further Down the driveline, seems logical. I do my starts as he suggested anyhow ride it a bit in first , short shift then get into it, possibly could be faster but at least I can drive home
  18. He didn't say just a button single plate said it could hold 450kw
  19. It usually has a coloured band around it but most are already removed what does you boost gauge go up to?
  20. Mine is in the passenger side front bar and is making 360ish kw with clutch starting to slip so should get 400 pretty easy so I would say no and also I am running standard airbox also
  21. Yes possibly got a sales man but he was very disinterested and only wanted to sell me a single plate anyway had to push for twin price and yeah it suprised me a bit too as its same price as jap units! I know what your saying about a guide but the way he explained it in much much much more depth kinda made sense. He said maybe the japs and other countries could have a way of testing it but in oz there was only one machine who I can't remember and they don't let anyone else have access to it. Also he said the two best manufactures Sachs and ap have exactly the same clutch but the ap is rated at 40 percent more than Sachs and Germans are generally conservative but that does seen like a huge difference so should only be thought of as a rough guide. He said he has had his full Monty on 1000hp rb and 2j but he won't rate it at that as it depends on many other factors such as use, driver car weight but mainly the nut behind the wheel , however I see what ur saying and I also hope it works in my application
  22. Decided to go Jim berry solid centre single plate, I rang npc and wasn't really impressed with their knowledge. Jim explained all the different clutches and that single twin or triple plate the only thing that stops stuff breaking is mechanical sympathy. As you strengthen one link something else becomes weaker in the chain. Also he uses new components unless you send him your clutch that is . Price wise it's $1400 delivered whereas npc twin plate is $2500 same as nismo. Interestingly jim says nismo is the same clutch as excedy twin plate and has good clutch plates but the pressure plate is rubbish in his opinion . He also says its impossible to rate a clutch for horsepower or torque as he explained how do they do it? Rate it at 400kw what does that mean 402 it fails ? AnywAy just thought is share part of my long convo lol
  23. Ahh the eternal question... Leave it stock it's addictive like a drug and more expensive
  24. The ecu wouldn't cause it to be hard to turn over, flooded with fuel yes but me mechanically tight no. If it were me if put the stock ecu in and get the micro tech fitted for a few hours labour then urs their problem not yours.
