SAU Anzac Cruise - Monday 26th of April 2004 (Day Cruise)
whatsisname replied to CheekyR32's topic in South Australia
Exactly! -
1st - waste of time 2nd - fun for scaring the everyday commuters (fishtailing always gets their attention) 3rd - can be interesting on cold tyres. Good for instant overtaking power on warm tyres. 4th - overtaking at high speed and cruising at medium speeds. 5th - high speed cruising and the track. The above really depends on the tyre temps. When the Nittos aren't warm it's wheelspin city.

Yeah Dean it would've been very ugly with you and your GF wearing my 17*9 + Nitto in your laps! Bl4ck32, I would've very pissed off with myself it I had of forgotten to do my wheel nuts up, I'm even more pissed that "someone else" did! Looking forward to how the new engine/turbo package goes mate Keep us informed! Matt, as Dean mentioned - the Nittos soft sidewall makes the rear of the car "feel" unstable (probably a lot to do with having a loose wheel too!) I say "feel" because in reality the Nittos hold on very very well. I'd go as far as to say they grip as good as the 540's. John was surprised, as he thought I was still on the 540s (I still have 540s on the front) I pushed a bit throught one corner and he said something along the lines of, "gotta love those 540s" to which I replied "they're the Nittos mate" The big difference btw the two tyres is obviously the sidewall flex. It's pronounced enough to make the rear "feel" like it's moving around too much. The 540's have such a stiff sidewall (one of THE stiffest you can get!) that by going from one extreme to the other the sidewall flex is highlighted. With ~40psi in the Nittos (I had ~34psi the other day) and tight wheel nuts I'd say it would feel much more stable. To anyone thinking of using Nittos to go around corners, I can confirm they do actually have very impressive lateral grip, faaaar better than most normal road tyres. The fact that Nitto use the exact same tread compound and pattern for their circuit based NT555RII is proof of that. Erica, The "points" is the amount of cash that SAU withdraws from your bank account each time you post on the forum Naaa... but seriously, you gain points for each post you make. I'm guessing that these points can then be used to do things, sort of like a "frequent poster program". -

After thinking back to when my wheels last were removed I realised it wasn't the tyre dealer that was at fault in regards to my loose wheel nuts! Apologies to the business involved for the incorrect assumption. The last time my rear wheels were removed and refitted was when I had the rear guards rolled. There was two adults present at time (me and the guy who did the guard rolling) I did NOT refit the wheels, so that leaves one other person..... On a brighter note, it cost me a grand total of $16.80 for 5 new studs and $2 for one new wheel nut. Main North Nissan stock them both. It took me and my neighbour (apprentice mechanic at Mercedes Benz) a bit over 1hr to do the job from start to finish. We broke another stud just getting the remaining nuts off! All the studs were bent. Moral of the story? Always check for yourself your wheels nuts are tight whenever the wheels are refitted. It could've been a very interesting sight... watching a 3 wheeled GTS25t @ over 200km/h -
Strange transitioning understeer problem
whatsisname replied to Steve's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Steve, I agree with the other guys on this one mate - I'd say a large part of your understeer issue is due to the differing grip levels of the Revspecs and RE540S's. I also agree wholeheartedly with Pete (Fatz)... when the 540's do let go, they go BIG TIME! -
Cruise and get together Sat 15th May?

The 15th works out perfectly for me, I get back from NSW the day before. -

Apart from 1 broken wheel stud & 4 very loose wheel nuts (thanks to a local wheel/tyre dealer not doing them up correctly) it was most enjoyable. A certain business will be getting a friendly call tomorrow. Todays cruise highlighted one small thing (aside from the importance of having tight wheel nuts)... I need to have a bit more tuning work done to correct the extremely rich mixtures on overrun! Dean, the crap out my exhaust was nothing to be alarmed about (thank god) I had a good check of everything when I got home and even on the droive home all was well. I spoke to Shaun about it and he's going to do a bit more tweaking on the fuel maps. Good to see a few new faces too. -
As I posted in the SAU Drag V2 thread - awesome result Adrian! Well done mate. It's amazing the HP gain that a small shot of nitrous has given you! 117+mph takes a fair bit of grunt. If you managed a 1.6 60' on Nittos then there's hope for me to get a 1.8X on my 275 Nittos yet
-
Excellent results Adrian! Congrats How much gas did you run? Still 50hp? If so, that's bloody awesome mate. Either way 11.9 @ 117 on a standard turbo is outstanding! I can't wait to see how far I can drop my 60's with my new 275 Nittos. My Nittos have more experience than I do! They're 70-80% tread ex-9sec Keir Wilson NT555R'S
-
Nice work Al! Good top end mate. You'll be into the 12's easily with a bit more practice.
-
Sorry to hear about the prang Joel You should be able to get all the parts you need to do a full repair, without it costing too much. It may take a little while, but then so do smash repairers. I always make a habit of getting NCB protection, you just never know.
-
Hmmm... I don't know Ross (COPY ME) I can certainly see your point of getting exposure from catchy advertising, kind of like putting - "SEX!!! - now that I've got your attention" and your dead right, it did indeed work, BUT...... IMHO putting " this car has run 9.89sec at AIR" etc... could easily backfire, as potential buyers may be a little suspect of the rest of the cars info... i.e engine internals, type of cams, turbos and so on... I'd say it's probably best to let the car sell based on factual information. Either way mate, it certainly is a damn fine looking R34 GT-R! If I was you I wouldn't even sell it! Let us know how you go at AIR? The next meet is on the 2nd of May.
-
The last SAU hills cruise I went on (not last weekend, the one before) would've been right up your alley Steve. 8 or so cars, no idiot drivers, a spirited run through some nice twisty hills roads, with nil unwanted attention. Perfect!

I "might" be able to make it. -
I was thinking the exact same thing Dean! I'm beginning to think that Erica and John are professional wedding guests Dial-a-wedding guest
-
No it hasn't cleared the fiction just yet... what about the 9.89sec 1/4 at AIR?
-
Dean, how well do you know the owner? People that stretch the truth to that extent baffle me!? Why say/print things that are obviously false? The car looks and sounds (I've seen and heard it go past my house) to be a bloody weapon, why tarnish it with B/S? Oh yeah... one last thing, where can I get a Tomei pushrod cam? I don't want the "Tomei overhead" RB cam's I want the pushrod ones
-
HAHAHA.... you guys crack me up Now c'mon Steve everyone knows it's MUCH more efficent having cams that only rotate 280 out of a possible 360 degrees! The 80 degrees that's saved can be put into heating the rear tyres Matt I've been holding out on you, I had a small amount of my "special fuel" left, I've been using it to get a quick buzz now and again... I've only got 1 sleep till Christmas
-
Oh yeah... that's right! Thanks for reminding me Tim. Aaaaaand… I was running on cheap arse 45RON fuel that I brewed up from oil deposits found in my backyard :bs!:
-
9.89 hey? He did well to keep that one quiet I've run a few 7sec passes in my car but I don't think you guys were at that meet?
-
This wouldn't happen to be "COPY ME" would it? Erica, nice sentence structure
-
Have you tried running it on frogs legs and snails? Sorry mate, couldn't resist.
-
Sounds like fun - PM sent
