Build Thread: Adam's Nissan Stagea C34
Run-It-Hard replied to Run-It-Hard's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
The Stagea’s new set of wheels have finally arrived in Australia. For those who don’t remember, I had ordered a set of Superstar – Leon Hardritt Waffe wheels off Yahoo auctions, via Jesse Streeter. I’ve been trying to sell these wheels to help fund my Skyline’s build, but after test fitting them on the Stagea I don’t think it’s going to happen. I did a lot of trial and error on wheel fitments back when the Stagea was modified for the first time. I ended up fitting some 18×9/18×10 – +20/+21 wheels (the Wed’s that are currently on Julie’s S14) to it, only to find the fronts were sunken and the rears had too much poke. This is caused by Nissan designing extended rear subframes on automatic Stageas, they are 40mm wider than the manual versions (20mm each side). It just throws it all out of whack, whereas the manual variants share similar track all round. Anyway, the conclusion I had come up with was that an 18×9 – 5 wheel would be perfect at the front, and something like a 18×10 – 4 would work on the rear, if you modify or change the rear subframe. However there is one last issue to worry about. The rear shock absorber setup doesn’t offer much clearance. So it’s almost impossible to fit anything wider then a 9.5 inch wheel, under a stock body Stagea. I learnt this the hard way and needed to have my guards flared to compensate. think that the Waffe’s will be a perfect fit with a little bit of work. The fronts will be exactly the same as my second setup (9 inch -5), the rears I’m going to try dial in some camber, if that fails I’ll swap out the subframe. I wasn’t 100% on these wheels when I first bought them, but after seeing them in person and on a car, I have really grown to them. With some low, stretch and camber the Stagea will look pretty epic. It won’t happen for a while though as my main priority is getting the Skyline up and running. Still we can only imagine how awesome it’ll sit. MATHEMATICS -

It's shit to say the least. The engine builder won't return my calls so I've taken it to fair trading. The car is back at my joint for the time being. Everything will be put on hold for now I think. -

Price: $900 ono Shipping will cost roughly $100 around Australia, any more and I'll over it in the price. Thanks, Adam. p.s I'll take some photos of it intstalled today for everyone.

As some might know, I've been trying to get my Skyline up and running for a recent event. Well that only came back to bite me in the ass. So I'm in need of cash, fast! Up for sale are a set of Superstart - Leaon Hardiritt Waffe wheels. These were intended to go on my Stagea but alas it won't happen now. Specs are: Superstar - Leon Hardiritt Waffes Platinum silver finish 18 x 9.5 +-0 18 x 10 - 6 5x114.3 They would sit well on many popular Japanease cars, and look the part too. Includes 4 Leon Hardirit centre caps! These wheels have recently ceased production! They aren't perfect, as you can see there is some gutter rash. As the lips are polished they are easily repairable. They should have just landed, (I've got them delievered to work, I haven't been in this week as I'm ill). No tyres are included with the sale. Price: $1600 FIRM! I am loosing out big time, take these off my hands! Thanks, Adam.

The day had come, Friday. The day my R33 had to be complete and ready to be tuned, and trailered to Raceline’s Wakefield Matsuri. After our efforts late into Thursday night, the Skyline was good to go for its tune at Mick’s Motorsports. When it had arrived Mick attempted to connect with the Haltech, but found the consult cable was faulty. Maya (Anthony’s other half) rushed to Mick’s to obtain the E11V2, then took it to Haltech to get repaired on the spot. Once that was complete, she went back to Mick’s Motorsports and the planned tune/run in resumed. We all honestly thought nothing else could go wrong from here on in, it was the light at the end of the tunnel. I had heard nothing for a couple of hours from Anthony and I was starting to worry. Shortly after I received an SMS, it was from Anthony stating the car made 315kw on 16psi. I was over the moon to say the least. Not only did the “new” engine last the tune, but it actually made some decent power. Although there was one last curve ball thrown at us. Anthony attempted to drive the car back to my house after the tune had been completed. He got a street away from Mick’s workshop until the engine cut out. 7:30PM, Anthony gave me a call and said “Your not going to believe this, I think your timing belt snapped”. I didn’t know what to say, and I didn’t believe it. Until he asked if I had picked up the car trailer yet. Jeff and I headed out to where my Skyline was, and loaded it on the trailer. Anthony was keen as mustard to get the car back the stop, rip it apart and find out what the hell happened. So we did just that. He started by removing the cam covers, and checking if the cams were seized. Anth spun them with a wrench and they moved freely but something was making a nasty sound, we all knew what it was. Anthony then took off the timing belt cover, the Power Enterprise timing belt was still on the camgears, but looked to have part of its casing removed. He looks down and said “f**k, I found the problem”. What you’re looking at is the idler bearing sitting in the timing case. The engine builder has not only over tightened the bolt, but he didn’t use a high tensile item. This stupid mistake has cost me is not only missing out at Matsuri, it’s going to cost me a new head assembly. As the pistons have bent the valves when the bearing fell off. What gets me the most is that many people have spent a stack of time on getting this Skyline of mine up and running, and because the monkey who put this engine together had obviously no clue to what they are doing, we all suffer. I really don’t know what I’m going to do from here on in. I have no faith in this engine that has been slapped together. I’m thousands in debt and I’m basically back at square one. The Run It Hard! gang still headed out to Matsuri at 12:30am Saturday morning. Paulie and I managed to convince Julie taking my spot, she had a blast and will be going to Wakie a lot more often now. I even got to drive her S14 a little bit, as you can see in the first picture. No matter how hard we fought against the shonky engine, we were defeated by something so simple. Something that any engine builder should never get wrong. Nail in the coffin -

The past 24 hours have been frantic to say the least. Anthony and the Run It Hard! gang had been desperately looking for a pair of standard cams for my R33. I posted a wanted to buy on SAU and luckily I snapped up a pair. As soon as I picked them up I went straight to Dahtone for Anthony to install. When I got there, Anth said to have a look at what’s going on with the engine. Check it out! The GTR cams that Ali had installed were not only leaving the valves open too long, but they started to damage the head. This is on an engine that has been run for 20 minutes max! Anthony also found some metal shards blocking the oil drains, this is most likely from the cams grinding against the head. When the Skyline was at Insight, Scott did mention to me that the cam seals may be leaking. Well they weren’t the VCT feed was. Because Ali wanted to install the GTR cams on this engine, he had to block off the VCT feed. By the looks of things, he figured a grub screw would be all it needed. It wasn’t tapered, there was no thread sealant, just a pain old grub screw. Anthony and myself were astonished to say the least. To top it all off, half of the cam shaft plates were bolted on backwards! It looks like we’ve found all the dodgy things going on with the head. I’m just hoping Alister had a bit of pride and thought when he put the block together. Now for some great news, after Anthony cleaned up the head, he installed the cams and did a compression test. Which showed readings over triple the original amount. This means it’s all systems go for matsuri! Tomorrow I’ll spend some time before work, putting the car back together and finishing off the loose ends. Friday it’ll be off to Mick’s Motorsports to get tuned. Guys if you ever need a trust-worthy mechanic, look no further. Head to Anthony at Dahtone Racing. Anth, I cannot thank you enough for the effort you’ve put into getting my R33 up and running again. RECOVERY MODE -
got some, thanks.

The weekend was our final chance to get the R33 ready for its tune. There was lots to be done and many setbacks to be had. Sunday evening, we were on the way to finishing up. I had taken out the spark plugs, filled it up with oil and got ready to prime it. After a few attempts, we still had no oil pressure. Jeff Paulie, Anth and I had to come up with something fast. What we ended up doing was using part of my old oil cooler kit to feed oil into the block. We then ran the engine backwards to lubricate the oil pump. It took a while but the engine finally primed it that night. Due to the time it took to prime the rebuilt motor, our plan changed from getting everything ready to having the bare essentials installed. Anth and I bailed at 1am with minor things left to be done in the morning. Let’s fast forward a little here, the R33 made it to Insight Motorsports without an issue. I received a call from Scott in the afternoon, here I was thinking it’s been run in and he’s going to tell me how much power it made. But boy was I wrong. Scott had checked the car out, and after he ran it on the dyno for 20 minutes or so, he did a compression test. The results came back with 40-50psi across the engine. I was devastated to say the least, I was thinking “how could this happen? I’ve done everything by the book, no short cuts”. I tried to ring the engine builder, Ali from Powerplay and I got in contact with his missus instead. I explained what’s happened and her reply was “they must have done something wrong”. I was also told that Ali stepped out and will be back in 20 minutes. A day later and I still haven’t heard from either of them. A new day starts, the R33 gets towed out of Insight and back to Dahtone Racing where Anthony gets onto diagnostics. He did a compression test which showed 60-70 PSI. Anth then started looking into the camshafts, as Ali insisted on putting GTR cams into this engine for some reason. Anth and I both did some digging and no one has had any luck with these cams in an RB25. Everyone explains the same symptoms that my car currently has, and I bet if they did a compression test with the GTR cams installed, they’d show similar results. I have now acquired a set of stock RB25 cams that Anth will be installing. The way I see it right now, if these aren’t the problem well then there is something much bigger causing this. I’m confident in Anthony’s decisions though. He’s been my mechanic for four years now and when it comes to diagnostics he’s never gotten it wrong. I’m glad I have someone like Anthony to lean on when shit goes pear-shaped. He’s always there to help and never gives up until the job is done. Anthony has also gotten in touch with Mick from Mick’s Motorsports, not only that he’s some-how managed to get my car booked in for a run in/tune this Friday. Yesterday I thought I wouldn’t be driving at Matsuri (again). Today I have hope to kill my first pair of tyres in 7 months, at Raceline’s Wakefield Matsuri. CRASH COURSE -

Alright, the 33 is back at Dahtone Racing. Anth has checked over the car and thinks the cams in the engine are the culprit. The builder, for some stupid reason insisted on using GTR camshafts. These being for a solid head seem to mess up everything in a hydralic head. So, as long as I can find some stock R33 S1 camshafts either today or tomorrow, I should still make it to matsuri! If you know of anyone selling some/willing to donate whatever. Let me know! must be in NSW. No word from Ali still, obviously doesn't want anything to do with this. -
