I thought I posted in here but I guess not! Engine/Car: R33 Skyline RB25DET Type of failure: Oil pressure loss Factors influencing the failure: The hotter the engine got, the lower oil pressure would be. Seemed to get worse each time I did an event and it finally gave up at Wakefield. State of tune of the engine: Tuned by Grim performance when I bought it, seemed to be a safeish tune ... ran rich. Oil used and service interval: Varies, didn't have the car for long General comments: Never found the source of the problem. probably had no rings or something lol. Engine failure two! Engine/Car: Same car, REBUILT! RB25 Type of failure: Solid camshafts in hyrdalic head, broken tensioner bolt, destroyed head components. Factors influencing the failure: A dumbass "mechanic" Alistair from Powerplay/Hyperform built this abortion of an engine, I later found out that there weren't items in the engine that I was told would be used (I.E ARP head studs). Infact, they used my OEM head bolts off my old engine! The bolt used was not designed to take the loads of a tensioner ... it was a bolt from bunnings. State of tune of the engine: Tip top tune from Micks Motorsports Oil used and service interval: Run in on mineral oil then used 15-50 Nulon synthetic General comments: So many dodgy things on this engine that Anthony (Dahtone Racing) and I needed to fix. Funny thing is once we fixed it all, it made decent power (315kw at 15PSI E85). It was after the tune when Anthony tried to drive it back to the shop is when the tensioner bolt let go. Two months later I finally got a refund out of the prick, and I'm on my way to building another engine for the car. Third time lucky right?

For some time I’ve been tossing up what engine will go into my R33. At one stage I thought about putting in another RB25 and hoping for the best. But then Anthony said “go 25/30!”. At first I thought it wouldn’t be a cost-effective option, but boy was I wrong! So after doing some reasearch I decided that’ll be the best bang for buck option (considering I already had an RB25 head). I hunted around and found a complete RB30 out of a R31 Skyline for sale. Julie, Paulie and I made the trek to McGraths hill last weekend to pick it up. Shortly after we took it straight to Dahtone for the strip down, an hour later that complete engine we shoe-horned into my Stagea’s boot was essentially a bare block. Initial plans were to change the rings and bearings, but after looking at the condition of the pistons, and noticing the hone marks are still prominent on the bores we might not even bother. This engine build will be simple, mainly focusing on sufficient oil supply. The Ol’ RB30 will be able to handle my power goal with ease. THE NEW HEART -

As you know, Benny regularly searches for wheels on Yahoo Japan, although he has a stack of wheels, he still does it. You never know what you might come across. Well last week he happened to find a whole set of Lehrmeisters! He and I were both stunned to say the least! So, as you probably already know, I placed a bid on them, and won. These are currently 18×9 +35 and 18×10 +35, I’ll probably use the 18×10′s on the front of the car with a spacer, and change the lips on the 9J and 7.5J pairs. The wheels were listed as “unknown” so I’ve still got no idea on the model name of these wheels. I wonder if any more will pop up? A SET OF WIN -

It’s been a while since I posted about the R33, well truth be told not much progress has been made. Every night after work I get into the garage and tinker with one thing or another. A week ago I started to doubt going ahead with this, basically rebuilding the car again in such a short time frame. I started to lose faith in myself, and I was convinced that the shell was cursed with bad luck. So I started toying with the idea of going back to my roots. Yeah, an MX-5. So I had a look around, and a car in Queensland caught my attention. I was prepared to throw it all away for this drop top sports car I had just found. But then I started to think long and hard about the future, what I’d be doing to the MX5 and all that jazz. Still my heart was set on this little car and I was adamant upon purchasing it, until the seller knocked back my deposit offer. As someone else from interstate had to get back to him first. I’m glad in a way that someone else snapped that car up, because I’m focused more than ever to get my Skyline up and running, the way I wanted it from the start. A bucket-load of parts are currently on order for the new build, so for now I’ve been stripping things that are getting replaced, improved or redesigned. I’ve got four months to get the car up and running again. The goal is to attend Raceline’s November Matsuri in my own car, which will be just over one year since I’ve driven it last. There will be plenty of updates coming so stay tuned! RETRIBUTION -
