  1. Marussia could merge with Sauber leaving just ten teams on the 2014 Formula One grid, claims a report in the German media. According to Auto Moto und Sport, Marussia - like many of their rivals - are struggling and face a budget of "76 million euros." The team's Russian owners are keen to merge with another team and, having failed in a bid to do so with Williams, have targeted Sauber. Journalist Michael Schmidt claims that "chief Andrei Cheglakov is reportedly fed up with needing to dig deep into his own pockets only to be down the field but he still wants to remain in Formula 1. "He tried to buy Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff's shares at Williams, that's around 15 percent. "Bernie Ecclestone is said to have endorsed the deal but Claire Williams rejected it as Williams want to remain independent." The report continued claiming that Marussia have now set their sights on "joining forces" with Sauber, who are "looking for new sponsors and partners on the Russian market." http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/9048222/-Marussia-chasing-Sauber-merge- two less pay drivers on track.

  4. Formula 1 teams are pushing ahead with a plan to give drivers permanent numbers throughout their racing careers, AUTOSPORT has learned. High-level sources have revealed that the item has been tabled for discussion at the next meeting of Formula 1's Strategy Group, which had been due to take place on Friday but has been delayed until December 9. As well as considering the use of permanent numbers for drivers, teams have also been asked to consider displaying larger numbers and drivers' names on cars. FIA president Jean Todt and commercial supremo Bernie Ecclestone both believe that the current size of numbers is too small, and action needs to be taken. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/111650 i support this 100%.
  5. we can only speculate..
  6. Ross Brawn is to leave the Mercedes Formula 1 team at the end of this year, with confirmation of his departure expected imminently. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/111641 "The most important consideration in my decision to step down from the role as team principal was to ensure that the timing was right for the team in order to ensure its future success," said Brawn, who will remain with the team until December 31. "The succession planning process that we have implemented during this year means we are now ready to conduct the transition from my current responsibilities to a new leadership team composed of Toto and Paddy. "Mercedes-Benz has invested significantly in both the personnel and infrastructure at Brackley and Brixworth. "Thanks to the one-team approach we have implemented between the two facilities, the team is uniquely positioned to succeed in 2014 and I am proud to have helped lay the foundations for that success. "However, 2014 will mark the beginning of a new era in the sport. We therefore felt this was the right time to simultaneously begin a new era of team management to ensure that the organisation is in the strongest possible competitive position for the years to come." Niki Lauda, Mercedes' non-executive chairman, did try to convince Brawn to stay on at the team but in the end had to accept that his efforts would be in vain. "We have had long discussions with Ross about how he could continue with the team but it is a basic fact that you cannot hold somebody back when they have chosen to move on," he said. "Ross has decided that this is the right time to hand over the reins to Toto and Paddy and we respect his decision. "Toto and Paddy are the right people to lead our team in 2014 and beyond." http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/111642

  15. Sergio Perez would still be with McLaren had a rival team boss not gone back on his word to sign Kevin Magnussen for next season. "I hoped and tried to find him [Magnussen] a cockpit," Whitmarsh revealed to the official F1 website. "I even did a deal and shook hands with a team principal up and down this paddock - an absolute deal - but he stepped back... "Even after 25 years I find that difficult to deal with - I know I shouldn't, but I am still hopelessly naive. "I still think that if you look somebody in the eye and shake hands then that's a done deal. "When it turns out like in the Magnussen case, then I am shocked - and I tell myself 'learn, don't be naive'. "So having to face this situation, I decided let's go for it with Kevin ourselves." http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/9037441/-Rival-boss-went-back-on-deal-
