  1. There is a guy (from around Newcastle IIRC) who makes a more advanced version of these, which is electronically and vacuum operated. It can be set in various ways, so that at low speed it is more closed, resulting in a nice quiet idle when required, and then when you hit it it will open up to allow unrestricted flow. This is all configured for your vehicle, so it does its own thing. It then has an override mode which allows you to have it stay closed at a set point so that if you you are subjected to an emissions inspection, it does not snap open when they rev it. On a high-HP car with a big exhaust this is a pretty good idea, I reckon, as it allows a compromise between being able to drive around without worrying about being defected, and having no restriction when you want the least amount possible. I believe AutoNerd did an article on it some time ago, I think that's where I read about this one. Looked pretty trick. EDIT: Link: http://www.autospeed.com/A_0883/cms/article.html Tex
  2. Dan, it'll be fine, don't worry. Tex
  3. In my pants. Why do you ask? Seriously though, it currently resides on my camera, awaiting processing. As I said before, I am waiting to sort out some HDD space issues, so I can get cracking. Once the HDDs are installed and working correctly, I will now be able to edit pure DV format footage, instead of the other way I've been doing it 'til now, which involves importing in preview quality, editing, and then rendering the vid, at which point the footage all needs to be captured again, in full DV quality to be made in to the MPEG. Then it needs to be converted to DivX to bring the file size down to a more acceptable size. It's time consuming! At least this way I'll cut one step out of the process, which should cut the total time spent waiting for the computer to capture vid by half. Tex
  4. I believe the prototype was really cheap as chips, though Kinks will be able to tell you more. No, the real deal is for us. It's going to be quite a bit more expensive, because it's going to be a hell of a lot more elaborate. The camera alone will cost much more than the one Geoff used here... And the ideas I'm particularly keen on trying will call for a fair bit more hardware. We've not really got a shopping list together, but I'm sure soon we will. Re: sound, we have not only trialled mics in the engine bay with great success now (you will hear an example in my upcoming Hunter vids), but also at the rear bumper, above the exhaust. So far, things look very promising. As Big Kev would say, I'M EXCITED! Tex
  5. benm: Geoff and I are working on plans for the future which should enable us to get some awesome footage on cruises, track days and the like... I believe this simple camera was Geoff's first phase of testing the basic idea we have in mind, and also because he felt like it. Tex
  6. Yeah, yeah, Carlo tells me I'm very close to having heaps of hard disk space (I'm waiting for him to give me the hard drives I need, but he's a busy man ). As soon as that's sorted, I'll be editing like a mofo, for your viewing pleasure! Will most likely update this thread with them, if Geoff doesn't mind. Oh, and Mona, there's plenty more where that came from... Tex
  7. Dino, I think the lights you refer to in your post on the Fairlanes and up-spec Falcons may be what is referred to as Daytime Running Lights, and are possibly limited in wattage to something deemed non-offensive. The Fairlane's lights also operate when you use the indicators at night, the light on the side on which you are indicating comes on. Tex
  8. Just a note to anyone driving a late-model Holden: your fog lights ARE dazzling, even in broad daylight. Some cars are offensive, some are not, I think you will find. This is most likely a product of the type of bulb used in the lights, and the lens in front of it. Hence some cars will stand out like dog's balls to cops, others will appear not to be offensive, and will probably get away with it. I must have, until very recently, somehow avoided being faced with a Holden with its fog lights on (I don't know how this is possible, but anyway..). The other day I saw them on for the first time, and I couldn't believe how bright they were, in broad daylight! Very off-putting. Meanwhile, I drove around in my Father's BMW for a month with a headlight out, and the foglights on to maintain a good level of visibility for other drivers, and not once was I high-beamed, cops never looked sideways at the car... 9. Damn straight man! I was impressed! :uh-huh: PS: Tammin Sursok is a goddess. While I would hit Rebecca Cartwright until she walked funny, I'd hit Tammin until I did. Tex
  10. Erm, on second thoughts, if this is the case the Buick will be staying off the 'pan, methinks! Tex
  11. Providing it's mechanically sound, I think the Buick will definitely be making an appearance at the next dyno day, when it happens. It looked like awesome fun! Tex
  12. Which WRX was that? The one done up in 555 livery? Or a different one? Tex
  13. A couple of pics I snapped when I got tired of taking video: Looked like an awesome day, I should have dragged my arse out of bed sooner. Tex
  14. Ok, I've got some pics from the day, I don't know all of you so I'm not familiar with whose car is whose in many cases. Please also note that the track day was my first ever attempt at panning practice, and as you can see there's more practice to be had, so sorry if your car is blurry. I can only say I'll be at many more track days, so hopefully in the future these pics will come out consistently good. That said, some of these shots look pretty cool I reckon. Not a bad first effort. Enjoy! http://members.optushome.com.au/dal2/EC%20...20day%20gallery Tex
  15. Cheers. We'll have to scope some more areas to take photos, maybe get some sunset beachside ones (as I was talking to Tosh about earlier today). Maybe an industrial area at twilight? Somewhere with stairs so shots can be taken from above would be hella sweet... Anyway, if you've got any ideas let me know. Tex
  16. I started to PM everyone the link, but now I can't be bothered. Anyways, if anyone didn't realise, there are a couple of galleries on my webspace: http://members.optushome.com.au/dal2 Nick, let Johno know there's some pics of his car there (if you haven't already). Cheers, Tex
  17. I would personally be wary of anyone with a picture of a large, sweaty, semi-naked redneck in his avatar.. But maybe that's just me. Tex
  18. Yes, Tosh and Nick tag teamed that little Barina. Tex
  19. Cops are tops! Great to see you all, nice of you to piss off without saying good night. Got some awesome pics, have culled all the ones I don't like, and the best of the bunch are now online. Here are some standouts: Peace out. Tex
  20. Am I correct in assuming this is Thai cuisine we will be dining on tonight? Tex
  21. Count me in. If I remember, and depending on how I'm getting there, I'll bring the camera, if you want some pics, Nick? Tex
  22. I saw the thread title, then I checked the date of the post - that was all I needed to see. I don't know Andrew that well yet, but I do know that this kind of behaviour is not his thang. Nice one though. I've got to figure out a way to get some of my mates now... Tex
  23. Mona, judging by the vid alone, that ride along the dirt road looked very tooth-rattling... Tex
  24. Hey Dan, just so you know, I won't be participating in this one (sorry, just noticed my name on the possible list). It's possible I may spectate, but that'll only be if I can get the time off work. Have fun either way, hope the weather holds out for you all. Tex
