Rear Diff Whine After 1/4 Mile
Marko R1 replied to Marko R1's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
what diff centre would you recommend? would redline diff oil help with the noise as i know it helps with syncro's in the gearbox -
hi guys, ive taken my r32 gtr to the track a few times & have now developed a whine noise in the rear diff - i did a search & it seems that those big launches may have caused this. this is when i hear the diff whine noise: - between 60km/h & 100km/h, anything above this speed & the noise is no longer heard - when the diff is under any type of load i.e. accelerating & decelerating funny thing is if im cruising at this speed where i hear the diff noise & i very lightly accelerate where the diff is not under load or deceleration (kinda like a balancing point for lack of a better explanation), the diff is completely quiet... any ideas? i think its diff related & not a wheel bearing

im conscious of my gearbox as i have broken 3rd gear in my previous gtr (that was due to changing too fast on the street) - so im not slamming my gear changes or flat changing but yes i can improve in this area which will save me time at the end of the track i cant hold 3rd gear, i tried this in my 2nd last run & hit the limiter way before the finish line, my limiter is set @ 8500rpm. i need to get it in 4th gear to cross the line im almost @ 129mph so i know my car will do a 10 easily - practise will get me there
-
7.19sec @ 98.61mph
-
what power are you running awkw? on federals cracking a 10sec is awesome!!! how much awkw does your mates car have?
-
i finally got out there last night & did my run - btw my new exedy twin plate clutch is awesome so i highly recommend this to anyone looking for a strong clutch... i did my 4 runs & here are the results of my last 2 runs: 8.00pm run: 11.18ET, 1.54sec60' @ 118.75mph unfortunately i kept it in 3rd gear across the finish line & it was literally on the limiter for what probably felt like 1sec. this would have been my 10sec run if i shifted into 4th. 9.30pm run: 11.15ET, 1.61sec60' @ 128.65mph this time i short shifted into 4th gear earlier than usual @ approx 7500rpm to drive the car across the finish line which gave me the better mph BUT i ruined my 60' launch as i didn't put enough heat in tyres, the car kicked out almost 45degree in my 2nd gear burnout & i couldnt bring it back so i had to let it go. the equation i was given is every .1sec you save on a 60' time = .2sec save on ET time. from this if i get my 60' down to 1.51sec im there, i.e. 11.15 - .2 = 10.95 (i now know how to launch & drive my car, finally...) paul - thank you once again for allowing me to borrow your wheels & suspension, you're 1 of a kind i will be getting out there once again over the next few weeks to claim my 10 :)

is that awkw or rwkw? nice power

i cant believe that brett - if wsid's timing equipment was out of calibration by 1 pooftenth then u have your 10 sec pass anyway, my clutch will be done by the end of this week so i'll be ready to run next wed! the last time i did my 11 i was pulled up after the run & asked for an andra licence which was required for anything under a 12sec, were u asked when u did ur run? im wondering if i can get away without this licence for the next time im out there...what are your thoughts paul & did u also get my pm?

Just Jap Warehouse Robbery - Sydney 20/7/2008
Marko R1 replied to Just Jap Racing's topic in New South Wales
this is a good win! -
thanks guys - i have sourced a pump
-
i did a short 2nd gear burnout then launched it @ 8000rpm - as soon as i got into top rpm of 1st gear i could hear it slip...2nd & 3rd gear did the same thing. this is why i did an 11.7 but my 60' was 1.57 - there is still room for more improvement on my 60' yep - i had a 10 in the bag

yeah my clutch let me down but as paul explained "drag radials will always uncover the weakest point of the driveline" from here i had a 'relatively lengthy' discussion with jim berry (LOL personal joke) & paul aka TWOOGLE! my options are to either go with jims 'full monty' big single OR rebuild my existing twin plate clutch...both paul & i agree that i should stick with my twin plate which is the path i have decided to take. im off to phuket as of tomorrow, as soon as i get back im onto my clutch as im keen to get out there ASAP & get kicked off the track brett - as long your clutch is healthy (as i think mine had its fair share) your twin plate is perfect for your application! good luck with your run & make sure u post your results on this thread, i'll be checking at an internet cafe

hi guys, im after a bosch 044 fuel pump for my r32gtr - based in sydney but i dont mind shipping if required. regards, marko 0404 884 876 [email protected] (if you want to post me pics)

i have an update - i spoke to andrew from crd & he states the following: - when u start the car the knock level can be distrupted hence the hand controller should always be reset after starting (u are right paul) - if i hit rev limiter on the 1/4 mile this will also register a high knock level at times from noise etc when the exhaust pops & carries on no need for a check with my tune - ready to go this wed night
-
what a beast - beautiful colour as black is my favourite congratulations mark (paul has told me a 'lot' of good things about you & godzilla ms)

hi guys (& paul), i probably shouldn't post this here but it seems that i am surrounded by knowledgeable guys on this particular thread so here goes: I have noticed over the past week or so that my peak knock level on my power fc handcontroller reads up to 107, but only has occured a few times! i then discovered today the reason my knock is peaking @ 107 is because when I start the car sometimes the power fc picks up a massive knock reading when im cranking the car! i monitored this today & repeatedly started the car as it showed this high reading on average every 5th start. it sounds to me like the knock sensors are picking up sound from maybe the starter motor or when the starter motor actually engages the flywheel...weird huh...does anyone else have this issue? another thing as well - if i take the car to redline when the fuel cut occurs will this also register a higher than normal knock level? i had my car booked tomorrow for crd to check over but maybe this isnt required, i dont want to waste jim's valuable time. regards,

hi guys, i am interested in doing my 1st drive day with my gtr @ either oran park, wakefield or eastern creek. when i was racing my bike i would also do ride days which was organised by www.easterncreekridedays.com.au, is there a similar company that organises drive days for the above tracks? would anyone else be interested in joining me here as it would be great to get a small clan of gtr's together we can be known as the "pack of arseholes" LOL (quote: jim richards) regards, marko
