  2. Hey guys did a search on this but couldn't find anything. Basically my dad has an r32 gts and has been told that both front upper ball joints have play and won't pass roadworthy. It's the part where the front wheel hubs are connected to the suspension upright, the bit that the front hubs pivot on for steering above the bit where the tie rod ends connect to. My question is I'm wondering if it's possible to just tighten the bolt going through the middle of it to fix the play but I've been told that that would only work if the bolts were already loose. Is this correct? I've got another set of front hubs/uprights that I can swap in for him but trying to work out if I can fix it without doing that. Any advice would be awesome. Cheers, Drew
  3. About $130 for 10 yeah. I did it twice this year in my old 32gts so much fun. Also got to have a go in a 34 gtt whole crap that was awesome lol
  4. was the $350 bcoz it took you longer than 2 weeks from the day you bought the car to transfer the rego into your name? i had that with my ma70 and sw20 coz i was a bit lazy lol
  5. haha tried to pack it with steel wool but failed will see if i can get out to that exhaust place tomorrow and have a chat to them. $190 is so much better than $320 lol cheers guys
  6. Hey mate, with the engine, any idea about how many km's its got on it and condition of the turbos? cheers, Drew
  7. $300 a day, really? thats insane lol. $320 really doesn't sound so bad anymore. Hoping to get everything sorted by end of next week but we'll just get another week permit if thats not possible. He also got told that both front suspension upper ball joints (i think thats what its called. the bit at the bottom of the upright where the front hubs pivot) have play in them and it got failed on that too. he got quoted $1600 to fix it all but thats with getting brand new uprights from nissan. I've got another pair of front uprights/hubs at home so this weekend im thinking of swapping those ones in to see if its any better. it's not possible to just tighten the bolt to fix the play unless the bolt is already loose correct? if you understand what im trying to describe lol. Cheers
  8. yeah it's stainless. the setup it has at the moment is completely stock from engine to cat and then stainless 3inch from cat back. even with the silencer in it it's still to loud and has the worst sound lol. good to know that $320 is pretty average though, might ask dad if he wants me to go halves with him to help him out
  9. Cheers Zebra Have contemplated fitting another muffler, its something we're considering at the moment but got quoted today $320 to make it 100% legal. Haven't had a chance to shop around for quotes yet but does $320 sound a bit steep?
  10. Cheers Kasko, did not even notice that thread
  11. Hey guys, did not even notice this thread! Does anyone have a stock or quiet catback exhaust for an R32 GTS/GTST that me and my dad could borrow for his car to pass roadworthy? We tried the steel wool trick and it still failed Cheers!
  12. Hey all, how's it going? Been floating around the forums for a while now and thought it was time to introduce ourselves and ask for a little bit of help. Our names are Drew and Jess. We live with Veilwest and Ozcan so its a very Nissan friendly household with Ozcan's black on black R34 GTT, Veilwests widebody S15 and our R32 GTR. Currently the GTR is a little dead (spun a bearing ) so thats the main reason for not introducing ourselves a little earlier lol. It was only on the roads of Canberra for 1 day before it shat itself so unlikely its been spotted driving around but may have been spotted while on the back of a tow truck once or twice. It's gunmetal grey with a gold pearl to it (Ask Eiji, its hot lol). Very pretty but very dead lol. Still love the car, its in the process of being fixed so hopefully we'll be able to meet up with everyone before the end of the year. Anyway, back to asking for a little bit of help.... I gave my dad (Drew's dad) my old R32 GTS when me and Jess bought the GTR so he's currently in the process of trying to get a roadworthy sorted. I only owned the car for close to a year so i never ended up swapping the rego over because by the time rego ran out we would have our GTR. Basically the exhaust that the previous owner put on it is ridiculously loud and failed roadworthy, so I'm wondering if anyone here has a stock or quiet catback exhaust for an R32 that would pass roadworthy that me and my dad would be able to buy or borrow for a couple of days at some point to pass roadworthy. Any help would be greatly appreciated Cheers guys, Drew
  13. Hey guys, Has anyone seen this? --->> My link What are peoples thoughts? Drew
  14. Hey guys, need some new tie rod ends for my dads r32 gts. apparently he gave pedders a call and they asked him for the demensions of the tie rod ends from the ball joint to the top of the tie rod ends thread. just wondering if anyone knows those demensions off the top of their head? i already know that the they have to be the 14mm thread. cheers, drew
  15. It has drains in the back of the head with lines that go straight back into the drivers side of the sump. Drained the oil out of the sump last night and couldn't see any signs of metal in the oil so am now just confused even more. I was under the impression that generally when rb26's lose oil pressure and develop a knock they dump almost all the oil out into the engine bay. Ours has no signs of oil being anywhere that it shouldnt be. The sump was full after it lost oil pressure, the catch can isnt full, theres no oil leaks anywhere. As you can imagine we have a million and one questions going through our heads at the moment and are just really confused lol. We know that the only real way to find out for sure is to get it into a workshop to get checked out but any other ideas you guys might have would be greatly sppreciated! Cheers, Drew
  16. DVS JEZ: That thought has definitely crossed my mind. smithy85: Yeah its got the 2 lines coming out the top/back of the engine leading into a catch can where the battery used to be Cheers for the replies guys
  17. The sump was overfilled when we checked. The N1 pump was a 2009 model and I have read that N1 pumps aren't the greatest but better than stock. The car doesn't have cam baffles or an extended sump. Don't think the previous owner really drove it much as it has pretty much been a weekender for him mostly living in the garage. The more we read into it, it sounds like the oil pump is destroyed. Better than a spun bearing though I guess. Only time will tell, we'll find out tomorrow! What pump do you recommend? And other than putting cam baffles in and an extended sump, are there any other improvements that we can make to lessen the chance of something like this happening again? Really appreciate the response
  18. Hey guys My boyfriend and I just bought a 1989 r32 gtr Nismo edition with a fully rebuilt engine. Some engine specs are: - N1 block - r33 gtr crankshaft -wiseco forged pistons -h-beam conrods - N1 oil pump - nismo big end and main bearings - tomei sump baffle We took it out for a bit of a run today and had to get it towed home by the end of it. We booted it a bit down the straight and wouldn't have even reached 200kms, revved it, and then downshifted to 3rd gear when we heard a knocking noise coming from the engine. We pulled over into a carpark for a look. There was no smoke, no leaks, no smells under the bonnet and the engine wasn't overly warm. There was just a clunking noise that seemed to follow the revs. Turned it off for about 45mins and then turned it back on to find that we had lost oil pressure to the point that the warning light was coming on. Decided that we should try and drive it to see if the oil pressure light would go off and the engine seemed fine. It turned over as normal, wasn't overheating, still had all of it's power but there was still the knocking noise. We checked the oil and it was normal, we also checked the coolant, checked to see if any carbon crap was being blown out of the exhaust and all was normal. We have read a lot about rb26's and the oil problems that arise with older models however seeing as this is a fully rebuilt rb with a N1 block that has only done roughly 25000 kms we never expected to run into the dreaded rb26 oil problem in such a short space of time without even pushing the engine. The fact that we lost oil pressure isn't a good sign and we are hoping that we haven't spun a bearing. What else could it be? Rod knock? Destroyed oil pump crank collar? A bad tune? We are going to drain the oil tomorrow morning and hope like hell that there are no metal shavings/bits floating around that would mean a complete engine rebuild so soon. Any ideas? Has anyone else come across anything similar? Thanks guys for any advice!
