  1. yeah check off valve = blow off valve. I always called it blow off valve, but that's what they wrote on the list they gave me.
  2. For sure, I'm definitely not going back to them. Do you guys have a recommendation for someone to take it to? Is it possible someone will pass it with the exhaust and check-off valve? Is a bent radiator support panel a big issue?
  3. Hi guys, I joined up here a few years ago when I used to own an r-33 GTR, this community has been really helpful in the past and obviously has a lot of experienced with modified cars & blue slips. I desperately need advice on my current situation. I live in Sydney & own a 2000 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX, which I foolishly allowed to run out of rego (wasn't driving it often, money pretty tight), I didn't realise it would be so difficult to get a blue slip for a modified car. My mechanic down the road quoted me $2250 all up (wtf?) to put it back to stock and do the following work (obviously he's a completely by the book guy, possibly over-quoted as well): - pedal rubbers (the pedals are aftermarket lol) - check off valve - exhaust (its a half system) - NISIR stop light (not sure what NISIR means, but he said the stop light was out) - Oil leaks - Radiator support panel bent (I hit a bump in the road pretty hard about a year back damaged the front lip of the car, so I assume that's what its from) - Headlight covers (presumably not a big deal) Where should I take it (around Sydney) and what's the best approach to get a blue slip for the least amount of money possible? The main issues are obviously the exhaust, the check off valve and the bent radiator panel, nothing else seems major. I can't afford to put thousands of dollars into a car that's worth ~5k. That being said the car is reliable and has plenty of years left in it. I also really can't afford a new car either. Is an engineers certificate my only option? Please help!
  4. Yeah it was, I was loving it for the whole month I had it... The accident totally took me by surprise, I wasn't even doing anything that crazy, I came into a corner doing like 65-70. The corner would've only been like a 30 degree bend, but it wasn't rounded, like you come into it and then have to change direction sort of. I must have given it too much power, too quickly, coming out of the corner because the car suddenly lost traction - skidded to the right/then to the left and came all the way around to crash into a tree on the passenger side with the car facing the way it came... I realised about 2 weeks ago that apparently the car had retreaded tyres on it and made a note to replace the tyres ASAP. But I was a bit strapped for cash since buying the car and hadn't gotten around to it. I don't know anything about retreads except that they're supposed to be pretty terrible. I wonder if getting some decent tyres would've saved my ass?? Compared to any other cars I've owned the gtr handled like it was on rails, but it did surprise me a couple times how easily things could go south if the grip did give. Here's a "before" pic lol: http://imgur.com/b88It My life plan now is pretty much save up money and not make the same mistakes twice. If I get another GTR I'd get the best tyres possible, take it to a track asap to get the best driving education I can and insure the f**k out of it lol. I pretty much just figured I wouldn't crash it, since I've never crashed anything else. before
  5. yeah, I got nothing but a couple scratches, lucky no passenger.
  6. http://imgur.com/a/66fRT (click on the link for pics) Ok well as you can see the car is pretty beat up. Smashed in from the side, some damage to the front - virtually no damage to the rear or driver's side. The engine should be ok, not so sure about the timing belt? the pictures are pretty acccurate, the front has been crunched a bit, but it doesn't really get as far as the engine. All the brakes are fine. 1 out of the four wheels is damaged, I put a pic up of one of the wheels where the tyre was dislodged, but I couldn't see anything actually wrong with the wheel. winshield = cracked Drivers seat & dash are fine, passenger seat is pretty messed up. Back seat may be salvageable but its been knocked a bit. Generally the interior is in good shape. As for the rest of it mechanically, have a look at the pictures or call me up and I'll show it to you (0425222753) I'm hoping to find someone to buy the wreck as is. Its 68000km, first australian owner, all stock. hoping for something around the 8k mark. I'm not a mechanic, but I'm expecting most of the car to be mechanically sound and I know the engine alone is worth a decent bit. I'm happy to show it to people or answer any questions to the best of my ability and am of course willing to negotiate. If I can't make a decent deal on the wreck as is then I'll consider parting it out. http://imgur.com/a/66fRT (click on the link for pics) also there's this one as well: http://imgur.com/5jmkj
  7. Just give me one day to get down to the yard, get some pics and get a better idea of the damage. The tower hasn't gotten back to me : / Btw the car is 100% stock
  8. Well I just managed to wreck my pristine 95' R33 GTR. Only done 68km, she's sitting in a yard right now. I don't have a precise idea of all the damage, but afaik the engine should be intact as well as plenty of other things, at least 2 of the wheels are fine, seats, dash, brakes etc. etc. I'm not much of a mechanic, so I'd prefer to avoid parting it out myself if anyone here is interested in buying the wreck from me, it is available for inspection around ryde, my phone number is 0425222753. I will update this post tomorrow with pictures and more information when I check out the car. I'm sure there's a lot that can be salvaged from it. The car impacted a tree on the passenger side, however the damage to the front is not too extensive.
