I'm the last person to 'follow a trend' but $1386 rrp for the G4 Link plug in vs $1650 for the Vipec = only $264 in favour of the G4, and Link told me that the G4 doesn't come with an IAT sensor so the difference is even less. On the odd time I've called Ray to get clarification on something he's been more than helpful, when I called Link they didn't seem very enthusiatic and could name only a couple of dealers in Sydney and none locally (Canberra).
That said, when I've scoped Vipec dealers in anticipation of getting someone to install, most of them weren't aware of some really fundamental stuff that was in the manual, which did nothing to reassure me. For example, one was going to charge me for a mac valve when the GTR solenoid is fine for controlling boost. The only one within reasonable travel time that did appear to know it well wanted $3000 drive in-drive out. No thanks.
While the 'whose ecu is it really' question is interesting, surely the main game is finding out which provides overall best bang for the buck. At this stage it seems to be the Vipec due to its popularity, and I don't see any threads on SAU extolling the virtues of the Link. Correct me if I'm wrong.
