I know what 4WS is. I searched for it on here and didn't find anything.

Can someone explain to me how it works (as in when it works). To my unederstanding 4WS only kicks in under 40kmh (that's how it was on my friend's eunos I think).

I also have a friend with an MX6 ??? and he said he tried drifting and the 4WS just f**ks it up for him.

R32 GT-R do have 4WS right? When is it active?

The 4ws system in Skylines is called 'HICAS' - do a search for that and you'll turn up a bazillion threads with the info you need....

HICAS, rear wheels turn 3mm either way after 80klm. Theres an extra 2 oil lines that run to your rear wheels that are fed pressure once you hit 80klms. If have trouble drifting with hicas ( need slightly quicker reaction time ) can buy a kit to block of the 2 extra lines or can simply put to screws into the lines to stop the pressure being fed to your rear wheels.

so the advantage of HICAS is that you can corner better at higher speed right?

Wouldn't it wear the tyres faster and also make it harder to break traction?

Is the rear wheel steering as responsive as the fronts? Like is it quick enuff that it can be safe to go from OP lock to OP lock?

Yup, the whole point of HICAS is to stop the rear end from breaking traction and allow ordinary mortals to corner faster. Hence why drifters and those that like to hang the tail out hate the system.

Tyre wear - shouldn't make any difference, if anything it would reduce wear. The angles shown on that diagram are exaggerated, in reality the system only changes the rear wheel angle by < 1.5 degree.

Quite safe to go from OP lock to lock - the reaction time of the system is very fast.

    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you  
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'  
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
