heya,guys!!

Have a problem for which sometimes, the rear speakers disactivate and after a random amount of time, it comes back to operation.

i took the rear seats off and got this diagram....

Question

I don't know where the green line connects to (labelled "sr1" or the crossover on sr1).

I found the connections from the AMP to the Crossovers are ok.

I only suspect the negative terminal of bridge 2(there are 2 bridges) being a bit loose.

here is a diagram. I took the backseats off during the weekend where it was 43 deg celc cause i can't stand this!!!

what else should I check?

i suspect it's now the

1. connections on my amp ,OR

2. connections on the head unit

HELP!!!

Could be a short that is causing your amp to go into protect mode. Once upon a time... I used to have a set of 6x9's that used to make a short screech then stop for a bit, then come back on and do it again... turned out to be a problem with the coils in the speakers that were causing it.

See if you can turn the stereo on, and jiggle the wires, as there should be some indicator of protect mode on your amp that you should be able to see.

hey crimpage,

yeah, i didn;t seem to find any indicator on the amp(Alpine V220) but yeah, very strangely, when i put my volume above 13, it seems to cause this problem when i go on bumps but when playing on volumes below 13,it is ok. Weird thing is that sometimes, playing on volume 13 and above is fine!! Darn..

i am out of ideas...

Mate of mine has the same problem in his holden barina or something.

He has 3-month old speakers and an amp. 6x9 sony's in the parcel shelf and a sony 2-channel amp.

There's no lights to indicate that it is going into protect mode (which I suggested to him), and the front speakers don't cut out (running off HU).

It only happens 80% of the time he's going downhill... We lifted the parcel-tray up (it's a hatchback) and it didn't happen.

Read this post and thought "what are the odds!?"

Randy!

that's is the exact setup i have!!

My fronts are running off HU . For me i think your protect mode thought is true because when i put a little more volume, it cuts out on and off in the rear which is runned by the amp.

Weird is that when the car is stationary it is fine but when i m driving on flat ground and i increase the volume, the cut outs happen!! Oh man!!

i hate this!

where did you learn of this "protect mode"? Did ur amp have it?

My amps have always had it, but my mates little Sony amp doesn't have any LED's at all! I'm pretty sure any modern amp has a protect mode, but it seems that they don't all indicate when it is in effect.

When his cutout happens, it can stay off for quite a while.

I told him that his power could be shorting on the body... he has a large power cable from the battery to the boot, with an inline fuse. I mentioned that the voice-coils could be shorting on the speakers, but when we lifted the parcel tray manually, nothing happened.

I was going to loan him my amp to see if the problem persisted, but I don't think he wanted to go through that much effort.

I'm still leaning towards a speaker malfunction, which forces the amp to shut down. (protect mode).

  • 2 weeks later...

guys

for some weird reason , i dismantled the back seats again and moved the wires. So far, i can push the volume to 16 and no issues(touch wood)...

i was suspecting the "Gain" on the amp like one of you guys suggested but it's now workin'.

"If it ain't broken, don't fix it!"....

thank you ,everyone!!

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
