I was just wondering if there is anyway you can tell what model GTR or what year the an RB26DETT was built by looking at the engine alone?

is there anything in the engine number? or small differences btw R32, R33 & R34's?

also, if i put an RB26 in a 33gts-t, will there be any clutch change needed? I have a Jim Berry brass clutch in there right now (behind my RB25). will that bolt up the a RB26?

thanks for any help. Just looking into the possibility at the moment.

Berin

get a 33-26 or newer Berin :P

The 32R one isnt the best with the crank issue for the oil pump, and plus they are old.

I paid 4k for a "running" one with loom, etc etc but it was far from "running" (R32 one)

Your clutch etc, all fine. No problems there at all as mine gear all bolts up to my 26

I dont think via engine number, unless maybe that FAST software or whatever it is that everyone talks about could tell you what car its from?

good to hear i havent wasted money on my clutch.

also a good bit of info to look at the oil cap....something most people wouldnt know or look for.

there's a fair few RB26's from Japan that arrive here with "un-known" previous locations (32 or 33), just as engines alone.

any other info would be greatly appretiated. or any info regarding what to watch out for, tell tale signs of a high KM engine etc...

well im looking into getting another 33-t with a GTR motor in it already, so trying to find out its origins...sounds and drives like a healthy motor. fingers crossed!

any idea what the safe boost limit is on a stock RB26? I know i could do a search, but i'm lazy an cant be bothered sifting through the 15-20 pages that come up after typing in RB26....

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
