Sorry if this has been asked before.

I've done a search and found a bunch of varying answers so i thought the best way to get an answer more applicable to me is to post the question myself.

I have an R32 GTST with the following mods:

Hybrid FMIC

Full Turbo back exhaust

Air Filter

EBC

What kind of boost can i afford to run without killing my turbo and/or engine?

I have an EBC which has the "Self learning mode" and it has learned my boost with those mods at 0.75 BAR.

However I'm inclined to think it can run more - how much more is the question.

i dont think running over 14psi is a good idea, prolly even better off to stick to 13psi however once u go over 12 or so u will get boost cut and the car will shudder and kinda cut as u go up the rev range, dont ask me what to do about that cause thats where im at atm :D

I've run 15 psi just once with the stock turbo and a bigger fuel pump (040) and hybrid cooler...No RR just nice and harder acceleration.. But I wouldn't do it again for safety reasons. Most people dont go past 12 psi. I know someone who run 13 psi without a problem but he only drags, turbo is not on for more than 13 sec at a time.

It will vary depending the condition of your turbo and the dickhead head factor of just boost it and see what it feels like. . . .POP! It has benn well documented that the ideal boost is at 0.8bar on a standard turbo. If you go higher the thermal stress skyrockets and you only gain 3-4Kw per psi from here.

Before everyone goes rank : This is only my oppinion which gets proven to me day in day out with my mates 32 = breathing mods and cooler running 0.8bar remapped & tuned safely toasts a lot of 32's running one bar that that have the same mods but its all of the the shelf gear.

Proof enough that simple mods done right you will reep the rewards!

I was only able to run 12.5psi before the fuel pump began failing causing the car to lean out.

Don't just wind boost up, throw it on a dyno and ensure its all ok.

Tuning, no detonation, correct spark plug heat range and driving style (no track work) + a little luck is the key to having the stock turbo hang in there at 1bar for a long period of time. Failing to do so will kill the turbo.

Other than that I ran up to around 1bar with no issues, at first with a bleeder that caused boost to drop back to around 12psi, then an ebc that held boost @ 1bar, then a wastegate mode with no ebc that held boost @ 1bar.

In my case 178,000km's (111,000km's @ 1bar) before it was dropped on the rb30det that only required 9psi to make similiar (but still more) power.

After a total of ~195,000kms the turbo is still fine and feels better than some perfectly good r33 and r34 turbo's i've seen, I pulled it off in favour of a larger turbo.

I'll keep the stock rb20det turbo should I ever have to drop it back on for other reasons.

my theory is,its only a $300-400 turbo, get what you can out of it.

the quicker it blows,the quicker you'll have to get it hi-flowed

Case and piont of my above statement! Cubes suggests with careful balance of tuning and boost control enabled him to maintain a Bar of boost :P where as RSTME suggests just boost it and if it blows :) buy a new one, so it comes down to what your happy doing to your car.

    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny  
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again 
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
