on that note, i am very happy with the dual cores. I am able to do things that my old pc used to struggle to even try to do.

U can download something while loading other pages, start photoshop and still be running at full speed. It feels damn faster than a single core when u are doing 3 things at once....

thats still on air cooling thermaltake fan

@ idle it runs @ 3311.8 x14 multiplier 36deg C fans @ 1705 RPM

@ load it gets to 4021.5 x17 multiplier Fan upto 2550RPM

i havnt retested my 3dmark score will do that soon

Well i just got a 250 gig hdd for 135 bucks which is pretty damn good.

I remember when dad bought home a 40 mb drive and that was so cool.

It's not SATA or anything i didn't bother with that cos i'm running it as a backup drive with all my warez on it.

Now i'm just waiting for vista to come out so i can get a direct x10 videocard.

But now vista has been delayed to like febuary next year!

How far is safe for overclocking?

I over clock my VGA card a little, from 430 to 475mh speed and 1200 to 1275mhz, works fine and is stable, can go up past 500/1300 but I dont see the point. Its a Msi 7800GTX, and every option is turned up full!

Ive put more voltage thru my DDR2 567 ram 2 x 1gig sticks, but havent overclocked it that much, only now and then. Also put more voltage thru the P4 3.4ghz CPU, and now and then I'll clock it by around 3% to take it to a 3.5ghz. I can step it so that the mem gets clocked by the same amount, or not at all.

I run like 8 fans, lol, so yo can feel the heat when I do overclock everything.

I use the Gigabyte overclocking tool that came with the Mobo to clock the cpu and mem, and rivatuner or Nvidia options for the graphcs card.

so, is it safe to use the PC day in day out, running 3.5 in liue of 3.4ghz for the CPU, with the FSB at 205 rather then 200. I dunno........ its an expensive machine I built up, using sata raid with 2 x 200gig HDs and 1 backup standard sata 80gig HD. Good machine, dont want to ruin it prematurely, but would like max performance.

Yer I've had quite a few die, funny thing is its been over a number of years, right back to the old WD 20gb BB drive.

They are marginally quicker but the reliability and pain in the arse when it does go down isn't worth it.

How did your friends wd's die? Mine and family/friends wd drives lock the computer and go in to a loud retry spinup/down clicking/clunking type sound.

RE Overclocking: I don't like overclocking vid cards, the speed increase is not as high as overclocking the system and the chances of something buggering up is 10 fold. To be safe, stick to the system only.

I've never had a problem with WD. HDD brands don't really worry me that much. The HDD is still the weakest part in any system apart from the internet.

Also i bought the HDD down here in victor harbor and thats a pretty good price.

Overclocking vid cards most of the time give you the best performance boost in games, especially at higher resolutions. I use an app (eg ATI Tool) which automatically overclocks the video card to my settings when a D3D game is launched, and back to underclocked settings upon exit.

In regards to the WD drives, a few were not detected in BIOS anymore, others made funny sounds and others just randomly lost data/bad sectos. Heaps of shit really.

Tangles mine is a 3.4 also ... to be totaly frank with u a 100mhz is nothing nowadays mine speedsteps a shit load more than that from 3.4ghz under load to 2.8ghz whislt idle

ATM its running 4ghz with a thermaltake fan on the heat sink

but as its overclocked ATM the speedstep is 3.2ghz @ idle 46deg C and goes upto 4ghz 70deg C

hey nerdlingers :(

how do i hook up av's to a standalone monitor with the standard monitor plug thingy on it?

is it possible? or are the frequencys gonna be all out of wack ?

i wanna plug a dvd player or tuner into it.

i prefer to be known as a geek as being a nerd would imply im smart

as for hooking up AV to your monitor unless u have like a 2405 or 2407 dell (and im guessing they havem AV jacks) you cant

if u have a video capture card or good gfx card with VIVO u use s-video and audio jack converted from RCA to mini-jack 3.5mm

ocing the memory atm, and its the biggest pain in the arse i tell ya...

I do one thing which affects another, then something else happens....damn confusing for a noob at it. Ive read about 30 pages of how to's and they all dont tell u 100% of what u need to know...

if i was gonna use a gfx card i'd need to be running thru a pc.

i wanted to use the monitor on it's own.

i guess the only way is to buy one of those tuner things off ebay for standalone.

correct me if im wrong

this is your plug

01mini_dsub15-box-l.jpg

from that d-sub u cant plug a TV source into UNLESS youve got one of those 23-24" widescreen LCD monitors SUM of those come with RCA but of the top of my head i couldnt tell you which ones

why do you wish to bypass your PC

i made a little pic hope its not wot you allready know

Circles are my 2xVIVO ports Video In Video Out - on sum cheaper gfx cards you only get Video Out

the Rectangle is my video camera source so i can video edit

the Star is my Audio Line in from the Video Camera

is it that you only want to watch terestial tv on your pc so your thinking of setting up a settop box to your monitor? you can get a HDTV tunner card for your pc and they look great

yeah i already know about video and capture cards. lol

my pc is set up to do all that crap.

i have a spare monitor sitting around (with the plug type u showed), and thought it would be nice to have it set up as a spare screen for dvds or whatever else.

i saw one of those plugs, but i dont know that they will actually work with an dvd input signal. i think something about freq's or vertical / horizontal hold. not sure

    • Hi all,   long time listener, first time caller   i was wondering if anyone can help me identify a transistor on the climate control unit board that decided to fry itself   I've circled it in the attached photo   any help would be appreciated
    • I mean, I got two VASS engineers to refuse to cert my own coilovers stating those very laws. Appendix B makes it pretty clear what it considers 'Variable Suspension' to be. In my lived experience they can't certify something that isn't actually in the list as something that requires certification. In the VASS engineering checklist they have to complete (LS3/NCOP11) and sign on there is nothing there. All the references inside NCOP11 state that if it's variable by the driver that height needs to maintain 100mm while the car is in motion. It states the car is lowered lowering blocks and other types of things are acceptable. Dialling out a shock is about as 'user adjustable' as changing any other suspension component lol. I wanted to have it signed off to dissuade HWP and RWC testers to state the suspension is legal to avoid having this discussion with them. The real problem is that Police and RWC/Pink/Blue slip people will say it needs engineering, and the engineers will state it doesn't need engineering. It is hugely irritating when aforementioned people get all "i know the rules mate feck off" when they don't, and the actual engineers are pleasant as all hell and do know the rules. Cars failing RWC for things that aren't listed in the RWC requirements is another thing here entirely!
    • I don't. I mean, mine's not a GTR, but it is a 32 with a lot of GTR stuff on it. But regardless, I typically buy from local suppliers. Getting stuff from Japan is seldom worth the pain. Buying from RHDJapan usually ends up in the final total of your basket being about double what you thought it would be, after all the bullshit fees and such are added on.
    • The hydrocarbon component of E10 can be shittier, and is in fact, shittier, than that used in normal 91RON fuel. That's because the octane boost provided by the ethanol allows them to use stuff that doesn't make the grade without the help. The 1c/L saving typically available on E10 is going to be massively overridden by the increased consumption caused by the ethanol and the crappier HC (ie the HCs will be less dense, meaning that there will definitely be less energy per unit volume than for more dense HCs). That is one of the reasons why P98 will return better fuel consumption than 91 does, even with the ignition timing completely fixed. There is more energy per unit volume because the HCs used in 98 are higher density than in the lawnmower fuel.
    • No, I'd suggest that that is the checklist for pneumatic/hydraulic adjustable systems. I would say, based on my years of reading and complying with Australian Standards and similar regulations, that the narrow interpretation of Clause 3.2 b would be the preferred/expected/intended one, by the author, and those using the standard. Wishful thinking need not apply.
