Im getting 4 new K104's put onto my Stagea this weekend, $800 all up fitted balanced etc, for 235/45/17's onto my new R34 GTT rims - Im in SA by the way.

How long (ie kms) would a set last for? My Stagea isnt a daily driver, and when driven is usually in high density areas..... ie city driving. The Stagea is a heavy car, around 1900kgs with me driving it and fully fuelled - so how much PSI should be in each tyre?

For such a heavy car the K104's are the wrong load rating.

U will need the K107's. Check with the tyre shop who is supplying them.

Oh? ok, I think the car is around 1650kgs standard. And I know that a Stagea driver in Melbourne is using these hankook 104 tyres on R34gtt rims at the moment and says they are fairly good.

Plus the 104's are load rating 97Y I believe, whereas the basic tyres on my car atm are 92Y load rating, and it was given a road worthy certificate (in Qld when I bought the car) based on these current Nankang tyres.

The K107's are 94Y rating... so what is best? low Y or high Y rating? from what I understand the higher the Y the bigger the load capacity per tyre, see http://www.michelin.com.au/tyres/tyreBasics_speedRating.asp

At the end of the day the Stagea weighs in similar to a VS wagon, or a Magna wagon, so Im sure the 97 rating is aok. Plus from what Ive read they are worth the cash, so Im getting them anyways (plus my budget is a max of $200 per tyre, for 'performance' tyres).

So..... what PSI should I have in the tyre?

Cheers for your information - Brendan

I'd put them on.

I love them. I have travelled a lot of ks on my K104s.

They grip very well.

Tangles, you wont be dissappointed.

Especially considering the price.

If you are putting on 235 17s, let me know.

I'll get you a decent price over here in Mitcham.

BASS OUT

Cheers fellas (by the way Im in Adelaide, so Im not sure our Mitchem here near Unley is the place you mean Bass Junky).

K104's for 235/45/17 stated as 97Y

I already bargained the shop down a little in price; Im happy (sort-of) to fork out $800 for my first set of 17's provided they look phat on my porky-wagon, perform very well, good value for money, and last me a long time - I drive less than 8000kms per year.

The tread pattern seems fairly aggressive to me, and they have had good reviews here on SAU........... but it comes down to psi also at the end of the day, so that they perform and last well. I will slowly be adding SK's suspension parts over time, although I wont be lowering the car via springs/shocks. At this stage adding swaybars & castor, and will add subframe alignment kit & camber when I can afford to.

Cheers, Brendan

about $185 each....

Good pricing.......

I probably could have rung around more places and got them slowly down a bit, but how far do you go?!

Im sure they will be worth every dollar..... I hope. Im thinking start off with 36psi in each tyre and see how they wear and handle.

Never had 17inch mags before, cant wait to see how the GTT rims & 235wide K104 tyres look on the swett-as Stagea RB25det-smokin station wagon.

Cheers to you all, go the Crows.

    • Yeah but they dont look like this, which is GOOD.
    • What magic did you work to end up under half the amount you were quoted?
    • I only just let our 2007 (post face lift) GTB Wagon go. With 2.5 turbo, and 6 speed in it too. The Subarus, especially in GT guise are super nice cars. Great on the highway, and no matter what tyres, or what surface you're on, just throw them at a corner, and they go.   Unfortunately ours had a minor accident, I started repairing it, but priorities changed due to an opportunity that came up. Sadly, sold it to someone who just wants it for the drive line to swap into their WRX to replace the 5 speed in it with a 6 speed.   Definitely share more of the B4!
    • You're not the first person that's said that about this car lol. A Touring wagon GT in Spark yellow mica would be the dog's danglies 😆 I will keep an eye out for a future purchase for sure. The seats are almost like the OEM Recaros... electric adjustment for fore/aft and tilt movements except reclining.
