Hi,

In the next week or so i'm looking to buy a 32 gtr.

I know they're an awesome car and i also know they are aging but i haven't heard much about problems apart from the oil pump drive breaking. I'd be interested to hear any info from owners out there who have had any troubles.

Thanks in advance,

Stuart.

Ive had my 32 GTR for a few months and have replaced the ECU in it. Not too sure if thats a common problem with the 32's, but i know the Air Flow Meters are a fairly common problem. Engines are also getting old, and would probably be looking at a rebuild, especially if theyve been thrashed or driven uber hard in their liftime. Hopefully you find a car that the previous owner has already taken care of most of the problems the car may have had. This way you dont have to deal with many of them down the track. My knowledge with this vehicle is still very low sorry. Hope it helps though.

A dog is a dog, just cause its got a GTR badge on it dont think it cant be a lemon.

Engine/Turbo all you can do is check for excesive smoke from exhaust, check to see if timeing belt has been done, and if so the water/oil pump.

Driveline/Clutch check to see if clutch is holding up or slipping, change gears quite quick under load to see if syncros are ok.

Check brake disks for cracks.

One of my AFM's went in the first week.

Try and avoid 1989 GTR's if you can, most of the good ones are long gone.

A modified R32 costs about the same as a clean stock R33 , decide wehter you want the newer cleaner GTR or the modified faster one.

You can often get a FEEL for a cars state of health and condition by driveing it and giving it the once over, other than buying it from a dealer, thats about as good as it gets. GTR's with full service histories are rarer than a Honda Civic without a Mugen Power sticker... :D

    • I've replaced the front brakes of my NA to 324 brembos and 350z calipers: i'm going for 225/40-18 up front and 245/35-18 in the back. I have Rays 7.5*19 ET35(225/35) in the front with 5mm spacers otherwise the calipers "lock up/ won't rotate". When i use the calculator i come up with 8*18 ET30 for 225/40...... but not sure i get problems with the calipers. Anyone riding around with 18 inch. that can confirm "that it'll fit"? In the back it's 7.5*9 ET30 (245/30) with the 5mm spacers, but there is no problem with the standard small brakes, so i want to take 8.5*18 ET25 (245/35).
    • Lol.. but then.. always come back to a JDM..
    • Glad to hear. If possible, get your tuner to check air's to make sure everything is still where it should be.
    • The problem with FB/Insta/Reddit etc comments relating to cars is simple. You get to ask a question once, and get one round of replies. For things that can actually be answered in a few lines of text, once, it's fine. After 6 hours, your original question is lost to the void. There are no follow ups, additional questions, anything. No project car is ever such a simple list of questions to ask. You need discussion.
    • Welcome.  Here's what I have noticed about forum vs FB..... FB; seems to be wallet racing, and the same few questions asked over and over. There *may* be some groups that are closer knit, but most have changed for the worse. SAU; unfortunately, no longer in its glory days. But....genuine people with similar interests. Not all about how much you spent and saying you dont have enough power. Sooooooo much knowledge available. Have personally seen people post up about literally topics I made myself, asking on FB like no one has done it before. Most has been done, and most of that is here.   If you ever feel like just general chatting theres the wasteland.  Other interests are also generally covered in other areas of the forum. Hope you enjoy hanging around. We would love to have you.   P.s. nice 32 😀
