Just wondering if someone could possibly answer my question:

Would a properly installed catch can reduce the amount of 'black crap' spat out the exhaust? (ie. the stuff that accumulates on your rear bar), or is this simply just the exhausts job?

I was thinking that maybe if less oil vapour reached the engine, maybe it would reduces the amount shot out the exhaust?

Black crud is normally caused by excessively rich running, get the car tuned properly and it usually goes away. Other causes are letting the car idle to warm it up in the morning, sitting still in the garage or driveway. Also too large an exhaust pipe outlet, meaning the exhaust has no velocity at idle and, being hot, it climbs up the bumper.

 cheers

haha.. guilty on all three counts

- My car runs rich for safety sake

- I have remote start that I use to warm the car up a few minutes before leaving home.

- Big exhaust (5" or something silly like that!)

All of those points are a good reason why it's happening though! I guess I cant really complain that its happening then aye..
