Hi im wondering if u guys who r running a Power FC could advise on which type of boost controller would best suit it? Can I use it along with a manual type valve like a Turbotech or would it have to be an electronic type like the AVCR? There seems to be a huge difference in price between these types of valves so I would just like to know which would work best with it and why. Obviously the EBC type would allow adjustment from the cabin but what other advantages does it have and is it worth the money?

I would also like to find out if the Commander unit can double as a boost gauge amongst the other info it reads? On the Apexi Power FC specs http://www.apexi-usa.com/product_electroni...d=197&pageNum=1 it mentions that the Commander can display up to 10 parameters of data in real time. Boost is one of them so I assume that this means it basically reads current boost pressure. Reason im askin is I need to get a boost gauge as the stock one in the car is inaccurate but if the Commander doubles as one I could save myself the trouble.

Im still fairly new to the aftermarket ECU scene and am trying to find out as much as I can about it before I get one so any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

For the Apexi Commander to read boost, you would need the additional boost control kit that comes with the Power FC. However most people run a seperate boost controller, be it a electric, or a mechanical (such as Turbotech).

There's no shortage of information on mechanical Vs electric boost controllers. I am happy with my turbotech / PFC combo on my 180sx.

Boost display without the Boost Control Kit?

By default as the PowerFC will not show boost pressure as it has no method of reading it in via the stock ECU loom. If you purchase a suitable map sensor and connect it to the PowerFC boost control kit port then the hand controller will display boost pressure. The boost control kit uses a Denso map sensor which is part #DPS 310 2000a - Denso 949940 6270 5V and the wiring loom cable/plug can be brought from Apexi which is around $40 AU. The cable is listed as the 3pin boost control harness. Nengun has this listed under Electronics -> Apexi -> D Jetro Option Parts

We use the Power FC Boost Control Kit, works a charm, no ricey blue screen or other crap to clutter up the cabin. Plumb it up, plug it in and punch up the desired boost level on the Commander and away you go.

The EBC kit that is an optional xtra for the PFC is a rather expensive kit at $440 although im sure some will argue that u get wot u pay for. I may opt for a manual type control valve at this stage and perhaps move onto a EBC when i can afford one.

As for the Commander reading boost, im gathering from wot Paul said, that u will need to get a MAP sensor & wire one in for this function to work. 2 bar MAP sensors ~$139

So ill probably be better off to just get a separete boost gauge and forget about trying to use the Commander to double as my gauge. Where does the sensor for a boost gauge go?

The same place as the boost kit one would go, tap into the manifold vacuum lines.

Closer to the actuator input signal would be ideal. Also it is very useful on the hand controller as you have logging ability and history view and also can display it in real time with other values next to it.

IMHO it would be much more useful on the hand controller than on a seperate guage in the pillar or somewhere else

    • Hi all,  I am in the market for an R200 longnose diff out of a Z31 300ZX, or S12 RSX, DR30 skyline, or similar, in a 3.9 ratio.  Preferably a late model one with the M12 crownwheel bolts.  The only easy to find advert for one of these was my ad back in 2007 when I sold it on this forum.  I sold the diff as I had sold the car it goes to, but as it turns out, after 18 years I got the car back late last year, so now I'm looking for the diff !  If anyone knows where to find a longnose R200 LSD with the M12 crownwheel bolts, drop me a line at [email protected] - Bonus paid if soomeone comes up with the original diff (stranger things have happened !).  Cheers   Ben D    
    • Hi everyone, I used to post here a bit from 2004-2013, when I owned various Nissans, in particular my S12 RSX gazelle, which was sold in 2007.  As luck would have it, after an 18 year hiatus, the car found its way back to me last year, and over the past 11 months I have had the pleasure of restoring it with my kids.  One thing that I am after in particular is a 3.9 ratio R200 LSD for it.  I actually sold the one out of the car here back in 2007 , and it would be incredible if I could track down who I sold it to, so I can see how they have progressed over the years (and to be honest, to see whether I can get the diff back !).  Anyways, hi all and let me know "where are the R200 Longnose diffs all at these days ?  Cheers Ben D  
    • Arms will be the same as the G35 or 350Z, but as above, there was a change in the lower control arm where it connects to the ball joint.  That said, you can remove the ball joint cone from your old ball joints and fit them to the new ball joints.  To be honest, I didn't think the ball joints themselves were different. The main ball joint is a bit awkward to replace, you really need to remove the steering knuckle to press out the old one.  Some people have used tools to remove it in place, but it just seemed too hard to get to. If you are going to press out/in that ball joint, then you may as well just replace the bushings in the LCA and the compression rod.  You can buy the compression rod bushing from Nissan, but the LCA bushes, you will need to go aftermarket. Much cheaper than buying the whole arm.
    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
