been talking to a few lads (names hidden to protect the dodgy) about water/methanol injection systems.

the boys are saying that a good injection system (couple of injectors into plenum) will lower intake temps more efficiently than spending $$$ on bigger intercoolers. given our usual climate is 15 - 35 degrees - it kinda makes sense. yet i see very little about this on the net.

costs are about the same as a decent intercooler. ie good quality pump, couple of good injectors, thermo sensor to trigger injection, and water/methanol storage bottle. - less than $1000 and the word is more effective in our climate.

any thoughts?

particularly re the effects of water and/or methanol in the engine - supposed to be small doses, but could imagine a malfunction dumping too much could be ugly.

In a volvo turbo, the temp of the air after the turbo was dropped by a cool 15 degs after adding the water injection kit(i think it dropped from 65 to 50 degrees? If i remember correctly). And in a climate like Singapore, where it's purpetually 33degs avg in the day. It's substantial.. you can really feel the extra oomph.

When u buy a kit, make sure the kit has a solenoid (normally closed solenoid) to prevent leaking, cause the cheaper more dodgy kits uses the pump to control flow. This is very very impt!!! Esp if u're doing direct injection to the manifold and not after the intercooler.

A better kit has a boost sensor built in and u can set the injection to activate when you're in boost. A good kit allows variable injection rate that can be mapped to ur rpm, and engine load.

Had a friend who bought a dodgy kit, left his engine dead. That should say a lot. Prepare to pay about $600 usd for a good kit. Well.. kinda top of the line kit.

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that 
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
