Need Help!

hi guys iv got an r32...and i want to lower it...but i dont want coilovers id rather some springs and shocks...i have looked at the group buy for the bilsteins and im just wondering what my other options could be...iv called up peddars and they gave me a price of 880 and they tell me that it will lower the car just a touch lower than it is...they said they couldnt help me with any lower.....what do u guys all run? just some opinions and stuff would help me heaps...im pretty confused....how come i can lower it any more at peddars? i want the standard wheel to fill the gaurd more.....

any help would be appreciated thanks, anthony

IMO I think it would come down to what you want from your car.

You said you want to just fill the guards a bit.

But is that all you care about?

If you want your car to handle well I would stay well away from pedders.

I wanted my car to keep its stock appearance, so I got some stiffer springs (stock height) and new pedder shocks (as the old ones were stuffed).

But now that I have, strut brace, underbody brace, castor kit, sway bars and polyurethane bushes. The pedders shocks are really letting me down, the handling feels 'nervous' under hard cornering and there is way to much body roll when the shocks go off.

If you want performance, stay away from pedders.

well i was thinking coilovers but then i jumped in a mates 32 with teins...and i find them really stiff ...i was after maybe a little softer...so thats y i was thinking springs and shocks.....not sure what to go for...

Hi Antz,

Just going through the same process with my 33GTST.Currently have bilsteins with stock springs.Everything else is whiteline.I added each part seperately to judge their value and every part contributed to an improved ride.The car is so precise compared to the wife`s 33.But I would have to tell you the bilsteins were the biggest disappointment.When they were new I sometimes thought the dashboard was going to fall out on my lap.They seem to feel every little bump on the road, and when they are cold are simply unforgiving.

really? can anyone confrim this on the bilsteins...a second opinion or something...i heard th ride comfort isnt too bad

Well the Bilsteins in the new MX-5 are firm but comfortable. OK its a different car... much lighter... but I think the dampers are an equivalent model. I found there was a run in period, but I think it is similar for all dampers...

Shocks, springs, swaybars, and bushes all went in on Friday. My impressions... the car is really tight and firm, no more jiggling or squeaking over ripples. It feels like the springs and shocks are doing the work now as the bushes no longer bounce.

On larger bumps, pot holes and high speed undulations the car doesn't bottom out, clunk or crash onto the bump stops.

It makes for a great drive on the street, you can feel the road and everything is very direct, so it is far from being a luxurious ride. Still far better than the aged Japanese gear that was under my car previously.

In terms of handling, like lingeringsoul, I went to Wakefield on Sunday too. It was my first time out and I managed a 1:18.2570 on street tyres, the car was very progressive and felt great through the high speed corners as well and putting the power down through the slower stuff.

I love it!

You need to be very carefull what part numbers you sellect as the valving is different. That is why I spent 3 months engineering the Group Buy kits. PM me and I will try and help you out.

Hi SK,

I bought these parts 100,oooK`s ago.As I said I am very happy with all except the shocks.I am sure at the time Whiteline may not have perfected the performance over sharp bumps or potholes.I will try another combination soon then if you don`t mind I`ll get you to breathe your magic into the bilsteins.By the way,I don`t want ANTZ to think that SK`s shocks are the same as whitelines although Whiteline would do well to listen to his advice because I`ll never buy another shock absorber off them.

Take my advice if you want to but I think the bushes and stablizer bars made the biggest difference.

From what people say here Sydney Kids combo seams to work well on the street.I judge a good combination by how well it can take rough corners and pot holes so I may not be the best person to ask.Just don`t go too low or too hard in the shock as jumping a metre across the road on a rough corner isn`t fun.
