well im only going for about 220kw

so im sure the GTR intercooler will be ok

the guy told me (who was trying to sell me the package for 2100) said that he GTR cooler wouldnt be any good

but it would have to be better than the standard cooler

where would be a good place that could fit this for me and supply the pipping

On the subject of coolers...all you guys n' gals out there who have FMICs fitted to 32GTT's :

Do you run your return piping (from the cooler) back through the original intake pipe (across the top of the RB20), or do you run it to a forward facing plennum?

I'm wanting a FMIC and I'm trying to work out any additional costs.

Thanks,

Michael

the point we are trying to make here is that running the standard turbo on high boost with the standard intercooler is an in-efficient package where much more gain can be achieved by running a FMIC and at lower boost.

As sydneykid said, the standard turbo has a ceramic turbine wheel which can't hold very much heat for long periods of time, therefore, running the standard turbo in it's in-efficiency range would allow it to push a larger volume of air although at a very high temperature, and given that the factory intercooler is not good enough to cool that hot air, you're not doing the engine a favour.

Also, if u can't hear it ping (even at 20psi), it doesn't mean it's not doing damage. found this out through personal experience.

always make sure there is enough fuel supply and appropriate octane fuel is being used when running hi boost.

You can't run the std turbo on 'high boost' anyway (if by high boost you mean 12+psi).

Keep the stock cooler unless you ugpgrade the turbo or circuit race (I don't think the std turbo will do that for long anyway).

The best intercooler upgrade for the stock turbo is the Trust R-spl core direct factory replacement for about $1k, or an R34GTT one (same dimensions except much thicker). The extra tubing and volume of most fmic's reduce the engine response on the stock turbo.

Ive done some reading on alot of the Japanese kits for the R32 such as Trust, HKS, BLitz etc... All of them make use of the original piping to the front bumper. So they have a length of tube that runs across the length of the core (usually the bottom from what ive seen) to a 90 degree exit end tank.

The good thing about this is that you can pretty much do your intercooler piping for alot less than say Silvia or 180SX owners, with about 1.5 metre of straight pipe and a handfull of bends.

Some aussie kits ive seen (UAS i think) use the stock intake plenum so the pipe goes across the top of the motor, then it goes back across the motor again and down through what i think is just beneath the battery area. This involves much more custom piping. And looks alot less "stock" when cops pop the bonnet.

Personally, im keeping the standard pipes to the front bumper and just extending as required.

Whoa this discussion has certainly changed direction. Lucky for me i have an aftermarket turbo...and i'm running about 12-13psi with the std cooler. Hopefully i'll upgrade the cooler in the next month or so...i know a guy who is selling fmic for R32's for $500, and that's with a PWR core.

who has these intercoolers ?

i have a high flowed r32 RB20det turbo on the said motor running 13psi thru the stock cooler, i find that it just heat soaks and pisses me off... some nites the inlet temp sits at 49deg c

i am lookin for a FMIC.....

    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
