I know this is a skyline appreciation forum but i have always been open minded about cars. If the XR6t had been around when i bought my GTS25t i would have had a much more difficult time deciding on buying my skyline.

In the following link they say that with a couple of tweaks and some extra boost you get 252rwkw out of the XR6t. How tuff is that. Also they say that 300rwkw would be a "doddle", that will really put the wind up someone driving a HSV with 300 flywheel kw.....

I think it is impressive that a local manufacturer has finally come up with a MODERN performance car. None of this single cam push rod junk but a really serious peice of gear. Mind you dont get me started on how the intercooler is plumbed because that really was a MAJOR COMPROMISE.

bolting on a turbo doesn't instantly makes it a well refine sportcar as a skyline. but it does help the falcon street cred though. if u get a chance hurl one into a sweeper at the same rate as u would do in a skyline and see how much room there is left in ur undies. It's still a family car in the end.

Hungry 6 have you tried driving one????

It is more of a family car than a race car (skyline being a race car of course) as such it will weigh more.

I personally hate the way the intercooler/ inlet manifold/ turbo is piped because it is a compromise. BUT you cant argue with a family car that pulls 240kW running 6psi which is heavily detuned. Oh by the way can your car seat 4 people as comfortably as a XR6t???

I took one for a run and i was surprised at how the suspension combined with the traction control made the car stick under serious accelaration through some cornering. The sales person did get a bit edgy at times but i assured him that i was looking at upgrading from the GTS25t to a family car with some go (cough cough like hell i was).

They didnt JUST bolt on a turbo if you check the specs they also dropped the static compression ratio and did a lot of heat shielding among other things.

My mate works for the company that makes Ford's transmissions, and agrees the manual is at an end for torque handling, they have been leaning on it for years and keep asking to do what it was never designed to do, with this in mind the 5 spod doesnt do that bad a job.

He has worked primarily on the auto, and with him having driven my 32 GTST many times when im pissed and egging him on, he has a good idea what my car can do.

For the record the guy isnt full of BS, and claims despite the weight of the car, and saloon heritage, the development mules that he R & D flog my GTSt in accelaration, have great brakes, and handle great. He says with the handling you just have to be mindful the it is a production car with a pretty hefty kerb weight, so no brakes/heavy acceleration mid corner/ebtry to corner etc, be smooth and it can do the job. Hell he has driven the thing on great ocean road.

I've heard from a few sources that the XR6t has a boost limit of 7psi.

Once it hit's 7psi the ECU starts to pull back timing and then starts the boost cut - just like some R33 gts-t's hit at 12psi.

If this is true, it'd be a pain in the butt to go to a full ECU change on such a modern car for a few extra psi :D

They are nice cars though. Boss at work has a blue one... Nice......

There was a good article in the last HPI comparing the XR6 Turbo to the Supra. They said "The closest thing to a Japanese car to come out of Australia. We can't praise the XR6T any more than that".

I think the guy doing the review was a little biased as he owns a Supra, but hey, what can you do?

The writer goes on about how the 2JZ-GTE is the greatest and most proven engine of all time, whereas the 240T still has to prove it's self. "The few players in the aftermarket who have tested the 240T engine have come away confused and frustrated with an uncooperative managment system, and intercooler/exhaust systems that are far from optimum".

Apparently the LPG spec rods are a must for a serious build-up.

They also said that the Ford doesn't like to be revved!

All in all though, I think Ford is onto a good thing. However, if I was looking for a sporty family car, I'd still by a WRX!

Firstly it is a 4ltr. Motors with large swept capacity dont need to rev much because the have bulk torque early on in the rev range where as my RB25DET needs to be revved to get any go out of it.

For a sporty family car i would think it is ideal because you get a large turbo six with auto. You can be as lazy as you want to be and you can seat 4 passengers with large arses comfortably.

    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.      
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
