yet another B.S. response - in other words nothing is going to eventuate for at least another 12+ months (if ever)

Would love to know more about the progress of the proposed alternative facility.

I have sent numerous emails, and made phone calls to the AIR Track Manager each time to be told the same response. "we just need to get the resurfacing sorted/going and it will be up and running in about 3 months" - which has turned into many years.

They have proven again and again they don't care about getting the track up and running to help out SA public. They'll do it when they can get the job done on the cheap (i'm guessing fitting inbetween downtime from other jobs to keep costs down) which is utter BS. IF they were serious they could pay a crew to come and re-surface it in a matter of weeks-month and have it up and running

Moving it to the delete bin takes 2 seconds. :D

I'd love to go drag racing at AIR again (sold my drag bike because of this BS), but I'm not holding my breath anymore. Bring on the new facility (fingers crossed).

thats where ive seen you from before....i thought i recognised your face when we were at villi's last night...i used to be a scrutineer at AIR....then do bracket marshalling...i recognise you from a few drag meets....i see Toni still campaigns his angry mosquito bike around the place.....I'd love to go back to working there....now i have a car capable of 13-14 sec quarters i wanna go racing too....plus my missus wants to race her falcon

Is that the orange one that has done a few thousands passes at AIR?

He was at every meet I raced at.

Ah ha! It was nibbling at me where I'd seen you from? :)

Yeah, the good old days when Adelaide had a drag strip! Ended up selling my drag bike to build a track bike ... got into some knee-down action for the last couple of years. Broke my shoulder in a smash February 2008 and haven't raced since (but did a few track days after, then sold the bike some months ago). I even had my yellow (at the time) Suzuki TLR out on the drag strip cutting some 11 second passes quite a few times. Wasn't bad for a 196kg v-twin lump :) Back in the day when the jap bikes were spanking the harleys :P

OK guys I have had a development on this issue... :(

I have been contacted by Scott Ferguson (Drag Racer) about getting involved with the planning of a protest at Parliament house.

Due to me being in Sydney and a meeting being held about it tonite to plan the Protest . Would someone be interested in attending tonite?

If this gets off the ground and the protest is planned it's your time to get up and show SA that enough is enough we want a flippin DRAG STRIP BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

I was thinking Ruby, Shane (RBWARE) or Pete would be excellent ones to attend if willing???

If this protest is going to happen we need to get the word out to as many people as possible to get them to attend and make a stand!

I will fly over from Sydney to be there for this protest! :P

Jess, when and where is this pre-protest meeting? I might have some free time. In any case, I thought there was the meeting about it at Shannons yesterday?

For a quicker reply, please call me on 0449 928 227.

Ruby

Cheers Ruby PM has been sent!!!

I know Pete ;) I have only been contacted and told about it today as well!!

If this is going to happen I will be coming to SA a bit more! Want to get this off the ground! Been way to long and absoulte Bulls**t :P

Need a DRAG STRIP IN SA !

Finally at least something is getting done about this track

Don't go counting your eggs just yet. This is just another battle ... not necessarily the end of the war.

Jess, I've given Scott a call and he's happy for me to attend this meeting tonight. He's going to put forward their plan to get the Govt's attention that there are investors ready to go with re-opening AIR ... and the Consortium would also like to hear from representatives of some import clubs.

I'm happy to give him my input. There may be a slower but more stable way to tackle this ... as I work in the planning industry and there are ways to get your message up the channels. Wherever I can help I will.

I'll post up tomorrow a summary of what was discussed and what is planned.

:D

Just a quick correction re the above post.

This is not about re-opening AIR. This is for the proposed Pt Adelaide venue. Yesterdays meeting was for 1320 Motorsport Inc. Tonight's is purely a logistical/planning meeting (dates/venues etc.) for the public meeting, then followed by the protest.

I'll let RubyRS4 get back to you all tonight/tomorrow with the full story :(

i believe parafield is getting shutdown in the future due to funds and no doubt will be bought out and used for more mawson lakes developments

Yep sounds more like it....sucks as the airstrip there is in decent condition and can easily be used as a 1/4 mile track....if someone invested in it that way

But the developers will have more of a say and ohh we can build another 50+ houses and make 1 bajillion dollars

Where did you hear that? :P

UniSA run its pilots courses there, as do other schools. They would always need the arispace to divert small aircraft to as a secondary runway if an emergency ever occurs at Adelaide Airport. Plus there are numerous light commercial aircraft still using that site privately. If it ever was up for sale, it would be bought up as an Airpark, similar to what is going on down at Goolwa.

Yep there is a plan to shut down parafield airport and move the secondary air port to murry bridge.

The engineering lecturers at UniSA mentioned that it's been in the pipeline since the late 80's and now that mawson lakes is up and running it'll happen

    • Well, yes, every CU on the bus is available via the Consult port, but whether the scanner you are using is capable of talking to the TCU, the ABS/TCS modules, etc etc, is what is at question here. Many of them are only for engine codes. So, if you have one of those, you won't know if the ABS is having a bitch.
    • That's now. R chassis Skylines come from a time when the tolerance in the ADRs was a bit more....slack. My car, on 235/35-17, which is damn near the exact same size as the original 205/55-16, is pretty much bang on correct indicated speed across the whole legal range. That's demonstrated with constant speed run over 5km, and GPS speed. It's just the luck of the draw. My particular speedo head has to be the thing that is "calibrated" that way, because everything else (the diff ratio, the gearbox and the speedo drive**) are all same same as most other Skylines. **OK, so the speedo drive is a Navara unit to drive the R32's cable, not the electronic unit than an R33/4 would normally have with teh same gear on it. Otherwise, I applaud your OCD tendencies, and I would do the same if I needed to.
    • Not too sure, I believe the Nissan consult port does everything? Also just filled up the reservoir to full and the light is still on. The float seems to move up and down fine.
    • The speedo's can be very conservative, when my Mazda NC MX5 speedo is showing 118kph, the GPS, and a calibrated radar.... cop mate.....hits me at around 110kph +/- 1 or 2 kph, and that is on a 215/45 17, stock tyres size is 205/45 17 as well, so weirdly conservative with stock tyre size When my Commodore speedo red 116kph GPS had me at 110kph on 255/40 17, so again conservative Google says manufacturers need to set the speedo from 4 to 10% slower than actual road speed.....for safety.....and compliance  After doing some offset and clearance measurements to see what can fit the NC on 17x8 +40, without guard rolling or rubbing anything at my current ride height, I've decided that when my tyres are toast, I'm going to fit 225/45 17 and see where that gets me IRT actual speed of my speedo and GPS/radar From the online calculator I should be still be doing around 5kph under an actual 110kph when the speedo is showing 110kph My ADHD requires that when I'm doing 110kph on the speedo, that the actual road speed is actually really close to that, and not alot slower And going from 205 to 225 still keeps the car within the %/mm allowable in the NSW vehicle rules and regulations, which is nice, as long as I'm looking at the latest version that is.....LOL https://www.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-02/RMS-13.464-Light-vehicle-modifications-Vehicle-Standards-Information-No-6-November-2013.pdf
    • Take the value it measured as, and pick the closest range available that is above the reading on the screen.   Also, no point just testing the coils. Read what has been said again. You need to test all your wiring, everything.
