[200]
Hey, I'm looking at starting go-kart racing as I'm sick of doing nothing on my days off work. Does anyone here race or could give some pointers about getting started up? I am looking at probably buying an Arrow Kart, AX8 28-30 As seen here And a Yamaha KT100S motor... My only concern is that i'm quite tall (194cms) and not too sure about how I would fit. If someone has some info on licences too than that would help. Thanks. Go straight to your local Kart Club for all your info! As for the height ....... well it all depends on how supple you are. I'm 180 and had little trouble. Arrow make an extended front bar etc which shifts the pedals further away. If you go that route, you will need to buy the longer floor pan as well. cheers Muz Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/137012-go-karts/#findComment-2555013 Share on other sites
tacker
Mate you might struggle with the KT 100 engine better to go with electric start engine or get this one converted. I am currently driving a 32 HP Biland twin cylinder 250cc 4 stroke and they are great fun or the smaller but stronger rotary engine which is 52 HP and 180 kg weight kart and driver plenty of brown pants moments in that little beast Edited October 18, 2006 by tacker Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/137012-go-karts/#findComment-2595172 Share on other sites
Turbo Tim
There is a dedicated kart forum here.. http://www.kartingaustralia.com.au/forum/index.php As for the height, no idea, im the opposite end of the scale, over 1 foot shorter than you! How much do you weigh is going ot be relevant to class. Also look at something which is raced competitively locally. Licences are just a case of paying money. I think its cheapest in qld at $240 or $260 (one of the two)+ club membership. They are fairly expensive, but more comprehensive than a cams 2s or similar. Once again chassis size (e.g 28/30 etc) will depend on class and height. I wouldnt go rush out and buy brand new gear, just because a brand new S motor isnt going to be competitive without blueprinting, something used and proven might be better there. That said you would want something competitive and not some rubbish that someone is trying to offload on ebay. Best bet would be to find a local kart shop or go to the track and talk to people. Where are you locateD? Edited October 19, 2006 by Turbo Tim Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/137012-go-karts/#findComment-2596987 Share on other sites
tacker
And if you are going to get a used KT engine check the piston size as it may be up into its last size piston and then its a new barrel. And make sure it is a sellect barrel or you are going to be a few hp down. If you can get it get very low port timing and close splits in the two port timings Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/137012-go-karts/#findComment-2597017 Share on other sites

Sammie
hey there i been racing for about 4 years now quite competitvely travelign to differnt major meets around aust id suggest you go for a class which would hav the most numbers, as the guy was sayign he races a biland depending where you are you wont get as many people racing id reccomend either the J class Senior national light or heavy or Clubman light or heavy i currently race in clubmant light as i belive its the most competitive classes out there or one of them. to date my best finish would be 6th in the 05 nationals in western australia, this is a pic of me in the wa states 3 weeks ago Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/137012-go-karts/#findComment-2619092 Share on other sites
MBS206
Karting. Absolutely the most fun you can have without going insanely quick. Have you driven a go-kart yet? It's totally different to driving a car (Thrown around, bumps etc) If you're in Sydney/Wollongong area, head up to the picton race way.
