Hi everyone!

Can someone please point me in the direction of an extrude honing service in Adelaide?

They are quite elusive, white and yellowpages search didn't come up with the goods.

The only company that I can find on the net is Abrasive Flow Engineering in Sydney.

I hope someone can help.

:D

In case anyone is interested, I was just quoted $650 from Abrasive Flow Engineering to extrude hone my standard RB25 exhaust manifold.

They told me they have done them before, and have increased their flow capability from ~130cfm to ~170cfm.

Not a cheap exercise! Nuts

In regards to my setup, since it is the only part of the exhaust tract that has not been modified (ie. enlarged), I'd expect some power gains, how much remains to be seen.

Say you have a setup with a standard exhaust manifold that is pushing the turbo to its limit at the top end, with boost falling off near redline, would this mean that most of the gains from extrude honing be made in the midrange?

What do you guys think?

Cubes, like anything, they are good up to a point. They are certianly good for response. Either way by getting an aftermarket one you are only gaining say, 5% power at the very best so value for money aint there and you have to deal with the tradeoffs (heat/not stock looking/worse response for equal lengths etc).

Turbo Tits, if boost is falling away its more likely the compressor is running out of puff. The manifolds increase the engine's volumetric efficiency, rather than the turbo's capabilities. There might be some gains to be had on the midrange but who knows... Remember you can have the primaries as large as you like but the exhaust pulse still has to squeze thru the relatively squashed turbine housing. Sorta like a storm drain with a garden spray jet on the end.

Just a quick update.

I got in touch with Andrew from Specialised Power Porting in Victoria. He's asking $550 for his extrude honing service. Sounds like a great guy, really helpful and willing to chat.

General turnaround time is 2 weeks. But he said if you call a few days in advance and let him know when the manifold will arrive, he can pencil in into his workload and can have it done in a few days.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
