Hey all,

I just recently noticed that my car is getting hard to start...

On friday night it just couldnt start at all....i thought it was the alarm so the alarm guy came out, and we successfully started it with jumper leads....

I then bought a new battery, a bit bigger one, and this morning it was very hard to start again..

it would have to be either electrical or fuel....i checked out the fuel, and its there, its getting the fuel....so even with a new battery it would have to be electrical right?

has anyone else had this problem?

it starts cranking, and just cranks for a long time and u gotta do that for maybe 2-3 minutes off and on for it to hopefully start.

could ultra tune maybe fix this?

cos i dont have time to take it to HILLS cos i need the car this weekend, and theres an ultra tune near work...

thanx

doesnt it cheese you off that it takes you ages to start the car and youre nearly draining the battery everytime u do it...?

i might just take it to Hills and live without it for the time it takes Mark to figure out what it is, unless he already knows what it is...

Ill let u know either way.

When it cranks, does it crank slowly?

My guess is that something is draining the battery when you leave the car, and making it hard to start later on. But, when you leave it off for just a few seconds, it'll restart no problems because it hasn't had time to drain the battery.

Use a multimeter and check if there is significant current flow from the battery when the car is off.

No, it cranks very fast..specially with the new battery.

i just rang Mark from Hills and within 2 seconds he said "Fuel pressure regulator" i went to Hills on my lunch break and dropped the car off...

Hopefully pick it up tomorrow or if Mark is too busy, on tuesday.

Ill give ya all the rest of the details when i get the receipt.

Thanx all for your replies

I've got the same problem.

My initial thought was the injectors but after reading the post, the fuel pressure regulator makes sense too.

If this is the case, would it be affecting the car in any other way ie performance ??

Be interested to see your comments when you pick the car up Diabolik.

Please inform us of price too.

I made a post about 2-3 months ago about my car sometimes just losing power.....in 4th gear driving about 60, and then accelerating slowly to around 70 it would lose power for about half a second and then get back on its feet...that i bet was due to this aswell...

also while driving to work yesterday and to Hills, the engine died once while i was at the lights, and lost power for a second about 2-3 times...so it was really starting to get bad.

ill let ya know all the details as soon as i get the car back...i miss it already...im driving around in my gf's dad's V8 statesman, so if u see an ugly statesman give one of you guys in your skylines a thumbs up...dont swear at me and say hello back, heheh

Hey,

Well after a week of my car being at Hills, its fixed and i will be on my way to pick it up in 2.5 hours.

It ended up being the ECU.

It wasnt getting a cold start signal, and it wasnt getting fuel..

Theyve changed the Fuel Pressure regulator, but the problem still happened, and after changing the ECU with a new one, prob was fixed.

So if anyone else is having the same problem, check this out...

Thanx again.

    • That's not a transistor --- it's marked ZD1 which makes it a zener diode. As to what the breakdown voltage is, not enough there to divine.
    • Hi all, Long time since I've posted here. Looking for some advice on what I can remove to further identify the cause of my issues.  I can move the passenger seat forward and back but the knob used to adjust the seat angle is pretty much free spinning, there's very little resistance.  Removing the side cover I can see that the chain is intact but the shaft for the adjustment spins without the gear attached to it moving.  What's my next step for disassembly here? Is this a common fault? Just being a little cautious as I didn't want to start removing bolts for a spring to fly out or something equally as stupid.  Cheers
    • The incentives are mostly the same, yes. Ethanol is cheap compared to the cost of doing 98-100 RON with crude oil alone. 87 to 93-94 AKI all with E10. In 2020 Canada mandated E10 as a part of their "renewable fuel standard" and is supposedly going to go to E15 in 2030. In California where there are only 8 refineries with two threatening to shut down next year it's been over 20 years now of E10 and 91 AKI maximum because there's just not enough refinery capacity or crude oil supply relative to the demand for premium unleaded fuel. And CARB's low carbon fuel standard means functionally none of the diesel available at the pump is made from crude oil anymore. It's almost all entirely 20% biodiesel blended with 80% renewable diesel (hydrotreated vegetable oil) now. The number of gasoline vehicles that support E15 or higher ethanol concentrations is surprisingly low, I can't imagine it being wise to play tricks like this without flex fuel sensors in most of the fleet.

    • South Australia, which is hardly as far behind as the rest pf Oz makes out, and who is also not a paragon of progressiveness (read that as over-legislation) in the area of vehicle standards, has this to say on the subject: Adjustable coil-over suspension Aftermarket adjustable coil-over suspension components are suspension units that incorporate an external thread on the main body and corresponding threaded spring saddle that allows the vehicle's suspension height to be varied. If fitting aftermarket or coil-over suspension components you must submit an Application to modify a light motor vehicle form and a report from a light vehicle engineering signatory (LVES).
