Hi dudes, I have just finished installing a JVC KW-AVX700 unit into my R32. JVC have built in a "feature" that won't allow a viewable playback unless the handbrake is applied. However, it is also stated that the warning won't appear unless the handbrake and JVC unit are physically wired up to eachother.

The instructions say the following:

"If the parking brake is not engaged, "Parking Brake" appears on the monitor, and no playback picture will be shown. This warning appears only when the parking brake wire is connected to the parking brake system built in the car."

The funny thing is that I didn't hook the wire to the handbrake so the warning should be disabled. Furthermore, I am still getting the warning even when I do apply the handbrake.

Any ideas? It would be sh*t to have an incar DVD if you can only watch it when the car is completely stationary....

your park brake sensor on the unit should be looking for a negative signal.

Just ground that wire from the head unit to a good source of negative ( chasis) and you should be fine.

righto... i earthed the park brake wire and now it's fine... thanks all for your help...

..phew!!

i know.... i knew there had to be a way around it... just glad it was so simple... imagine having the unit without being able to have the video clips running while your driving... or going for a trip with your mates and telling them they could only watch the display at the traffic lights... pfft...

thn imageing being distracted by the same uint and running over a pedestrian. thats the reason it is there :P

LOL i know its not funny but this guy got the sack from JB-HiFi for not connecting it to the park brake signal... we use to make customers sign an document if they wanted it done with the wire striaght to negative, it said something like "we are connecting this to the park brake signal wtf you do with it after is your business" something like that to keep us from getting sued in an "unlikely" event just like Chris stated...

If it is an indash monitor you might want to hook up a switch somewhere so the PoPo cant get you for it too.

bit of an overkill don't you think....? just risk it and turn it on to radio if you get pulled over... fairdinkum...

ive got a miriad of switches i call 'cop switches' that i just bang to the up position when i go past cops... saved me a few times...

the best thing to do is to get a two phase switch and ground one end, and send the other to the hand brake so if you ever do get shit about it, just flick the switch to handbrake mode... sup to you though...

got a diagram to show me...? Do i still ground the handbrake wire from the back of the HU or do i rig it up properly to the handbrake then use the switch to ground it while the handbrake is off??

that diagram took me 2 hours, so i hope you appreciate it!

go to jaycar, DONT SHOW THEM THAT, they will laugh at you, tell them what you wanna do and what kind of switch you need, then wire the ground from the head unit to the single input, then ground one of the outputs, and wire the other to the ground cable on the handbrake...

finding a suitable place for the switch is always fun... i got 5 wittle ones in my drink holder :ninja:

I just realised that I didnt even attach the hand brake wire to anything.. and it plays as normal... what the..?

But the only problem is, that there's no power running to it when the car's turned off. Therefore.. the clock resets, and the CD/DVD starts from the begining..what the?

you've got your 12V+ and your acc wires mixed up... when you turn your car off, it kills the 12V+ line that should always be on, and uses the ACC line as battery backup, which is obviously off now...

take it out, swap em over and you should be fine...

Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
