Would like some advice from anyone, regarding the best way to get some good results from my R33.

It currently is 228rwhp. The engine is pretty standard at the moment.

I have an Apex GT intercooler

Cold air intake

Pod air filter

3" exhaust with Dual dump pipe

I am considering getting a Apexi PFC with H/C, an HKS exhaust cam pulley and probably a Apexi boost controller. Got pretty reasonable prices so far roughly $2100 for the lot. But after speaking to few people not sure if the Apexi is worth it. Been told the Autronic SM2 is much better but its alot more expensive. Also been told to upgrade my turbo. This option seems like the expensive option but probably get best results.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Probably want to spend about $2500.

Haven't read that much about wolf. Thought Apexi was one of the better ones.

Got quote back today;

APEXi Power FC - 80,850

APEXi Power FC Hand controller - 28,875

APEXi Boost controller - 30,723

Exhaust cam pulley - 12,123

Shipping - 3,300

TOTAL 155,871 yen or

AUD$2059.76

Seems pretty good value but not sure if its gonna give me much more KW?

Thanks

Chris

GTS 33 - what power goals are you looking for?

If you looking for around 200rwkw then the stock turbo should be OK if tuned right.

But if your looking at 250rwkw, then go a different turbo. But if your stuck on spending $2500 then keep the stock turbo.

I think your on the right track. Spend the $2100 on the mods you've listed (remembering that you'll need to fork out more cash to get the PFC tuned), and always put a bit of money aside for the unexpected.

Have fun :)

If eventually I do fork out for a bigger turbo is the Apexi PFC gonna beable to manage it OK?

Thanks

The PFC won't have any problems at all.

There are 700hp+ skylines in Japan using the PFC :)

Like I said, just leave a bit of money aside, once tuned you may find that you need to replace your fuel pump or something.

BTW: where are you getting the parts from? Seem like pretty good prices.

If you do end up getting a fuel reg, the Malpassi brand is very commonly used and are around $300 new I think. A mate of mine picked one up 2nd hand for $150. If you are looking at plug and play ECUs, have a look at the Microtech model for R33s as well as these are $1300 new and do not require the Airlow meter. As usual, allow for tuning.

go off what boostd has done. he got 216rwkw out of the stock turbs, and as soon as he upgrades that or if he does, he is guarnatied to reap the rewards of smart modding.

he has a lot of good gear from what i read on his thread.

stock turbs he ran 12.9.

rev210 has another example too, if you read his posts.

dont go spend big on stuff if you are not going to complement that mod with another.

e.g, no good getting a massive set of injectors, if you still running the stock fuel pump. 1 mod is always linked to another in most case, which makes it hard money wise to sort and plan it out.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
