SS8_Gohan
Ok, it is time... well, it's actually overdue. 11K's km extra put on the clock (since importing) and it's time for a nice big old service (checked the oils/filters bout 3K's km in and looked fine, sparkies and coilpacks done quite early after car landed) anywho... with some huge help from "khunjeng" i have been recommended the following... Engine Oil - Redline 10w40, if not... - Motul 300V series, if not... - Mobil 1 0w40 (lower if possible) Gearbox Oil - Redline Shockproof lightweight Diff Oil - Castrol Syntrax 75w90 (does series 1 R34 have a helical or viscous LSD?) Oil Filter - OEM Nissan - any other thoughts on this one? Fuel Filter - Paper filter? Air Filter - Paper filter? Oh, and i heard that Ryco make shite products, and to stay clear of them? Ok, question time... Mainly filters... - Can OEM Nissan oil filters be bought anywhere besides nissan? - What other oil filters do the job? - Air and fuel filters? Which ones for these? I don't have big power, got a full 3" exhaust on in the next week or so, but still, car will be lightly modded. How many litres do i need for... -engine? -gearbox? -diff? I'd love to go with the best stuff, but my goodness Redline is expensive!! Is is really worth the extra $? Where bouts could i pick up Motul oil? cheers! daniel Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/154950-first-big-service-heres-my-proposed-list-of-goodies/ Share on other sites

Use castrol equivalent Diff Oil - Castrol SAF-XA Oil Filter - Purolator PureOne (equivalent of z145a) Fuel Filter - std ryco does the job, no need to use anything else... Air Filter - Depends if you have a std airbox or pod...just replace element if its dirty or just vacuum the crud out the old one if its not too bad Oh, and no Ryco (thanks khunjeng) Ok, question time... Mainly filters... - Can OEM Nissan oil filters be bought anywhere besides nissan? err no, thats what oem stand for -origional equipment from manufacturer - What other oil filters do the job? - Air and fuel filters? Which ones for these? I don't have big power, got a full 3" exhaust on in the next week or so, but still, car will be lightly modded. K&N replacement panel for std box, or apexi pod? Just use ryco fuel filter... How many litres do i need for... -engine? 4.6 (with fresh oil filter) -gearbox? till it runs out of the fill hole on a flat surface -diff? same as gb ^ I'd love to go with the best stuff, but my goodness Redline is expensive!! Is is really worth the extra $? No Where bouts could i pick up Motul oil? Do a search, or ask in your local state forum Dont forget a coolant flush and change Edited February 5, 2007 by Bl4cK32 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/154950-first-big-service-heres-my-proposed-list-of-goodies/#findComment-2881701 Share on other sites
SS8_Gohan
ok, googled... found a lot of bad stuff bout ryco... basically people cutting them open and comparing to other brands. I'll prob just go genuine Nissan for a few extra bucks. $10-$15 i was finding at justjap.com for various filters. Motul is available at recpo and autobarn... which is strange because my closest autobarn doesn't have it. Oh well, at least i know some big places have it. I take it Castrol SAF-XA is different to Syntrax? Yes, have standard air box. Coolant... right... didn't think about that. Thanks hehe, now... is coolant, coolant? or is it like oils as well? Bl4cK32
nulon coolant or tectaloy seem to be the best, and dilute it to the recommended amount. People who make it stronger are kidding themselves thinking it will work better, when it doesnt. If u wanna be a nut with the service, change the thermostat as well. genuine nissan are much better (compare the spring to an aftermarket item) Ive never had trouble using genuine thermostats.. SS8_Gohan
too busy! must get around to this... anywho... I gave Nissan a call, do these prices sound ok? (these are OEM Nissan filters) - Oil: $16 - Fuel: $33 (are fuel filters generally more expensive?) - Air: $18 Would i be ok just to go down and pick all the filters in one hit? Is genuine Nissan stuff good enough? cheers, daniel Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/154950-first-big-service-heres-my-proposed-list-of-goodies/#findComment-2934307 Share on other sites
JVP
OEM fuel filters are always dearer. but they are a better product overall. stay with genuine. ive seen ryco, repco etc filters leaking etc.... the prices u got are good. pretty normal. what nissan dealer was it? SS8_Gohan
cool, that's good to hear. Wasn't that keen running around chasing 3 different brands I rang Brighton Nissan, nice and helpful over the phone. And they have the stuff in stock. The guy said they suit quite a few models, so shouldn't much drama with supply. (03) 9563 9977 i'd imagine prices would be much of a muchness, regardless of dealership. SS8_Gohan
right getting it down.. mobil 1 castrol syntrax OEM filters just gotta confirm gearbox oil. I was told to do an oil flush? Does this mean a specific product to flush out all the old oil build up? Or is it just using more Mobil 1 to do the flush? cheers, daniel Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/154950-first-big-service-heres-my-proposed-list-of-goodies/#findComment-2940471 Share on other sites

SS8_Gohan
i used www.whitepages.com.au Do a 'business' search, put in 'nissan' and choose Queensland. Find the nearest dealership, and give them a call. Will most likely have in stock. I'm going down tomorrow to pick up the filters, haven't got all the oils yet. Will be organising that tomorrow as well.
