Recommended Posts

**Anyone too far from Epping can also see the collection days for other areas here:

Hey guys,

if your house is anything like mine, you'll have 15 bottles of motor oil, 5 bottles of coolant, 10 bottles of brake fluid, couple of batteries.. etc etc all sitting in the garage/out the back waiting to be disposed of.

This Saturday the 10th February is the next FREE household chemical disposal ('collection') day for Whittlesea residents. There's one approx every 18 months for every council. You don't have to live within the Whittlesea shire to drop off your chemicals either.

Saturday 10th February

Council Works Depot

68-96 Houston St Epping

8am - 4pm

(basically it's directly behind Epping Police Station near cnr of Miller St - behind High St & Cooper)

Among the types of unwanted household chemicals accepted for safe disposal at the collection day are:

*Household chemicals such as aerosol cans, insect sprays, pest poisons, household cleaners, pharmaceuticals, mothballs and old smoke detectors

*Garden chemicals - fertilisers, fungicides, herbicides and insecticides

*Automotive chemicals - transmission fluids, batteries and battery acid, brake fluid, car wax solvent, fuels (such as petrol, diesel, kerosene) and oils (including motor and sump oils)

*Workshop chemicals - paint strippers, solvent-based glues, water and oil-based paints, paint thinner, acetone, turpentine, varnish and wood preservative.

Other unwanted household chemicals of products containing chemicals accepted on the collection day are artists’ paints and supplies, photographic chemicals, fibreglass resins (not mixed), fire extinguishers, gas cylinders, swimming pool chemicals and mercury batteries.

No single item should exceed 20L or 20kg. There is no limit on quantity but no commercial or farm use chemicals will be accepted.

Any further info can be found here: http://whittlesea.vic.gov.au/content/content.asp?cnid=2703

If you can't make it Saturday then you can dispose of motor oil, batteries, fluro tubes and paint any other time at:

Darebin Resource Recovery Centre

Kurnai Avenue Reservoir

Opening hours are: Mon-Sun 8am - 3.30pm

However, they don't take brake fluids, coolant etc and there's a very crappy gravel road leading to the disposal area so don't take a car with a nice, unmarked paintjob.

Cheers!
