Hi I have a quick question in relation to my Yellow Top battery I bought about 12 months ago.

I have a optima deep cycle 41 A/H 500CCA Yelltop battery, I belive its a D51.

I'm using the battery in my 1990 nissan skyline GTR. My problem is this : I was running a mono block amp (sony XM-D1000P5) and a simple two channel amp. The stereo was fine.

Recently the 2 channel amp broke down and I replaced with a 4channel amp. After doing this my stereo now chops / cuts out after 10 ~ 15 minutes of playing at loud volume....

What I mean by chops out is that the mono block amp and sub continue to run along with my head unit but the front and rear fill running off the 4 channel amp chops out (cuts out).

So I bought a 1 farard capacitor to try and fix this problem, but it still occurs. Then I also ran a new 4 guage earth cable in the boot direct to the 1 Farah capacitor and also to the negative side of the battery to try and remedy the problem, still happens.

THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS.... Also for infomation my mono block amp uses 10.5 ~ 16 Volts and the current drain at rated output 90A (at 2 ohms) and my new sony 4 channel amp (sony MSD46X) and the Current drain is (@ Rated Power - 4Ω): 31Amps. So my question is can the Optima yellow top battery handle my CAR amps or what else do you think the proplem can be....??

PS : Also does anyone know the output of a 1990 R32 GTR alternator?? see if may be a problem aswell?

dont think it has to do with alternator or not having a capacitor..i run 12 speakers in my car not including my 2 subs..i hav two monoblocks, one for each sub..and i just have a exedy heavy duty battery..nothing flash..

i had a similar problem to what your describing when i 1st started doing up my sound system..this could be one of two things..

1) over heating..the amp is over heating..and so going into protection..

2) amp is broken..i had an amp..dat worked..but..afta few mins of operations..turns off..

frm memory..mono blocks hav very good heatsinks..and can handle heaps for long periods of time..whereas 4 chan/2chan's cannot..

connect a mates amp or sumtin..and see if it doesnt..then its ur amp..get a new one..if it still happens..go get it chkd out at an car audio store.. unless sum1 else can provide you with some other info..

cheers

Thanks for that sugestion. The sony 4 channel amp is brand new and I already swapped it for a new one it it didn't correct the problem.... Hense this is why I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. The amp did get hot though and that was both amps....

What causes amps to get hot? I already run a 1 farad cap to assit any voltage peaks etc...

output transitors control the amount of current frm the pwr supply and get hot..these are usually connected to the heatsink..

what a mate of mine did was, connect a couple PC fans around the amp..they cost f all..and easy to wire up..

also i suggest, double check all the wiring..i mean everything...rca's frm headunit back..power, ground, rem..everything..

    • Hello, sorry for being late to join the discussion, but my clock just died on me.   Ive tried to look at Michaels digital clock repair.docx and it doesnt work maybe the file has expired.   Please let me know if you can re upload it or take some youtube videos to show us how to get the clock installed? thanks
    • I thought that might be the case, thats what I'll start saving for. Thanks for the info
    • Ps i found the below forum and it seems to be the same scenario Im dealing with. Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
