Hi everyone.

Well its at the stage now where my band no longer has a bass player. All of our other contacts are really tied up at the moment, and we're out of people to play bass!!

So, we are looking for a bass player.

We plan on doing 50% covers and 50% originals. Although lately we have just being doing covers. We've been doing a little bit of what I heard someone once call 'funk lounge' pretty laid back. And a little bit of pop too. We plan on doing gigs of any kind, but hopefully paid gigs, like parties, weddings resteraunts ect ect.

We're looking for someone who has some experience. You don't have to be shit hot, but you need to have a good idea of what your doing. We like to just jam a fair bit, so it would be really good if you were comfortable with improvisation. Mainly looking for someone with a sort of jazz, rock, blues background/influence, but its not essential either.

We jam weekly, in the watsonia/macleod/rosanna area.

Thats pretty much it. I don't know if there are many musos among us here, but if you know anyone - friends, family whoever that might be interested, just let them know for me ;) Feel free to call whenever.

Contact:

Rylan (me)

0431 709 747

Cheers

Wish I could help Rylan. No bass sucks!

I've played bass for about 2 years now but I've played drums for about 10 years. I used to play heaps of jazz/funk/latin/blues/rock etc as a drummer but these days I only really play rock at church both bass and drums. My reading skill is pretty bad on bass coz I never really listened to theory stuff. Do you do read music from standard charts or by ear?

Also I'm in Horsham for the next 2-3 months so I'm too far away.

Do you sing?

You've been a muso all this time and I never knew. lol.

I'm pretty much a 100% by ear player. Pretty typical really. Although I do/did read charts, I had to back in the jazz band days. But I can't read music.. at all.

Haha yeah I know! I'm keen for a jam one day when I can actually drive and I'm actually in melbourne. Pretty rare these days. I'm back in June-July though.

I'm trying to teach myself theory by going through the theory levels. I'm still on level 2. Hard to get motivated about notes on a page.

bass... meh, dunce guitar

"ah sir... i don't think i can cope with 6 strings"

"well here, have a bass, they only have 4"

;)

What sort of music do you play Rylan? as in, what covers?

What's the gear you've got?

I'm a semi-self taught geetah player, but you're a bit out of the ways...

You've obviously never hear a good bass player. My bass has 5!!! haha

Yeah russ, jam fo shiz. Bring your gear to the next deca hahah. I'll bring an inverter and we can motivate people to drive faster.....

But seriously give us a buzz when you want to. I can come down your way too ya know (your melbourne house).

Chinney, this band has started on doing the 'funk lounge' covers. Which are mainly bass and vocal orientated....... That was chosen by the singer of course. Jill Scott and Angie Stone Stuff. We also did "waiting on the world to change" *runs and hides*. But I'd like us to be versatile in what we play, and you want everyone in the band (who has differing tastes in music) to be happy too. So hopefully a huge range of stuff.

I play with a pretty simple rig, standard strat, through a 2x12 'hot rod deville/deluxe" amp... Sounds AWESOME. I love it to pieces and it really sings, usually with an Ibanez tube screamer and crybaby thrown in for good measure too... (voodoo chile ;)). I'm pretty blues influenced, with the likes of Stevie Ray, Hendrix having a big impact on my playing... Then theres the big rocky/poppy band stuff so chilli willies (9 days before the concert wooo), u2, acadaca, and a good chunk of Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Donvan Frankenreiter... thanks to John Butler and Jeff Lang I'm very slowly trying to get into the slide guitar thing.

Then of course theres that harmonica that sits in my center console... I try to practice but I'm just not dedicated. Still, it's very very amusing in peak hour traffic, and seeing other peoples reactions is quite funny too.

I know what you mean by the theory thing though Russ. It's definatly a pain in the a.. but everytime I go a little deeper into it really opens up my playing which is really good, especially when soloing.. I mean I can't read a note, but the theory definatly helps. Doing it is the problem, with uni and work and wasting your time on forums and the like.....

meh, Stevie and Mayer can't read music, good enough for me

but you're right, theory helps A LOT with improv. I just touched on modes barely, and that's where my lessons stopped. I know they would have helped heaps with Jazz improv, but at the moment, i'm stuck on blues improv. Much easier

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... HTH
    • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
