White Smoke Coming From Gear Stick Area...any Reasons?

Hey guys and gals,

Any ideas why on a longer drive, I noticed fine white smoke..not alot but consistant coming out of gear stick area of car into the cabin.....kinda keeps up for a while and later not noticable???

my GTR did that too.. only can see it in direct sunlight and after uh 40mins or more on the highway. also notice the tunnel carpet gets hot.. and the grease around the shifter is thinner after the drive due to heat.

im guessing heat and steam coming from the box arear thru the shifter..

first time i saw it scared me lol.

Just yesterday I noticed this exact some thing and it was happening today as well. Both days have been very hot. It may have been occuring before but I hadn't noticed it (bought my car about 6 weeks ago).

It's an R33 gts-4 non turbo.

It doesn't seem to have any smell and is only a small amount like the steam coming out of a kettle. My coolant isn't leaking, oil and brake fluid are fine.

Is it worth worrying about?

you guys might have a extension housing leak from your gearbox, the tailshaft could be flinging oil onto your hot exhaust and burning it

I have the same thing, but only after track punishment then cool down cruising at 100km/h. I assumed it may have been burnt off power steering fluid as i had a leaking hose. Only just fixed the hose so i dont know if i still have the problem or not.

Some guys on the uk gtr forum have had the same problem. For these guys it was caused by a split gaiter at the bottom of the gearstick.

I'm gonna take it to my mechanic and get him to check it out.
