I've just bought an Autech Axis M35 Stagea 2004 4WD with VQ25DET 2500cc turbo motor. (See my post in the Stagea sub-forum).

Currently on the wharf in Kobe.

I think this car was the only Skyline / Stagea fitted with this motor?

Anyone know where I can go to find out about chipping, modding, etc to produce a moderate power increase?

The only mod so far is a Fujitsubo 3" exhaust.

(New to forum so sorry mods if this is posted in the wrong place)

Which wharf? I might go down and take it for a 'test drive'... haha >_<

Yes the M35 Stagea was the only one that got the VQ25DET, and since 2002 has been played around with by a few guys like this: http://www.h4.dion.ne.jp/~lucino_s/m35_vq25det.html to varying degrees of success. The IMPUL Hi Power control unit http://www.impul.co.jp/products/HPCU.htm seems to be the ECU of choice for light tuning going by what I've seen in Japan, and as not many VQ-Ts are getting about, it's hard to find many examples of guys who do more than the usual exhaust/ECU setting/boost up/air cleaner combo of mods which usually net around 300 -350 at the wheels.

ARC do a front mount intercooler: http://www.arcinter.co.jp/arc/products/int...san/nissan.html but you could probably get a generic Ebay one and make that fit for half the cost.

Hell, theres even an Oil pan spacer http://minkara.carview.co.jp/userid/220510...8590/parts.aspx available if that kind of thing turns you on.

Actually this guy seems to have done a fair bit of work to his M35: http://minkara.carview.co.jp/userid/220510...rts.aspx?page=1 - just click through the links down where all the thumbnails are and see what he's done... 'custom' GT-RS install, full exhaust, front mount, HKS F-Con iS... couldn't find a power figure though... whould be def over 350ps @ 1.4bar.

Thanks Rezz - I couldn't find the VQ25DET listed in the Impul ECU product page, and I wonder how effective an ARC intercooler would be given the limited ariflow through the large front grille?

An ECu upgrade is the same a 'chipping' a car?

It's on the 31st line down on the pricelist.

Having never looked through an Axis grille I can't say for sure either, but having said that I'm not sure if the ARC 'cooler is centre mounted or off to the side, or even in the original postion... it's not a sportscar so frontal air flow was probably pretty low on the agenda with the Axis design.

Yeah basically the same, like a full ECU unit swap to a 'pre-programmed' factory style unit with slight tweaks for air cleaner and exhaust (maybe slightly higher boost) a la IMPUL. They're only really made for retaining 'factory style' drivability and emissions while giving a noticeable albeit small increase in power/torque. The guy using the HKS F-Con iS on his M35 has the adaptor harness for the VQ25DET, so thats an extra that you'll need if you want to go down that route.

I suppose you're either going to spend quite a bit getting all your parts from Japan, or having to trailblaze a bit using locally sourced stuff and the asssociated hassles of people saying 'I'm not touching it, I don't even know what it is'...

Thanks Rezz. I found the right part on the Impul site. At over $2k it would want to make a difference - are there any specs published for this unit?

Well the guy in the h4.dion.ne.jp link got a max output of 292.9hp on the dyno with the Impul CPU, tweaking it everytime he added a new part such as bigger FMIC and switching brands of mufflers. He had a peak torque figure of 51.1kg/m (!) on his second dyno run, but he says that was a freak occurence and must've had a problem with the readout or some other fault. At any rate, the Impul ECU isn't a full computer, so they're suited to light mods only.

This chart here: http://freeplanets.jp/~skyline/Sky_Power.htm gives a good idea of the power gains to be had from the Impul ECU when installed in R32 - 34 Skylines. The furtherest 4 columns to the right go from right to left: Manufacturers Data for Power, Manufacturers Data for Torque, Tuned data for Power, Tuned data for Torque. You can see in at the top (My R34) that the Impul ECU nets about 320hp @ wheels on average up from the manufacturers claim of 280. If you clink on the links down below you can see all the dyno charts.

Btw, the Impul ECU also carries a 2 year/50,000km warranty... that would explain the price a little. :domokun:

Sorry about digging up an old post:

@ Rezz, you seem to know a good bit about these engines - do you know is it possible to get cams, pistons, con-rods or even whole stroker-kits for these engines? Having serious difficulty in finding any information on them. I've a thread posted up here in an effort to find out some info:

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Vq...on-t198413.html

Cheers for any help in advance!

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
